Especially with t'internet allowing you to "acquire" new sounds faster than you can even listen to them.
I suggest just spending a bit of time listening to the music you love, maybe some stuff you've got but haven't really listened to much, maybe some stuff you didn't give a fair chance to... It's not a bad thing at all, really. Forcing new music upon yourself just for the sake of it being new is a bit sad really. And something exciting will probably then catch your eye when you're not even looking for it.
I stopped downloading about two years ago, for the reasons you list - the hunger to consume takes over from actual enjoyment - I've friends who literally download stuff all day and have opinions on music which they've probably digested on half-listens - great records which have fine subtlety and nuances - yet are dismissed at the drop of a hat when they were downloaded and flicked through on itunes...
However, I do find myself lacking in inspirational new music at present - for example everyone is raving about Fleet Foxes and yes, while there's no doubting it is good, it is hardly the revelation that seems to have been salivated over by every tom, dick & harry in music journo corner.
I'm not sure I can help you there - I'm in a "slow" phase at the moment myself. In fact, I have precisely 7 cds on my itunes from 2008...
3 of these are from artists who were already among my absolute faves and so I just had to have (ASMZ, Why?, Elf Power),
2 are local bands (a local scene comp and an EP by a band called Alba Nova, who are very Gossamer Albatross/Held By Hands-y and should be liked by the DiScerning consumer),
1 is Elbow's latest (which I was lent after not really ever listening to them before - I quite like it, on the first 2 listens, but it's hardly "cutting edge" in the way you seem to want...),
and the last is Earth. Which is nice, but again I've not listened to enough.
But all that said, you don't have to listen to contemporary music to find new sounds...
I usually just prefer to listen to artists who already have a few albums under their belt (I don't know why) but it's also a bit of a reaction to all this "new music" fetishism that goes on. Most of the bands on here are rubs and will be forgotten about in a year. I can't be bothered with that.
nah not really...
it must be a pretty rare thing... boredom is characterised genreally by the same old same old!!! Maybe you are getting old..... past it like.
It happens.

Couldn't agree more

Well,
