Earplugs

the MBV thread reminded me about it, but i've been intending to get some earplugs for a while. I seem to remember a few folk recommending these ones that lasted 6 months or so, but i can't recall the name?
- any ideas? Any other good shouts?

  • probably

    Elacin ER 20s

you can gettem for around £9 online.

  • I use Doc Pro Plugs

not expensive, comfortable, and have lasted me 2 years. They really work too, though I wish I got them a lot sooner

    • +1

I'd definitely recommend the Pro Plugs.

They're "frequency selective" and only really cut out stuff above a certain frequency somewhere in the midranges.

In practice, what this means is that you still hear the gig, and it's still really loud, but they cut out the bits that hurt eg. treble from the guitar, snare crack. If anything, I'd say they actually improve the overall sound of most gigs.

Mine were about £12, and you can buy them in most drum shops.

  • will earphones work?

  • Cheap ER 20

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Etymotic-Research-ER-20-Earplugs/dp/B000VJGO8C

They are best for equal noise attenuation across the audible frequency range.

I should know I work for a hearing charity.

    • ignore...

...fiddygent. he works for KFC in camden. i'm his line manager!

  • chances of me getting a good pair before saturday?

cant think of anywhere that will sell them in nottingham, as i think Sound Control shut down

    • audio relief do a next day delivery

or possibly even same day, should be less than £15 all in.

    • Nottingham Drum Centre???

I was there on Sat and thought I saw some there...

  • Thanks for this

I just bought me some... I hate wearing those shitty foam plugs - they RUIN the sound! ...So I'm now pretty much deaf in one ear, and after a gig last night i've got shooting pains in the other!!

How we suffer for our art.

    • I just got me some an all

I got mine from audio relief, £9.99 delivered

  • ER-20s

are the best ive used in terms of cutting out the most noise etc but I find them too fiddly for general gigging and seeing bands. Plus they stick out looking like youve got one of those comedy 'through-the-head' arrow hats.

Doc Pros are however really easy to use and are pretty effective. So i find i use them a lot more.

    • The ER20s I got are clear plastic

so you get less looks when in dark clubs and gigs and stuff. I haven't really found them fiddly at all, but they are good for cutting out the harsh sounds.

I had a pair of Doc Pros and lost them after one gig. That was my fault though, as I was on a drunken rampage :]

    • sounds like

you haven't shoved your er-20s in far enough. they shouldn't stick out that far.

  • I use Vaters

Have to wear them every night and they are pretty comfortable.

£25 or something so not too bad if you lose one

  • big ear little ear

anyone recommend somewhere to check out pro plugs in london?

They come in all sorts of sizes and i have nothing to compare my ear size too...
