Old Lard-Barnet sounded off again about Lucas' legacy in the Metro this morning.
He said ALL, the Star Wars were terrible - "...Star Wars has got no story, no proper characterisation and is badly defined...Im just giving my opinion, I just think its the right one.." Hmmm, discuss.
p.s. He also thinks The Exorcist is " the greatest film ever made."
I like Mark Kermode and
I hate Star Wars.
I don't like him and I don't
like Star Wars
^this
i don't like Mark Kermode anf
I don't like Star Wars.
The Exorcist is a stunning film.
Change your name to 'Markshaped' then.
I don't like him that much
I might style my hair like his though.
Nah! Style it like Princess Leia instead.
I like Kermode.
I really do. I used to hate him, but I quite like him now. But about Star Wars... he could not be more wrong.
He's wrong about The Exorcist.
He's basically right about Star Wars. Just because nerds like it it and it made a lot of money, doesn't make it a good film.
"no story"?
Alas, even 'The Hottie & The Nottie' has a story, it's just not a very good one. Star Wars is tremendous.
How can you be aware of Mark Kermode
but previously not that he really likes The Exorcist? It's pretty much the only thing most people know about him!
I did already know he wants to marry The Exorcist.
Lots of people dont though.
EXPLODING HELICOPTER QUOTIENT!!!!
I don't know who Kermode is
but I reckon Chewbacca could probably have him in a fight.
I think Kermode would win
on account of not being fictional.
And a drinking contenst.
he looks a bit like one of the T-Birds from Grease.

Haha
'Mark Lamarr called, he wants his hair back'
I like Kermode
and like Star Wars..
kermode is an idiot
theres nothing worse than people who say controversial things just to get a bit of attention
where's the controversy?
He just said he didn't like Star Wars
thats controversial
EVERYONE LIKES STAR WARS!
^what she says^
No he didn't. He claimed it had no story
and no characterisation.
I don't have an issue with people not liking it but it's basically a rip off of Hidden Fortress and I bet Kermode would like the sweat off that film's balls in a heartbeat.
He's welcome not to like it, just stick to obviously reasonable things such as mostly terrible acting and hokey dialogue.
I like
Jar Jar Binks.
i like Kermode
he has opinions and he sticks to them, he's not a critic who "just slags everything off for the sake of it", he's entitled to hate star wars
Of course he's entitled to his opinion,
but he's so bloody self-righteous and humourless about it I want to bite his greasy little head off and shit down his neck.
well i don't find him to be obnoxious
Kermode later went on to say instead of Star Wars
everyone should go and watch the new Mexican film Guerras de Las Galaxias in which a poor boy from a shanty town discovers he is the son of the evilest man in universe and does battle in space, in a metaphor about Iraq. Kermode commented "The anti-capitalist agenda it sets up, along with rational characterisation just makes this vital, really really vital. But for the love of god don't go and see it otherwise I'll have to write a piece in a year about how I hate it."
^DiS user complaining about unpopulist snobbery
You're talking to a man who has
When You Were Young by The Killers at the top of his last FM chart, big ears
He's totally right, though.
I like Kermode but as I said up there, I bet he loves Hidden Fortress and probably thinks Sergio Leone's stuff is fucking amazing.
If Star Wars had been a cult classic he wouldn't have anything to say against it.
How can anyone who thinks that the Excorcist is a grwat film be trusted to have an accurate opinion.
Mind you, he was right about Pirates of the Carribean.
;-)
sometimes he's right
i happen to think he's wrong about the exorcist, right about star wars.
still think he's kind of a dick though.
i went to this q&a with werner herzog at the curzon the other month, and kermode was the host/interviewer. me and my friend had this plan to find and meet herzog afterwards, because he's a big hero. the plan failed miserably, he was incredibly discreet and disappeared. kermode, though, had ducked out in order to position himself in the bar, and was sitting at the table facing the screen exit doors, head cocked to one side, looking 'thoughtful' and acting shocked and surprised when people came and said hello, as if that hadn't been his whole plan all along. it was pretty funny. maybe you had to be there...
Mark Kermode
Plays in a skiffle band, he therefore gets my respect.
I don't think I know who Mark Kermode is
but I think Star Wars is pretty dull, episodes 1 through 6. Not nearly enough Ewok action for my liking
He sais there's no story line
What is he talking about? It's the greatest storyline ever.
In that case, it needs less storyline
and much, much more Ewok
You sound like just like my girlfriend Daniel.
Wow, she even has the same name as me!
massive LOL
Whoops! - I meant Danielle.
:-/
I don't care whether he like Star Wars or not
his debasing of Sex and the City was immensely funny
LINK!
Seeing as it's your birthday
I tried, there is no video clip on the internet of his slating of Sex and the City. It's bullshit, the producers of that film must have given the BBC a quite payoff to censor the clip. It's not even on the Culture Show page for fucksakes!
What? Ewoks are lame.
They're just a slightly less evolved Teddy Ruxpin.
They aren't lame
They just have little legs
GOOD Teddy Ruxpin reference.
I had a teddy ruxpin, he was the best/my best friend.
I saw one of the Star Wars films once.
Not really my thing. So I agree with Mr Kermode.
Which one?
I genuinely don't know.
I get confused between what I've seen in real life and what I've seen on Channel 4 clip shows. I think I've seen the one with the Ewoks in it, whichever one that is.
star wars is real life?
teach me
The way some people go on
you'd think it was sometimes.
Thats the shit one,
thats not as shit as the one with Jar Jar Binks in it.
I think he's only seen Afam and Joe
ADAM
I've never watched Adam & Joe
I've listened to them on the radio though.
Buy the Adam & Joe show
Dvd, it was one of the best shows on when I was a kid.
^
"Im gonna spend all my BB prize money on having Darth-Maul sewn back together!" XD
"It says 25% extra free...I'm only having the free bit"
I'm not sure I'd get half of it.
They talk about films a lot on the radio. I don't really know much about films.
They have in-depth discussions
about Die Hard With Avengeance and Broken Arrow!
Its more about general pop culture. I think you'd get it. You don't come off as that much of a spazz
Mark Kemode has the eyes of a rapist
he once said
harmony korine was the worst film director of all time.
i think this is why i hate him.
I listen to his reviews every week
I think he's one of very few critics worth listening to, and I agree to an extent on Star Wars. The whole phenomenon surrounding it has been very well orchestrated but the films themselves are not masterpieces, although I don't think they're useless.
He's a decent film critic at times
but what I mainly think of when he's mentioned is a clip Charlie Brooker showed on his TV show of Kermode on Newsnight Review sounding off rather pompously about video games (much to Brooker's contempt). I think it was Kermode anyway
Anyway the first three Star Wars films are still good fun, not as good as say the Indiana Jones trilogy but still good. I think one problem is they now get blamed a lot for the 'wham-bam blockbuster' nature of today's movie business. And Kermode can state his opinion, he does tend to come off as rather smug about it though.
I could quite happily never see any star wars film ever again
but I still think he is talking rubbish, the first three contain literally hundreds of iconic and sometimes even poignant moments. If he doesn't like them he doesn't really doesn't understand films or the concept of entertainment.
And you ain't seen many films...
