When i'm performing a song i really love then i sometimes find it hard not to break down in tears. But is it totally conceited, or is it just totally authentic? You're supposed to be expressing emotion, right? And what's more expressive than histrionic blubbing?
p.s. no smarmy comments about how my musical performance makes you cry etc.

Yes
And it got to the point where I thought I was actually going to break down onstage. It was during our 'debut performance' of our 20 minute song, and it had taken so much time and effort to complete, and then to suddenly realise onstage what we'd achieved was a bit too much for me. It was an amazing moment.
maybe we're just wimps
Maybe we just feel more than others
Hey! Weren't you on the My Chemical Romance march?!
maybe
i go on a lot of marches
Yeah
I spent weeks writing and recording a song, i was just so proud when we played it live for the first time a few tears slipped.]
Theres nothing wrong with that.
good name
your songs must be so beautiful.
Have you played live much yet? Maybe you should print a warning on your flyers relating to how people may simply weep when they hear how awesome your music is.
technically
all of my crying experiences have happened when i'm playing other people's music. I'm talking more about the performance aspect than anything else
i havent cried myself
but i felt way cool when two girls cried watching one of our shows
thats actually probably been like the highlight of anything ive ever done, i came off stage and they were like, 'we cried'
neither of them were my mum either lol
i cried during
Rock Band. does that count?
This is possibly the lamest thing ever
^
Hesitantly agreeing.
i iz well gay lol
honestly....
this thread has made my saturday... the funniest thing i have ever heard, i presume this is tongue in cheek? if not then.... ....
(nearly as funny as the guy the These New Puritans claiming he likes settling down for a sleep during their sets, what. a. dick.)
i'm overexaggerating, obviously
i don't actually start wailing hysterically and beating my chest, but i have been known to well up a bit. And maybe it's just because i love the song i'm performing in its original form
But the point remains for people singing their own material - if you're baring your soul with a song that is inseparable from the emotional experiences that inspired it, then what's wrong with a little bit of emotion coming through? Are you just supposed to keep a bit of distance to "maintain the professionalism"?
keep the distance
or its just a bit emo innit, reminds me of seeing a band who before they played a song went "well, this one is really difficult for us to play, coz, you know..." *cringe*
Lord
I hope somebody said "Don't bloody play it then!" or similar.
yeah
but only in the privacy of my own home and mainly because I play for tension relief when in a bad mood anyway
never
when i play gigs i feel like im in a sort of dream state. I feel very detached from what i'm doing, like someone else is controlling my body.
Then again i've never written emo music so i wouldn't feel the need to cry ;)
^ this
vvery much so
Sort of
I once tried to do a sort of leaping twirl with my guitar. I hit myself in the balls. A tear was shed.
I did an acoustic set once and
I cired and couldn't sing. It was all very emorotic
No I tend to write angry songs
or emotionally blank ones. Neither make me cry but my 'seagull song' does make me froth at the mouth and go red in the face when I sing it.
My seagull song
makes me divebomb grannies for chips.
I'm nicking this line
it's far better than any of the original lyrics.
how
completely disgusting.
douchely doucherton
which ones make you cry?
man
you have some balls to start this thread,
it made me laugh a lot.
It made me cry.
no
but i hear from a reliable source that dave grohl and his cronies were blubbing last night after their massive wembley performance with all the fireworks etc. i probably would be too.
Yeh
Headlining wembley is probably quite an overwhelming experience... writing songs and crying at them means you are a total twat.
i'd like to hear
from one of the Her Name is Calla guys, i bet they weeped a bit the first time they nailed 'Condor'
I have not
doesn't often get past the self-satisfied 'this is rocking' face around here. The one with the pouting/head nodding. Tender ballads are few and far between.
Are you produced by Ross Robinson?
Is there any chance
that your just really gay?
