Who are the best non-famous band you've never heard mentioned on either DiS or the forums?

Without JAGging if possible?

I'm not going to immediately answer this myself 'cos most unknown bands I've seen and liked I've then offered gigs to, and then plugged on DiS and thus making them invalid for this thread. I might think of someone later though.

So, anyone else?

Laddio Bolocko

I mentioned them once but nobody responded.

no wonder,

with a name like that
:p

frustrating though

as I know some people off here would totally bum them if only they knew how good they were.

I've only heard Goat Lips

that a mate put on a compilation recently. However, it's amazing and I plan to investigate further!

Read wikipedia description

Threw up in my mouth.

Interesting.

I like Dazzling Killmen, I may give them a listen.

Darren Hanlon

He's been mentioned on the forums, but only by me. Does that count? Everyone should have a listen to his beautiful wonderful songs.

linkage...

Do yourself a favour!

Really quite good.

Shit

?

n.

"Something considered disgusting, of poor quality, foolish, or otherwise totally unacceptable."

Oh I see

...your ears aren't working. Either that or you have a different opinion to me.

Dealership

They're great! I can't even remember how I first heard about them (onionavclub about 7 years ago I think) but they're songs are fantastic, particularly their debut EP.

http://dealerkids.com/

If you haven't heard the song You're Dumb then I recommend you listen right away.

http://dealerkids.com/_mp3/Dealership_(You%27re_Dumb).mp3

This is no jagging, that's just one of my favourite songs of all time.

Alright

Not really my thing. A bit twee.

Agree with the twee comment

Perhaps moreso on this song than most. I still think they're a really good example of the genre though.

This one's a great one, if only for the fact that the opening line is "You and I have to get out of Steven's way", what with me being Steven and all:

Umm... Cats and Cats and Cats?

For some reason, I only got round to checking them out the other day, but I thought they were brilliant.

Oh

I completely misread the thread title. I lose :(

Ah, I worked out after I'd posted that.

To be fair the title is open to misinterpretation...

I played with these

at the water rats not so long ago, with tellison. cats x3 are reeeeally good.

^They always get mentioned?

Ad even posts on here.

Silent Alliance

this thread also applied to mumford and sons until today.
i've never seen pants yell! get a mention either actually

The Snake The Cross The Crown

I've never once heard them mentioned on here, but they're such a brilliant band.

Dog Fashion Disco

but i always advise people to pick up Anarchists Of Good Taste for pittance on amazon because it's AMAAAAZING

^I <3 this band..

..and especially this album. It's reviewed on this site actually if anyone's interested.

Medulla forgot to mention that it's a mix between Mike Patton, old school S.O.A.D and a night out at the circus.

^ DFD are great

GREAT

Holly Miranda

www.myspace.com/hollymirandahollymiranda

Really, I implore all of you to check her out. The cover of Elliott Smith's 'Between the Bars' she does with Scott Matthew (not Scott Matthews) is absolutely stunning.

Also, Josh Goldberg

King of lo-fi, punky, wrestling-obsessed garage rock. Whole album is available for free from his MySpace: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=87207485&blogID=353329269

Hyperbubble

They're on the Filthy Little Angels label and they're this awesome synth-pop duo.

All I know is

They did a slightly mental cover of Tonight We Fly and I rather enjoyed it.

didnt like it

she's got an unusual voice but that not great.

Didnt like scott's bit either - over the top.

madeleine peyroux beats all with covers of that song.

Well, if i mention them

they will have been mentioned, and so.....

it's like schrodinger's cat.

open the box, open the box.

anyway

Deer Tick

a great band not that famous but it is well known enoth 2 be mentioned here it just hasent

well im new

,..............Damn

Clearlake

Bizarrely overlooked, one of Britain's finest indie bands (on a par with Elbow and Doves at the very least). A band who specialise in making the mundane magical.

'Don't Let the Cold In' - one of the most powerful songs about not wanting to wake up you'll ever hear. The lyrics are devastating, and the dischordant guitars in the bridge that signify the jarring, alien sound an alarm clock is to your ears in the morning is a brilliant touch.

Clearlake have been mentioned

I've posted about them several times, and although good they are really not as good as Elbow.

colditz glider

do an awesome line in mathy jaggy post-rock stuff that doesn't outstay it's welcome. Never seen them mentioned here. For fans of battles, youthmovies, tortoise ect.

http://www.myspace.com/colditzglider

In a similar vein

We Are Knives from Belfast - www.myspace.com/theweareknivestrio

Some other great Irish bands (excluding And So I Watch You From Afar who have had some attention) -

Adebisi Shank (instrumental math-punk in a Space Invaders context) - www.myspace.com/adebisishank

BATS (shouty punk, redolent of Blood Brothers and XBXRX) - www.myspace.com/leatherbeatsfeather

Giveamanakick (grimy alt rock - Jesus Lizard, mclusky etc) - www.myspace.com/giveamanakick

Simon Drinkwater

He's a chap local to Falmouth, saw him for the first time last week supporting Julia Kent, and he was incredible. Wish I'd been able to afford the EP, but listen at www.myspace.com/minkwater1

How famous is famous?

I never / rarely hear any love for Throwiing Muses on here which baffles me.

ok seing as my first one was wrong...

Locust Cloud (3 pice folk band)
Josh Bowker (funky Psychedellic folk)

Timesbold

JAGA JAZZIST

i reckon there are quite a few but they get my vote. bloody amazing band

<3

Jaga jazzist are ace

good call

a band called

twin crystals...think they are from canada. very fun and weird.

also high places. perhaps a little more well known, but very good indeed

actually upon further listening,

high places are absolutely fantastic

www.myspace.com/hellohighplaces

for fans of: animal collective, deerhunter, no age, folky, ambient stuff

Pretentious

I don't know

Unhappy childhoods?

arg

im gonna book mark this page so many good bands

these monsters

They get mentioned, but not enough in my opinion.

Mono In VCF

Awesome band. Kind of a dreamy sixties crossed with eighties kitchen sink film noir style psychedelic pop.

Released one of my favourite albums of last year.

http://www.myspace.com/monoinvcf

and

http://www.monoinvcf.com/

woah

these guys are brill.

Yeah, they're alright

A little dull.

Yeah nobody ever mentions that band that Paul Hawkins fronts

and it is making me question the collective wisdom of this forum

ftw

There's no hidden agenda here!

I get mentioned about as much as I deserve. And occasionally I'm not even the one mentioning me ;)

Untitled 1961

I'm pretty sure there are a great number of people on here that would love them with their massive crunchy funny time sigs and epic song structures...

Also:

Notorious Hi-Fi Killers (a bit Part Chimp, a bit Kyuss, a bit 13th Floor Elevators)

The Bridport Dagger (folky, rockabilly, yelping and cupbaords - should really be on Stolen, but they're not yet.)

The Late Greats

Charlie and the Ketamen

Crane Brothers

I saw The Late Greats supporting Born Ruffians

and they were fucking awful.

are

they a Wilco tribute band??

.

I have mentioned Lady and the Lost Boys on here a number of times.

Someone else made a thread about them and that got no replies as well.

www.myspace.com/ladyandthelostboys

Sad Shields

make me hott.

Ross Clark

Although i did actually just mention him on another thread about 5 minutes ago, but its pretty much the first time i've seen his name here i think.

http://www.myspace.com/electricpolyester

Larsen B

Marilyn rules over all the singles this year so far!

http://www.myspace.com/wearelarsenb

^This

Larsen B are ace.

Nobody on here has mentioned

Abram Wilson

that's my band

lol

you cryptic b*st*ard

I found you. I swear I haven't been looking this whole time, I was doing some work.

so it's not just a clever name then?

We Are Standard....

from the basque country, Spain! Saw them at SxSW and they were the standouts for me!

I don't think I've ever seen any real love for

Teenage Cool Kids, The John Spinnaker Project (who've split anyway)or To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie.

Which is strange as they've all released great things in the last year or so.

Minnaars

sometimes I laugh at my own jokes

team brick?

edward j hicks?
revenge of shinobi?

My favourite new band for the past year or so:

Revere - www.myspace.com/reverelondon

Incredible live band, check them out :-)

Renee Heartfelt.

I've mentioned them a few times, they're massively emo. Split up now. 1 of them is in Memorial who I really like.

www.myspace.com/reneeheartfelt

www.myspace.com/memorialband

oh my

this is good. Thanks.

Tompaulin? (although sadly split)

i guess they put out a couple of records and did a Peel session. (Does that mean they were famous?)

Also The Tenderfoot, who are overlooked in that whole closed-shop Brighton scene.
