Biffy Clyro: Thrash Hits get exclusive listen to new material

biffy clyro

DrownedinSound sister site Thrash Hits spent this afternoon (4 Jun) in the company of new music from Scottish alt-rock combo Biffy Clyro, destined, perhaps, for a new album in early 2009. Impressed? That shit's exclusive.

Of the ten rough demos to arrive so far, only one is complete – ‘Mountains’ is “3min 19sec of slightly angular, stadium-filling riff rock with a killer refrain of, ‘I am the mountain / I am the sea/ You can’t take that away from me,” apparently, and is guaranteed to “stick in your head after the very first listen.”

Mountains’ will be released as a single on the 25th of August and is available to pre-order from Amazon. A compilation of the singles released through former label Beggars Banquet will arrive on the 7th of July (details).

As for the new album? Read more at Thrash Hits, here.

  • i heard mountains last week

...that makes me cooler that DIS right?

    • Too cool...

      in fact, even for school!

      • first single in august..

but the albums not out till 2009?

that seems like a strangely big gap.

        • I think it might be a reconciliatory offer

to the old fans, y'know, after embarassing us all with Folding Stars, Machines, half of Puzzle and EVERY video they did for it.

That it's only as heavy as semi-mental is concerning though.

        • there's evidence of them being interesting again...

          in the final 3 seconds

  • Best guess it's going to be a

'Two More Years'-style thing and then just be sandwhiched on a 'Special Edition' or Puzzle with some live tracks. Having put a foot wrong in my eyes, mind x

    • drown in a natural light

hmmm. what a strong lyrics. must have taken a while to think them up! i agree with amputee-porn (great name by the way!). they need to make up to the early fans. but now their big, surely they won't? vertigo of bliss is still the dogs bolox though.

      • I'm not against Puzzle

but would love to see the next album be even wierder than anything they've ever done. I mean they're pretty big now. be interesting to see how the people who got into them through puzzle would react.

Like i say, Puzzle is a good album, but i think the songs sound better live than on record.
