What's new/how was your week/what's exciting you next wk?

I don't have any special contributions but thought this would be a nice Sunday night thread and I'm nosy so yeah, spill all.

The only thing I have to particularly look forward to is seeing my sister. At Sex In The City *shudder*!

  • I have tickets to both Radiohead nights in Dublin

    I'm pretty excited about that

    • Massive win!

      Who's supporting?

      • Bat for Lashes

I haven't heard of her, but there's an article over

        -------------------------> there!

        • Oh,

last week was pretty boring. Meh

          • Bat for Lashes is gorgeous.

            Really really gorgeous.

  • I bought new sunglasses today! :-D

I had an epiphany about my work crush and decided it would never happen :'(

I paid a shockingly large visa bill :S

I worked the bank holiday and got about 10 hours of overtime.

I watched five dvds- I may have no social life but I'm cultured.

    • hehhe yay

I have no social life but am cultured too heheh

    • Which dvds?

      Anything you'd highly recommend?

      • You may have seen them already, but they were:

Old Boy- very nice and not as violent as I'd been led to believe.

In The Mood For Love- bit unsure on that one as I never thought it picked up at all.

Princess Mononoke- good if you're into anime.

The Breakfast Club- so cute! I've been meaning to watch it for awhile and I didn't feel it had aged much.

The Last Kiss- skip this one. I bought it because it was in the £3 sale at Fopp and I liked Garden State, but this was not one iota as decent.

        Next to watch: Half Nelson.

        • Oldboy

          "nice"?

You're crazy! It's excellent but it's pretty sick. If you liked that, you should definitely get Sympathy For Mr Vengeance and Sympathy for Ms Vengeance by the same director. They're equally as brilliant, although slow moving to start. Doesn't matter which order you watch because they're not part of a trilogy.

          • Perhaps nice was the wrong term to use

There's a Lady Vengeance out now too that's I've heard is well done- I may borrow it from the resident film critic at work.

            • Lady Vengeance is what I meant

              - sorry, I was too lazy to look the titles up.

        • is Half Nelson the one with the...

Broken Social Scene soundtrack scor thingy?

  • Tomorrow.....

is my first day ar my new job.

    Aces.

    • Oooh

      - did you get the one you linked us to the site of the other week?

      • ....

yes. ihave had to sit around for the past week, waiting for it to start, just buzzing for it to start soon.

I\ve had enough Jeremy Kyle haha

  • Mainly

work, doing something interesting tomorow afternoon, and also heading down to alton towers on friday...

    • oh i might have

      some stand-up tomorow night aswell

      • ooo

do you perform stand-up? Is it all about squirels?

        • I havent

performed yet, still trying to work out which angle i want to take, the shiw i m going to tomorow is one i hope to do my first gig at in a month....I do have some squirrel material i could use, it is quite good...when i say good i mean mad.

          • aww brilliant

good luck man it seem like a tough game... but you consitently make me laugh on here.

            • Thanks Buddy

              ...

              • no problem

I flirted with the idea of doin some comedy stuff a while back but kinda couldnt get going with it. I have a mate who is tryin his hand at it and is pretty funny, he is way more confident than me so I might try writing some stuff for him or somat some time hehe.

                • Confidence plays a huge

part, if i was as confident about things as i m now i would have done it years ago, just almost got over my hang ups. writing is good man..

                  • indeed its a big part

I keep making scribblings though just incase something pops up. I kinda got a bout of depresion that knocked me for six which wasn't the best for comedy stylings. I'm thinking some kind of podcast might work a treat to start off with as its less intimerdating, a mate and I haven'y got round to doin that yet though... ah well hehe

                    • Yeah i

have had a couple of bouts of the ol'De-P, I had written a quite self-defeatist routine that was pretty much based on those times and used examples from when i had it which i thought worked really well, but i didnt have the confidence to do it then. I cant really do it now though as my "normal" mind set has come back and i dont think i could make it convincing...Now it is just off-the cuff nonsense....

I have toyed with the idea of a podcast or radio show with my mate, but he will never do it, and i think i need some one/ a group of people to work off to do something like that.

                      • hahah ol'De-P

thats the hip-hop end of the depresion spectrum aint it bummer....

I love off the cuff nonsense it cant be beat really.

The only way I could podcastis with my mate who I vibe off big style and we always seem to be busey or miss each other cos we live far apart nowadays. So its a toughy.

    • I love Alton Towers.

The more frightening, the better. I'm envious!

      • I have never

been, but i love roller coasters so really looking forward to it.

        • I'm envious too!

Alton Towers is always a great day out!

  • next week =

exam tomorrow, lots of doing sod all/ revising then seeing why? on friday which i am looking forward to lots!

    • I keep hearing about Why?

but am too god darn lazy to check them out. Description pls?

      • a hip hop/ indie hybrid

with melodic, interesting vocals, often dark lyrics, and a fair smattering of jangly guitar riffs... my description really isn't doing much justice though; there're a few tracks up for free download on lastfm

  • last week

    was pretty satisfying.

this week brings.. not much. a lot of stuffing of CDs into jiffy bags :D

  • hmmmm

whats new.... some socks came out of the wash....

How was my week... pretty boaring to be honest, as I have no cash and not much going for me right now.

Whats exciting me next week.... I get to see my sister tomorow and its not at sex and the city yay! :) ummm my car goes in for a service and also might get its window fixed as some scaly fucks went and broke into it and stole nothing a month ago... ohhh maybe I aint lookin forward to the bill...eeeeck

    Thanx for askin :)

    • :)

It's not really my bag either but my sister likes her chick flicks, and I don't get to see her often on her own.

She's thrown about £400 of free stuff my way in the last month, so who am I to argue about one 90 minute film?!

      • hehe

small price to pay then hay...

        have fun

        • Quite.

Apparently the actresses all loathe each other these days - I'll focus on trying to spot the signs of that in the film!

          • good work

and get some pick'n'mix even if its just to throw at your sis to annoy her a little bit... I love annoyin my sis.

  • busy week!

exams mon and weds, work on wednesday, Edinburgh on thursday through to friday, then my sisters coming to see Stephen Malkmus on Saturday and then we're going out to Smile. Ohhh and bbq on Sunday.
In summary: 1st half of the week is really lame, but the 2nd half more than makes up for it

    • Ah, Edinburgh.

One day I will see you again. *sigh*

  • nothing going on next week because i've got work

but i have a mix cd coming from someone! well two people! and i'm very excited about one in particular

i have three new pairs of shoes that i haven't worn yet - polka dot ballet shoes, gold ballet shoes, and some electric blue..ballet shoes

i get some monies back from my old flat hopefully :)

i am finally going to audition at the world's scariest writer's group! okay, north london's scariest one

    • You materialistic wench! [jealous]

But do tell more about the writer's group... ?

      • i've been putting it off for ages

but the group basically auditions you twice and decides whether you are good enough to stay. Scary :(

a friend of mine (who is a full-time novelist, like) went there to test-run parts of her second novel and some of them were a bit arsey. Not sure how friendly everyone will be, but I'll see how it goes.

I'm fully expecting it to be like Britain's Got Talent, or something hideous

The shoes! Ha ha, I accidentally threw out all my shoes when I moved apart from the ratty pair of converse I was wearing! I only realised on Friday morning because I had nothing to match my dress that evening :( So, yeah, it was necessary

I reckon the Sex in the City film won't be so bad!

        • Good luck.

Sounds pretty daunting. You're braver than I am.

I think it's going to be hideous, besides looking at the nice shoes and the obvious. I may steal someone's stress balls for those "so I got to thinking" scenes, when I'll just want to launch a three inch Blahnik directly into SJP's eyeballs.

          • not at all brave :(

I'm scared to death. I almost have a cry after I show someone my work to pre-empt negative responses

Yeah, those 'so I got to thinking' scenes would grate on me...'so I got to thinking Mr.Big might not be the big one...' aaarggghhh. I think I'll probably go and see it with a friend and then we can pretend to be really appalled by it afterwards.

            • i mean, not cry in front of them

              !

              That would be mental.

        • Good luck!

With the writers group mainly but also with SATC and the mix CD! :)

          • awwww

            thanks you and Mirri.

i hope the person who gets the mixcd likes it:) that would really make my day, punk!

            xxx

  • This week has been a bit lame!

Next week is going to be a hard one at work but I'm looking forward to band stuff, pizza and laughs with Jordan and the arrival of a mixCD!

Next weekend I'm doing Go Ape for my best friend's birthday, which I hope will be fun despite it looking like a team-building exercise for sales teams.

    • What is Go Ape?

And you have a mix CD coming? Quelle coincidence!

      • Yeah, that's an odd coincidence!

        http://www.goape.co.uk/
"Go Ape is an award-winning high wire forest adventure course of rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet up in the trees"

        • ah ive done this a few times

          its really quite good fun!

        • there is one near me

Dalby Forest... I have been tempted to do it at some point.

        • i'm enjoying the 'watch people go ape! section'

they should really show people's faces though rather than doing a POV thing. that would make me laugh!

          • I'll try and film myself

with my phone and upload it! :)

    • Go Ape

is that the dangle around in trees shizzle with harnasses and climbing stiff and massive wack off ziplines in forests?

    • Jordan_229?

      :D

      • _2

        Totes!

        • Whoop!

Give him a hug from me. But don't let him touch your bum.

          • Will do!

but it's my bum and if he wants to touch then I might let him! :)

  • I start exams next week D:

Completely unprepared, I reckon I can blag it. Only need 40%, the true attitude of a first year.

  • I am currently spending my evening packing up my life.

Unsurprisingly I don't have to much to pack. Pretty much a suitcase, rucksack and laptop bag and that's me. Sufjan Stevens is lovely packing music.

My week was good. I didn't do much apart from go to the pub but that was enjoyable. It's nice to not have anything to do.

Next week is going to be jam packed with job hunting tasks and maybe some barbecues thrown in between episode of pub. It will be strange being home but lovely all the same.

Find out the class of my degree by the end of next week! *shudder*

    • Also:

I've decided I'm going overseas next summer.

First stop is Brisbane, then on to Tokyo and maybe some North American action thrown in for good measure!

    • Boooooooooo :(

      • Booooooo!

        To you too!

I'm like a grown up or something now.

  • I bought

    a new phone.
    It looks futuristic.
    http://tinyurl.com/67ptwy

    • Wow.

How much did that set you back? I want!

      • 44.90€

        It has a touchpad:)

  • i FINISHED my MSc coursework!!

all 15'000 submitted this evening. i am fucking THRILLED to be done with it. Now i shall spend the next month quaffing fine beverages in (hopefully) sunshine, and not using a single braincell for a good long...few weeks. And then i have to write my thesis... :(

    <insert blissful denial here>

    • 15'000 words*

      (not individual essays, fuck me)

    • nice one bsoucek

      you have been workin hard.

      • :D

YAY!!! i don't know what to do with myself though. i'm not used to having freee time. i spent my afternoon cleaning my flat because i was befuddled by the concept of not working!

I'm going out and drinking lots of gin tomorrow to celebrate though. wooooop

        how was your weekend?

        • ive done nothing since i finsihed my exams

i just sit about all day and read and stuff. its great!

        • I love the word 'befuddled' if freakin rocks

indeed you go enjoy the gin and be merry.

My weekend has been pretty boaring and lame really not done a single thing as I'm skint :(

          • i can't wait to do nothing though!!

            doing nothing will be great!

although i can imagine the novelty wearing off... :( and the skintness doesnt help....

hopefully you will have a more exciting week ahead :)

            • thanx :)

I will surtainly give it a go... I plan on meeting my sis and listening to lots of music... while probily looking for work or other constructive things hehe.... less gin and more coffee for me I think mind.

              • yeah i'm gonna look for a job to tide me over for the summer...

so the hunt begins this week... :) Oh and i'll be catching up with my brother this week too! we're going to Venn festival at the weekend so that'll be aces...

                • that sounds brilliant

wher is Venn Fest... I'm guessing some where in mainland europe hehe.

            • you well deserve the break after

              all them words mind

  • Maths and Computing exams.

    YAY.

  • Last week - Crap

outlook for next week - crap

  • Absolutely nothing

I should probably hand my notice in and tell my landlord I'm leaving though!

    • nahhh

      everyone likes surprises, surely?

  • I'm also seeing my sister

she's coming over for the weekend and it will be her first time in cardiff, should be good.

  • I've had a good week.

I went to visit my friend at uni in Cornwall, came home via Devon and took some nice pictures, went out and got drunk with my dad and did my first proper shift at my new job.
Oh and I cycled about 45 miles today and now i'm tired. Pretty eventful week I'd say.

    :)

    • I have a week of hell ahead:

7 day bitch-face working week with TWO 12 hour shifts
      Mudderfuggin NHS

**consoles one's self with the prospect of a decent pension**

  • Pretty lazy really.

Still had a couple of hundred quid left from my week-in-hand at my last job so i didn't really bother with the job-hunting this week, slept in a lot, sat in the pub a lot having lunchtime pints, bought stuff i can't really afford of Ebay, saw a few friends. Got what i deserved though when they forgot to pay me my holidays on Friday, meaning i've got about £15 to my name. Useless bastards. This week will involved some intense job-searching.

  • My week has been busy

I expect this week to be busier.

I HAVE met a really really cool girl though...so I guess THAT is kinda exciting
