First of all, they couldn't look more like a 'proper' band. After watching them, I want a beard more than ever
Secondly, hearing their stuff live at times bordered on amazing. I'm wary of over-hyping this too much, but I haven't been to a gig where I've been that wrapped up in the songs for ages. As it was one of their first UK gigs, the crowd were obviously all people that had seeked the EP out, and were all super appreciative - they must've got solid applause for about three minutes following the last song
Go and see them in a small venue while you can!
And buy their EP, too. C'mon, it's only £3

Incidentally, I saw their album reviewed for the first time this morning in the Guardian, and it got five out of five

Really?
I've listened to their EP and album a couple of times and i really don't understand the fuss.
I will keep listening....
I like them a lot
but it is just slightly tempered by the air of instrument-swapping close harmony this-is-all-too-easy smugness they seem to exude.
How long did they play for?
I would have liked to see them! I really like the EP and the album.
about half an hour
...and they were really, really, scarily good. Every harmony was nailed note for note. Vocally they were probably the most talented group i've ever seen. No instrument swapping. Very beardy, very charming, very great.
I haven't seen a photo of them
But they sound mighty beardy on record. I will have to go and see them!
pity
they are already playing venues the size of ULU, which is a dreadful place aswell
EP good
and I've seen them a couple of times live and they were amazing. the album just sounds SO much like my morning jacket though that I don't know what to make of it...
Agreed
it was amazing. I think Robin was totally overwhelmed by the reception as he wasn't expecting it at all when I spoke to him earlier before.
They'll be selling out Shepherds Bush Empire within a few months - guaranteed!
They did all seem really humble
And yeah, it came across the reactions to the songs took them completely by surprise. I liked how all the others took a back seat when he sang Oliver James solo, and then all looked just as into it as the crowd were
I really wanted to go to this but couldn't.
The EP is terrific and I'm thoroughly enjoying the album too. I'm a little annoyed the instore at Sister Ray was cancelled on Wednesday.
My Jaw
literally dropped to the floor last night...
They were abolutely perfect and I disagree about the smugness. They are beyond humble.
I was a little annoyed about the sister Ray thing too, but I went over to Rough Trade and found them all playing their Ipod over the PA and jumping around the place... which in my view was FAR better!
Who said they were smug?!
Me
Although, I didn't say there were, just that was a feeling I got from listening to the ep. Others above have confirmed that this is not the case and, happily, I stand corrected.
I see
What a speedy response!
Friday innit?
