best Super Furries album

I'll go for Guerrilla here - samba drums, drill 'n bass, Hawaiian vibes and summer tannings, all contained within a bonkers pop album of classic melodies. Tasty!

  • i think i can agree

any album with Northen Lites, Wherever I Lay My Phone, that riff off Some Things Come From nothing and the "don't go chewing in bed - you might wake up with it stuck in your haiiiiirrr" is clearly brilliant.

not forgetting The Teacher, Fire In my heart.. screw it, the whole thing,

    but Radiator is gold too.

    ahhh french bread!

    • i'm still voting for

      Rings

    • the whole thing indeed

and it's got loads of peripheral shit too! The coded lyrics that you can (if you're bothered) de-code with the language decoder hidden inside the inlay.

Then there's the pre-LP secret track... was that the first time any band had ever done that? It took me a month to even realise it was there!

      Geniuzzez.

      • really!?

i dont think i've noticed it! I know theres one on Out Spaced (which deserves a mention for the most ridiculous album ending ever).

        hmmmm coding... hmmm

        • citizen's band

          rewind from the beginning...

it took me a while to realise too!

  • Radiator

Clearly and distinctly. Tight, melodic and crunchy. Mmm.

  • i think we can safely say

    any of the 5 records.

  • Rings or Radiator

Everything else except Fuzzy Logic and Love Kraft following close behind. Those two are merely good as opposed to brilliant.

    • guerrilla is the best

love all of them apart from love kraft (even though it's worth it for ohio heat and frequency). in the harshest mood, i'd say rings has too many violins (let's make an important record and add a string section).
      1 guerrilla
      2 radiator
      3 fuzzy logic
      4 out spaced
      5 hey venus
      6 phantom power
      7 mwng
      8 rings
      9 love kraft
the neon neon album is amazing, getting better with every listen. the gruff albums each have a couple of great tracks on. ffa coffi pawb ain't very good.

      • now now,

ffa coffi pawb have a few good tunes. i'd say i like them as much as Gruff's solo stuff. Valium is a particular favourite.

Acid Casuals are great too, although i've not got any of their albums :(

  • radiator tops it for me

yeah! an album that always makes me happy.

    in order...

    radiator
    guerrilla
    fuzzy logic
    out spaced
    mwng
    phantom power
    hey venus
    rings
    love kraft

  • Guerrilla

for me too, although Radiator is a close second. I remember I bought Guerrilla and Surrender by The Chemical Brothers on the same day and they pretty much soundtracked the whole of the hazy summer of '99 for me. I liked the whole '...it's conspiracy' crack on The Turning Tide and undercover spy vibe of the album which fitted with all the pre-millenium tension news stories that were around at that time too.

    • re: Turning Tide

I went to Glasto for the first time in 99 and that song, along with 'Some Things Come From Nothing' were like ghost soundtracks in my head throughout the whole weekend! My SFA love affair began there and then... sweet!

  • i thought it was universally DiS agreed that

rings is one of the best albums by anyone ever (shoot doris day aside)?? apparently not these days. anyroads, for my money it's:
    rings
    radiator
    guerilla
    mwng
love kraft (still has some top moments!)
    hey venus (barely listened to)

    i don't have outspaced

    • oops i forgot fuzzy logic

      input between guerilla and mwng

    • I've noticed many seem

to rate rings as their best but however much I listen to it it never comes together as an album. It contains some of the best SFA songs ever (juxt, presidential, run christian) but the first half is muddled and just doesn't work for me.

Despite it having some incerdible songs Radiator does not gel like say a Love Kraft which has over all weaker songs. Radiator in my mind almost sounds like a greatest hits record.

It's for this reason I believe Guerrilla is their most coherent album and SFA's masterwork

      • really?

i think it works better as an album than, say, Guerrilla. i think they hit their stride making cohesive albums with rings/phantom power.

  • Fuzzy Logic

    Class

  • Once again, too much Rings love for me

Guerilla (without a doubt their high watermark)
    Phantom Power
    Radiator
    Love Kraft
    Out Spaced
    Mwng
    Fuzzy Logic
    Hey Venus
    Rings Around The World

I'm a HUUUUGE SFA fan and I can't get the Rings love. It's really pedestrian for them.

    • guerilla for me

      then mwng

not that arsed about owt after that.... like the chap above says, it's all a bit pedestrian innit...

      • They're like my children

I love them all equally. I do have a special soft spot for Guerilla and Radiator though.

        • im going to go for mwng

if it was all sung in english, it would have been their biggest hit, it is simply brilliant from start to finish.

          THen radiator,
          guerilla
          out spaced
          fuzzy logic
          Venus,
          rings,

          phantom

          • I'll go:

            Radiator
            Fuzzy Logic
            Guerrilla
            Rings around the world
            Mwng
            Out Spaced
            Love Kraft
            Phantom Power
            Hey Venus

  • best Super Furries album

It cannot be done! The Best SFA album is an ever changing entity, like the clouds in the sky, the waves in the sea and the gasses in my bowel.

It changes upon the whim of a tune.

The only thing that remains constant is that Phantom Phorce is their worst!

  • Rings Around the World

The first half especially is brilliant.
