Creep: Liars reveal Radiohead tour demands, wax lyrical
Posted: 23 May '08, 13:03
Currently on tour with Radiohead in the US, Liars have posted a breathlessly exalting ‘blog on their MySpace about the Oxford quintet, calling them “purveyors of truth, beauty and a moral responsibility to the planet.”
“In a world full of fear and ripe with insincerity it’s such a relief to have met Radiohead,” they begin, before saying: “We've been welcomed with literal open ams and thoroughly schooled on how to function as a band -not just musically, but ethicly too. [sp]
“The honor is in learning from the best and from the beginning we've been in class,” they continue, no specific member credited with the post. “The important thing for us to make clear is just how awe inspiring this production is.”
From here on in they dive into a dissection of the tour arrangements Radiohead put in place in order to lower their carbon footprint – arrangements that, admittedly, do sound fairly meticulous and mightily thoughtful.
“At the outset we were all given tour water flasks. Plastic anything is like contraband.
“Every bus and truck runs on bio-fuel,” they continue. “There is no idling, rather some new-fangled way to deliver electricity cleanly.
“They don’t do air-freight either. The list goes on.”
As does the admiration, Liars eulogising on a band who “all contribute such an immense amount to the outcome.
“Their extreme individual talents blending so naturally… to witness this first-hand is an education in musicianship and vision that’s certainly not been lost on us.”
Clearly Angus and crew are rather besotted with their British brethren, thanking them for their support and looking forward to reuniting at the Radiohead-curated Daydream Festival next month and then the West Coast tour of the US.
“So no tears yet.”
Not that we’ve heard anything to this effect, but some kind of musical collaboration would no doubt be immense. Fingers x’d Liars' love is reciprocated.

-
yup.
we've got some horribly mediocre supports.
I was crying out for Brand New! -
I was hoping this would reveal that Radiohead were massive
hypocrits with diva-esque riders.
Saying that, aren't biofuels one of the main contibuters (currently) to the 'food crisis' and poverty in some countries?...
-
No.
The world has a massive food surplus that is increasing, even in countries where there is a great deal of famine. Most starvation is a result of war, poverty, corruption, government incompetence... basically, biofuels aren't the problem.
-
They have a set of gear
in the US, and one in the UK.
so no shipping. -
Liars
are being a bit too sycophantic me thinks!
-
good good
do you what we all need now, more flippant comments from smug bastards who dont realise the scale of the mess we are in.... i am starting to lose faith in humanity and its ability to save itself... its a touch depressing to be honest

can anyone tell me
who is suppporting them in dublin?
is it bats for lashes?
-
Dublin support
Yes bats for lashes are supporting them in Dublin
-
-
-
-
aren't the *current* problem
But if we were to continue to use them there is simply not enough ground on the planet to support enough 1st generation biofuels. Plus most of the area used to plant biofuel-crop comes from hacked down rainforests.
Biofuels iz bad ok?
-
correct
people don't criticise biofuels for directly depriving people of food. biofuels are not the answer simply because the process of cultivating their energy is inefficient and - in some respects - counterproductive.
and of course there is also the issue of whether it is morally acceptable for the richest on earth to burn crops for energy whilst the poorest on earth die of starvation.

-
-
why dont they just marry them
-
Whilst were on the subject
Id just like to make everyone who is not in practical travelling distance of liverpool very jealous - some forward thinking soul has booked Liars AND Deerhunter to appear on the same bill in June...up yours rest of UK!!!!!!!!!!
