Anyone find this bands press completely vomit worthy?
There was an article in the Sunday Times magazine on how they were DIY despite the fact that they're on Sony BMG, she was formerly in girl bands on majors. The idea that they do anything themselves other than perhaps(?) write the songs is insane.
Do people really buy into this stuff? There was an interview I read where they were talking about how they didn't want to do radio jingles etc because they didn't want to sell out and they wanted their song to go to number 1 under it's own steam.
Yeh, it's own steam and a £0000 budget for advertising and tour support.
Does anyone else think that the single is essentially just another Bob The Builder or Nizlopi? Bought by kids because it has funny words?
It's so bizarre the way people are again trying to hijack the word DIY to apply to bands on multinationals!

I've only heard the single but I've been reading a lot of crap papers recently because I've been on tour and all you read about is how ethical they are and how much they do for themselves and how they are really sticking it to the man...
Their popularity is
really bizarre. I picked up their EP last year and quite enjoyed it but the songs on the whole got old pretty fast. When the new album came out, I downloaded it to have a listen seeing as I had been wanting to hear it back when I got the EP. It's okay, but after a couple times through you've heard it all far too many times.

I've only heard
snippets of songs on the TV advert for their album. Thats as much exposure I think I need or want, maybe too much actually. They sounded ABSOLUTELY gash. And a really shit name too. I havent heard Jean Jing Lang Jong Bong or whatever either because I'm sure they'll also be really bad on account of that irritating name. I'm not sure if I'm irrational, grumpy, or correct.

Did anyone see the Quietus' review yesterday? By David McNamee, for shame, who reckoned the live version of That's Not My Name sounds like Life Without Buildings. I've seen them play That's Not My Name live, and while it is true that Katie goes into repetitive single syllable shrieking towards the end it's like claiming Bon Iver sings like James Blunt.

I understand the annoyance
at them being marketed as something credible, but that criticism can be levelled at so many bands at the moment and probably throughout the whole of popular music history. I personally think their music is fairly shit and their name is very nearly as abhorrent as Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong but there's no point getting so upset about it. the overrated 'style' bands usually get the most publicity and most mainstream sucess because they cater, for want of a less patronising expression, to the lowest common denominator, and therefore make the most money. what is this but history repeating itself?
