So yesterday I went to Lord's to see the final day of the test, it was awesome. it was simply one of the most pleasant experiences of my entire life.

Test match cricket - surely the very pinnacle of human civilisation? if not... what is?

i agree

but i'm still going to twat the living shit out of the ball in a 16 overs match later.

Pah

you're worse than McCullum

:)

yeah, short cricket games are more exciting

I'm going back to Lord's in a month for Middlesex vs Sussex Twenty20, that's going to be mad

perhaps exciting, but not better

and i'm not entirely sure they're even more exciting most of the time.

well, kinda

they're more exciting for the short time, but they lack the ebb and flow of the 5 day game.

And some of them can be a bit tiresome.

*tomorrow night

hopefully

wishing my week away :(

Shame you saw a fairly meaningless end to a game really.

I agree though, test cricket is a lovely day out. I'm already looking forward to going to Lords for the South Africa test in a couple of months.

yeah

but when McCullum went off injured it looked like a result was a possibility. (very briefly)

I'm not bitter. It was such a lovely day out anyway.

Did you take a picnic and a copy of the Daily Telegraph?

I think they're the rules.

That and getting smashed on Guinness.

I took a picnic...

...and a Jewish-South-African.

Is that close enough??

bellend

You're lucky I'm soft on yobs.

I'd be sorting you right out otherwise.

I'll let you have a free Chinese Burn as a start

Where's this taking place? A McDonalds 'Restaurant'?

Rather stupidly,

I've never been to Lords. I hope to rectify this soon.

I'm in full agreement about Test Match cricket being the pinnacle of human civilisation.

yesterday was my first trip

it's just so beautiful

I've never seen a match at Lords

but I've been. I spent years loitering at Grace Road, i was a deprived child....

I ordered a hammock off the internet

Purely because I hope one day to lie in a hammock on a sunny day listening to TMS on longwave. This would undoutably be the pinacle of relaxation.

doesn't even need to be a test match

in many ways a 4 day county game on a nice day is even more pleasant than the crowds that tests bring in. my personal favourite is the season opener with the champion county vs an mcc team. i went last year and saw adil rashid bat in the morning then caught harmison and hoggard bowling at sussex in the afternoon. i even got to throw harmison the ball.

the weather of glorious, the ground was active but a long way from full, the members were about, i had a bottle of rum and a bottle of wine, sandwiches and cake, and a copy of the saturday guardian, and it was all perfect. i even got a small nap in.

you may be right

it was quite empty yesterday, which probably helped with the pleasantness aspect of the day.

it is wonderful

I haven't been for a few years though and it is horrendously expensive now. Used to mainly go to Edgbaston or the Oval.

I think I am going to go to Lord's for either Eton/Harrow or Oxford/Cambridge because I think those matches are free and should be full of amusing toffs in blazers.

Oxford/Cambridge is on June 17th

which is a Tuesday. Rubbish. Last year it was on a Sunday and I had a wonderful afternoon, incorporating a stroll home through Regent’s Park. I might take the day off and come with you.

(Eton/Harrow is the day we’re doing Rota)

I'm hoping to see ENG v AUS next summer at Lords

How does one go about acquiring a ticket?

And I agree that test match cricket is the pinnacle of human civilisation.

Test matches at Headingley

aren't really the pinnacle of anything...

Not even that

though it is usually quite fun :D

i haven't been to a match at headingley yet

embarrassing since i've been in leeds for 3 years.
i've been meaning to go!!
where my girlfriend used to live you could see most of the pitch from her skylight. that's as close as i've got.
will go this summer since i'll hopefully have some cash!

It's probably better if you go

and stand and perform infront of thousands on the pitch and meet the teams :)

That just about sums up my last friday

my dad took me

when I was about 10, I remember it being awesome. I think the last international game I went to was a one-dayer at Chester Le Street that got rained off (has there ever been a cricket match in Chester Le Street that hasn't been rained off?).

Rather.
