This happens to coincide with my Interrailing over the summer, so me and my mates are going. Has anyone been before? What's it like? Looking at last year's line up makes me feel a bit sick, it's SO fucking good and I can't believe I didn't know about it considering how cheap and easy to get to it is. But this year does look good. And cheap. So yeah, anyone going, and is the current line-up the final line-up?
meh
I want to see subtle and why? thats about it.
I am from belgium and am seriously annoyed at how lame the festivals look this year. Usually its top quality.
Although Werchter is rock solid. will be going to that
There's some other ace bands
Battles, Drumcorps, Future Of The Left, and a load of people I'd definitely watch like Earth, Foals, Ice Cube, Pendulum.
What's the festival like in general though? And yeah, is that the complete line up then?
oh id probably go if I could rally up a group to go with me
Iv never been actually. So im not much help there.
I hear its a bit shambolic in places but still good fun.
we're going
yeh
i went last year
and based on this year's line up i wouldn't recomend it at all. the whole thing was a massive ordeal, the organisation was terrible. After our tickets were stolen we were basically mocked by four attendants until we managed to find somebody helpful the next day (after we'd camped in the field next to it). It was incredibly difficult to get water, and for huge periods at a time the taps were simply off, which was ridiculous. Bands cancelled and we had no idea of it until 30 minutes into their supposed set time when someone came out and said that erase errata were in fact not playing anymore... etc etc. the only thing that made it worthwhile was that the line up was really really good, but based on the very middling line up this year I wouldn't bother; it doesn't outweigh the cons. Unless they've completely rethought the organisation aspect.
^
it's really badly organised and blatently done on the cheap
fun!
for most, i'd wager
I've been the last 2 years
The first year I went it was much much better... last year it was really badly organised but still fun after all the tents and everything had been set up! If they manage to sort that out it should be alot of fun
The line-up isn't completely final yet but I think its pretty much there, maybe a few more bands but to be honest it's not that good this year... I thought they could do better.
Still it's one of the best festivals I've been to so i really recommend it if you haven't been before!
I went in
04 I think and I'm going to give it a mixed review.
Getting there was fine and the organisation was so so.
Camping was a little like what I imagine camping at V to be like only with added hippies.
Days are kinda themed. So one day more metal and one day more indie. This meant one day you had clashes and the next no on to see.
There isn't much else to do other than see the bands and the food if poor for vegetarians.
On the plus side it was great not to be surrounded by brits (and those young euro boys are cute /perve) and people were pretty friendly. Its cheep all in all too. Oh and seeing ed rush and optical again made the weekend.
I'm glad I went but probably wouldn't go again.
it wasnt really badly organised
I dunno what everyone's on about
last year was the first year it has sold out, and a shitload of people arrived thinking they could buy tickets on the day. Other than the obvious problems which arose from that I dont see what, bar maybe some more water taps about the place, was badly organised. Everything ran ontime, the people were nice, the drink and food cheap (also - lidl down the road) and I had a great time.
The only thing I'd say is when booking tickets use the ones who send you them, we had to camp outside on the wednesday because we were unable to pick up our tickets as the stupid people had closed the desk.
Yeah I'm going to order them asap from a UK ticket outlet
And then take them with me and hope to God I don't lose them, although to be honest I'll be more worried about my passport. Really looking forward to it.
I've been the last 2 years
and I've never had any organisational problems but I may have just been lucky judging by the numerous horror stories about. I'd thoroughly recommend it, my favourite part of Dour is they put most bands on at a GOOD TIME, I want to be seeing Animal Collective and Justice and Bright Eyes at 1 in the morning, not 4 30 in the afternoon or whatever. This year's line up is less jaw dropping than recent years but it's still pretty damn hot, speaking of which, the weather always seems to be wicked. Yeah, go go go go.
Been three times.
Really like it. Considering how cheap it is I wasn't too bothered that things didn't always run smoothly. It was only the camp site dilemma that I found to be a pain in the arse. People are mostly really nice. Weather has more often been fantastic. Line in is usually pretty good. I love Hoegaarden and there it is lovely. Might give it a miss this year. If only because I'm really skint.
More bands!
New bands confirmed:
DJ Krush - Ratatat - Chuck Dukowski Sextet - Flat Earth Society meets Jimi Tenor - Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire) - The Germans - General Mindy - Casey - Didier Super et son groupe - Sierra_sam & Marcus Vector live - The Heliocentrics
Also...
Within one of these areas, you will also find an entirely new stand with special beers where you will have the opportunity to peacefully try some Belgian specialties! Drink responsibly!
AMAZING!
WU TTTTAAAANNNNGGGG
KILLER BEES ON THE SWARM :D:D:D:D:D
Wu Tang again!
fuck yes!
missed half their set last year cos my friend whiteyed out
Am so tempted now
"Wu Tang again?"
"Ahhhh yeah! Again & again"
HOLY SHIT
Are you serious? I bought my ticket today! I am now 1000x more excited.
Guy!
I only just realised this is you! It is guy from Truck 06 yeah? Looks like festival #2 for us!
Haha shit, hi Jack!
Yeah, John's coming as well, the ginger one from Truck? Haha and a few other mates. So up for this now.
Amazing
see you down the front for Wu-Tang. What day you arriving, Wednesday or Thursday?
It's good.
apart from the unable to organise a piss up in a brewery bit.
I went last year
Cuz I won some tickets from DiS at the very last minute. Overall: fun, but with some problems.
Organistion was a bit shit, particually getting to the site via festival bus from the local train station. It took ~8 hours to get from the train to putting a tent up, I was not impressed.
Tokens for beer and food was a bit gash, but at least the beer was good (and by the sound of it there's more specialty Belgian beer this year).
The site itself was pretty good, the large tents were great to lay down in during the hottest part of the day. I had a bit of a kip during Merzbow, I took pride in that.
Music was good, the lineup artist year was ace. And as someone else mentioned, lots of euro-teenager girls in short short short short short shorts. Pwhoooar.
Oh, I've got a set of photos from last year if you want a gander

If you do go, definitely go find the quarry late, it was amazing:

it took you EIGHT HOURS?
I don't think they can be blamed for people with no common sense. If you asked one of the many cab drivers outside how much a cab was to the site you may have been surprised and got there about 7 and a half hours quicker.
It may have been a sligh exageration
but it took a while. The taxi drivers seemed a bit dodgey too.
Then there was getting dropped off at the site, 'cept it was only the start of the road to the site, and the road was a queue all the way.
Then queuing to get writebands, finding out the guestlist wristband place was somewhere else.
Then queueing there with about 20 other people, who all took eternity to get sorted out because they didn't have ID, or spoke a different language, or were "definitely on the list, just check again mate, yeah?".
oops I did sound a bit arsey
there were problems last year, but it's understandable, it was probably the first year it was highlighted by sites such as this as a festival to go to (maybe second) so it sold out, which meant loads of belgian/dutch kids turned up trying to buy tickets on the door and chaos ensued. But I think they will have it down this year.
aside from the first day I dont really think they did anything wrong.
i went 2 years ago
i cannot emphasize just how horrible it was.
also
someone died in the quarry lake
just to put a further downer on things
it looked pretty dangerous for drunk/high people
but that lake was so beautiful, shame we only found it on the last day. plus I cant swim anyway.
Not to people:
There's a little shop in town which sells tobacco related paraphernalia, and if you wait around enough looking dodgy, they'll ask if you want weed and take you into a back room filled with mushrooms and shizzle. I think the Wu Tang picked up there.
^this
I'm still coughing up dust
what the holy fuck?
Why's everyone got such a downer on Dour? what made it so horrible? The weather's gorgeous, the price of stuff is cheap cheap cheap, the line up in unbelievable, the party is constant...
i won tickets from DiS
last week
so i'm quite looking forward to it.
Does anyone know, i have been ASSURED by someone that i'll be able to buy a camping pass when i get there. Is this the case?
Im running tings
with my festival bus to dour, looking forward to getting a coach right into the site from victoria whilst dancing to noisia.
fuck you
