Fiction or non. What's the furthest you've got before going 'ah this is shit', scrapping it and starting again?
Me - about three pages in Word. Poor.

yes
did about 4000 words. it was wank.
i'd like to write my autobiography
i have a lot of stories. but i wouldn't want anyone reading it, so really... pointless.
every idea I get
I have to keep editing it until it's no longer about me. (I wouldn't really want anyone else to read my autobiography either).
Is everyone this self absorbed or is it just me?
i just would find it a bit thereputic
because i've had a lot of things in the past that have been hard to lay to rest, y'know? i don't think it's self absorbed, i think it's incredibly personal, which is why putting something like that out for the public to read would be too much for me.
would it be fiction or non-fiction? i imagine books to have elements of the authors in them.
I want to write fiction
Oh, I'm sure most books have elements of the author in them, but I have a big thing about Russian books with witches and talking cats and stuff, and I fear I lack the imagination to create them.
I can understand those motives for wanting to do an autobiography, I hope I've not given the impression of being rude to you, I was basically being rude to myself.
nah, you didn't come accross like that at all :)
i love books that mirror the underlying mood of society at the time. but i'm not talented, and that would take a lot of talent.
my main reason for writing it, and if i WOULD ever have anyone read it, is that i'm pretty "normal" by today's standards. and i think it would be interesting for the older generation to know what it's like for us youngsters who grow up in england these days. i don't think my experiences are unique, i just think the media takes a very arrogant view about my generation and what we have to face.
ficton is brilliant though. do you have many ideas? i'd love to write a fantasy book, or something for children with animals in it (wolves, obviously)
yes.
a philosophical lament on the state of society - did about 4000 words - was shit.
a few times
for about 5 pages.
i'll write a book one day, but it'll probably be historical or memoirs or something.
I m
currently working on a few projects
what about?
A collection
of things that come into my mind, including sketches, a childrens book and trying to get the poetry of Arthur Soft published for the first time
childrens book :D
can i illustrate?
mmm
my sketches are a bit dark which just adds a bit, i cant actually draw though so maybe
i was joking.
i paint, but i'm no BA illustrator...
that was casually stated
"I'm in talks"
Yes
.
i hope you use apostrophes :|
Yes, fiction
My previous attempts have been similar to yours though, in that they were quite quickly scrapped. Although with summer approaching I have renewed vigour and hope to actually make a proper go of it. At the moment though it's just scattered notes of ideas.
I think I'm just gonna try and do some every day, and get some kind of schedule going. Hopefully it will be the path to success.
I'm convinced that
it must be about having the plan in place before you start writing. Unfortunately I'm totally clueless at structuring a narrative! We need to learn this stuff.
ive tried writing a screenplay
much easier than book, still gave up after 3 pages or so. Maybe one day.
I tryed a few times
and got like 3 pages o like 3 lil sections of stream of conciousness bollocks and pretty much gave up. I write about music all the time though on a blog that doesnt seem so personal and creative so seams easyer to do.
I have it here. It's 63,437 words long.
It's pretty much utter shit, though.
I did about 50K on an even worse one once too.
i've been in the process of writing a book for a few months./
i don't actually know what it is going to be about though.
I'm sure it must have some merit
whats it about?
It's a small-scale generic fantasy sword and sorcery affair
I did it for NaNoWriMo.org initially and then wrote up from 50K about 7 months later when I edited it too. I'm guessing total words typed into it were about 70K but I did take a bunch of REALLY crap bits out.
who's gona start the thread
Has anyone else ever tried to read a book?
???????????????
I've tried writing fiction
several times and I always seem to go through the same process of becoming really enthused about it to becoming totally apathetic, saying that I've been working on a play for some time now which I'm hoping might still see the light of day.
i usually find whatever
i write at night to be truly awful if i read through it the next morning
when i was 14
me and my friend wrote about a page of rubbish nihilistic 14-year old's "philosophy", thinking it would have as much significance as the dead sea scrolls or something.
The best books begin with
"Once upon a time" and end with "and then I woke up".
i've been quite excited about an idea
i had a while ago that hasn't struck me as shit yet. remains to be seen if i sit down and write it - but then i'm in the same boat as 90% of frustrated writers.
I got to 12k words before loosing interest.
I suppose I could release it as a shorter thing on my blog... something I had been flirting with recently.
I'm on about 6,000 words of one at the moment.
I'm pretty confident it's not shit but less confident on what the market is for a bleak existentialist children's book about Father Christmas...
I've got about 20,000 words
of pretty general 'research' for a novel I intend to write over the course of the next decade. It's going to be amazing.
Well, I hope it'll be amazing
it'll probably be either average or completely inpenitrable.
Do you mean a novel or what?
I've started a few times, I don't think I have it in me to write a novel (at least not yet) but I've got loads of short prose and kind of short stories, enough for a couple of books. But you know, publishers are scary, man.
although
I did once write about 30 pages of a "novel". Then I realised it was crap and left the whole project to die.
I'm writing a screenplay
A light-hearted comedy drama in the style of Bill Forsyth. It's, essentially, about a guy who fakes his own death to make his band famous. I haven't got a lot done, but I do have a fair bit of character guff and plot development and stuff like that. Who knows, one day it might be finished and someone might like to read it!
