I just signed up after seeing it mentioned here quite a bit. Is it supposed to be to get new music recommendations? I am supposed to add people as friends to do this?? confused.

No. You don't have to add friends.

It's generally to let you keep track of what you listen to. I'm sure it has lots of other pointless features, but...

the point is that i have a new profile pic

and i love to eat ice cream

well

that is a lovely profile pic BUT twee sounds more accurate alThough it still seems a little crazy

you show off your mus.ic taste

Also you can say hello to your neighbours and congratulate them on their taste (which is basically yours because neighbour=is supposed to listen to similar music to you).
You can add people and message them or recommend them things.
Oh and you can put events that you're going to on your profile and talk about the gig.
That's it.

+

look for artists, most have a few songs on there that you can listen to for free.

Records what you listen to

Personalised music recommendations
Event listings that stop you missing things you like
Free music on demand from all 4 majors + a bunch of larger indies and thousands of smaller labels and artists
Um, radio, and stuff.
Community?

ooook

Sounds quite interesting actually. No doubt I'll be addicted to it pretty soon.

to become accutely aware

you listen to the same shit over and over again.

i like it cos it gets me a bio of whatever im listening to

and then says hey you might like this too cos other people who like what you do do.

Kinda works, sorta, kinda, slightly.

And then start enjoying that fact

or force yourself to listen to other stuff in order that you don't look like a dull prick. which can only be a good thing.

2 True

My looked at my chart one day and realised Radiohead took up about 20% of my scrobbles.
"HOLY FUCK!" said I, and proceeded to listen to other stuff.
