They're playing at Sleazy's on Wednesday..
Any Glasgow DiSers going (I ask because I'll probably be on my lonesome and figured there's a chance one of you people will be there and it'd be nice to meet a real life DiSer so that I know I've not just been talking to computers for the past so many years)?
Also, how do you pronounce Xiu Xiu? I don't wanna sound like an eejit buying a ticket (I'm assuming it's not sold out). Is it like 'Zoo Zoo'? I don't know any real life people who like this band and only just realised I don't think I've ever said their name aloud before.
Shoe Shoe.
Even if there are no DiSers going (which there will be, right?), you should definitely go!
Yeah, I will.
Really 'Shoe Shoe'? Wow, I hadn't expected it to be that..
yup!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiu_Xiu
it's a pretty name.
It is.
i was gonna go
and i went to buy a ticket yesterday, but the man said it was sold out.
:(
i hope i wasn't lied to. i said it kinda like "zoo zoo" as well, though. i hope he didn't look for a band actually written like "zoo zoo"...
Oh nos!
I got my hopes up and everything.
the site says it isn't sold out!
i dunno what to believe :(
Says not available on both of their myspaces.
But maybe that just means not available to buy from there. I might just go anyway and see if they'll let me in/I can sneak in (goodness knows how). Just to enhance the disapointment, ha h.
:(
I'm going to saul williams instead. The one time there's actually a gig on I want to go to, two come along at the same time.
I figured that there's more chance that i'll see xiu xiu at some other point, and my friend's going to xiu xiu and i'm borrowing his ID to get in. It would end up either both of us get in or neither, so i'll just take the safe option and go to Saul.
I didn't know chris garneau was there too. Would'ave maybe chosen differently.
I'd say there's
far more chance of seeing Saul Williams again - Xiu Xiu hate the UK
:(
ugh :(
bought my ticket now so no going back. I'm also not convinced on how good xiu xiu would be live, but there you go. I've heard they're "OMG LIKE AMAZING" and stuff, but yeah...
Oh well.
I saw them last week
and I thought they were OMG LIKE AMAZING, but I've heard Saul Williams is too.
It's the kind of gig clash where you can't reeeeeally go wrong.
Except that, yeah, Xiu Xiu tour the UK a lot less frequently.
Fingers crossed it's spoken word
otherwise i'll be sitting there regretting it for the whole set.
I seem to be finishing most of my sentences these days with "oh well". I'm not sure if this is A Good Thing. Oh well.
so annoyed about missing this tour.
Bed
wetters
i'm going alone on wednesday
i tried to get some friends to join me, but theyre all examming an that
i am going to try and watch some of the champs.league final somewhere on sauchiehall st. before the gig (again, on my own)
but if you see us at the gig, say hello.
Will do.
If I get to it..
yup yup yup, i'll be there.
Pretty annoyed at the clash with Saul Williams. Same with the Animal Collective / Cadence Weapon clash tomorrow.
I'll be on my own, so if anyone sees me please feel free to come and say hello
Yay, got my ticket, thanks Medulla.
So if anyone else's still wanting to go, you know, you can. :S Lol.
you got the last tickets ^^
TONIGHT WILL BE AMAZING
do us a favour and let me know a rough
sketch of a set, eh? Just what albums the stuff's being pulled from rather than a complete setlist (i.e. spoiler)
Also if you bring them Pandapple things you receive presents.
Will try
although I'm utterly rubbish at song titles
Madonna's pretty crap at song titles too
It will...
I REALLY REALLY hope they play Hives Hives.
I really really hope they play:
suha
dr troll
little panda mcelroy
helsabot
I luv the valley
clover
apistat commander
and pretty much most of their songs, I wish there were less support acts.
if there's one
consolation from not been at atp, it's i won't be tired & emotional at this tonight.
not tired anyway.
xiu xiu tonight tonight
exciting!!
music from 8pm FYI >
XIU XIU
CHRIS GARNEAU
TELEPATHE
SOILED MATTRESS & THE SPRINGS
Monday 19 May
ULU, Malet Street, WC1E 7HY
7:30pm | £9 | www.wegottickets.com
wah!
x
Oh I want to go!
will there still be tickets?
oh, no.
anyone have a spare?
there were loads on wegottickets yesterday
so i don't think it's sold out, just taken off sale
So...
It was really great tonight. First band (Soiled Matress and the Springs i think) were irritating. I thought they sounded like an in house 80's Jazz band from some sleazy new york bar.
Telepathe were alright...singer got a bit irritating but overall it was ok.
Chris Garnau was a bit dull.
Xiu Xiu were really fucking good. Mainly tracks from last two albums with Clowne town and Clover added in as well. Would have liked some more off of Knife Party but yeh, still a fucking great show. Jamie Stewart looked like such a miserable cunt whilst on the merch stall.
no encore made me sad
but they were really good. didn't realise i missed soiled matress, thought they were ok when i saw them before but yeah, they sound like restaurant music or something.
i enjoyed chris garneau, though like i said to joeymahone from the internet, he sounds a bit like james blunt. still gave his merch guy 20 quid for an album and t-shirt though.
nice seeing lots of people off here :)
Thought Xiu Xiu were good
though very hard going at times. Chris Garneau had a cool voice, but his lyrics were banal "moon in june" bollockry. Soiled Mattress were annoying and Telepathe was shrugworthy. Glad I went, but definitely one of the lesser shows of '08 so far.
I thought Telepathe were
brilliant and Xiu Xiu was incredible.
Nice to have a quiet London crowd for once too.
are the supports worth watching?
I'm going on my own and can't really be bothered milling around myself between acts if they're not worth it
I thought the two other supports were alright
...but thought Chris Garneau was rubbish. Just nothing particularly above average about him.
Xiu Xiu were good...worth it for Save Me Save Me and Suha alone. But yeah, hard going at times. Glad I went though.
Yeah, I have to say the crowd was good
I think I'd have enjoyed Xiu Xiu more if I wasn't so fucking knackered and if they looked like they actually wanted to be there. Still impressive though.
i don't think you can really expect them to look like they want to be anywhere
but yeah, that was fucking incredible.
Yizzurr
Agree with the comment re: Garneau sounding like Blunt. I said the same thing to my friend funnily enough. Telepathe were great imo. Xiu Xiu were excellent as always. My enjoyment was slightly marred by the young man at the front of the crowd doing an impossibly affected jerky jerky dance. We get it... you know the songs. Calm down.
:D
there were a few people doing jerky dances, it was fun to watch.
telepathe were very good, i forgot to mention them :)
haha
yeah, forgot about all the "real" fans there. 90% of people nodding along, then the odd person doing an impression of Mark from Peep Show going mad at the interpretive dance class.
:D
Did anyone notice the girl screaming from the very bottom of her lungs after EVERY song? Yes. We get it.
Haha, yeah
Though I did like the rather bewildered girl standing behind me shouting WHEN WILL YOU START SAYING REAL WORDS at Jamie Stewart.
.
Every so often he would get a bit too jerky, then stop and tousle his hair back into its anti-shape.
i really enjoyed xiu xiu
chis garnau i could have done without, but telepathe were alright
i met you
you are a nice guy.
you did
hello!
i'm going
i'm 'deliriously excited'. xiu xiu are my favourite band ever.
I'm going
So em hai
Am I the only one going to saul williams instead then? Do I fail at being a DiSser?
i've seen both over the last couple of days
conclusion:
buy a xiu xiu ticket, and to hell with the money lost on sw. it's worth it.
hmm
i disagree, i think i enjoyed saul williams a lot more, but xiu xiu played so well.
anyway were you there last night kid_a? you're at every gig i go to, how have we not met?
haha
yeah, this has been the week where i spend every last penny seeing all of my favourite bands, i'm not usually this prolific. were you at tnv&no age/a place to bury strangers last week?
i'm still going to see saul williams again next week though, i think waking up with a picture of jamie stewart next to my face for the last week or so has addled my brain. in a good way.
i was at TNV
at barden's, yeah! i didn't see a place to bury strangers though, i think i had an exam the next day.
where/when is saul williams playing next week? do want.
oxfard, blad
http://www.last.fm/event/532732
allow that
i'm not in the country. i want to go to oxford again though, it was nice last time.
But there's the risk/extremely high possibility
that I won't get in at xiu xiu, and the much lower probability that i'll get knocked back from saul williams.
Meh. I'm sure they'll both be amazing. I don't think I can be bothered with xiu xiu that much at the moment anyway.
HEY HEY, was it saul williams spoken word or what?
nononnonoono.
full on partydance with incredible costumes!
full band
it was really so good.
wow amazing
I think I prefer his spoken word stuff better; has a lot more gravitas when there isn't chuggy guitars under it. But i'll keep an open mind.
I like
Chris Garneau's album.
i thought i was gomna cry little girly tears of joy last night
how did everyone else find it?
also: chris garneau has the loveliest voice.
YEAH WELL SAUL WILLIAMS WAS GOOD TOO
*defends choice*
you're mental.
sorry.
i thought
it wis quite good, but was kinda hoping for some more stuff from la foret than we got (think it wis just clover but i might be wrong)
but jamie stewart looks as terrifying in real life as i had imagined..
yeah it was just clover
i think you may be the first person to ever say that about la foret (not that it's bad). i wanted them to play ceremony, leik, SOBAD though.
I really loved what they did, arrangement-wise. I always like it when bands do it a little bit different from the album...
but
whats wrong wi la foret? i think its pretty good..
getting all defensive like yes_
Yeah cat-g took a picture of him and showed me
he's fucking built. Never expected somebody so "bedwetting" to be so beefy.
looks scariest
on the back of a promise
just those eyes speak death of some sort
