Yes.

That seems flippant...

but yes, an incredible amount of love. Have you got the reissue? Be sure to listen to the bonus disc, it's great!

^ This!!!!!

that bonus disc on the reissue is fantastic!

also check out 'It Was Hot We Stayed in the Water' which is another amazing album.

much love for the microphones!

yep

I cant really think of anything else to contribute though

Yep

Though i think I actually prefer the album Mt Eerie. The first track is this incredibly dark 17-minute tribal drum work out. And then it segues into the one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Also, the sampled tug boat noise he uses on his records is one of the best sounds ever.

I think i prefer that album to

kinda think it could do without the 17 minute intro but it is pretty impressive on first listen, I love how the songs merge into each other, the only bit I don't like is that calvin johnson rap bit. My favourite thing he does, he uses on a lot of songs is this Ooooooooooooooooo vocal harmony sound, I think he must be using some kind of pythagorean ratios or something to make it sound so perfect

*too

Yeah, I don't like the rap bit either.

I doesn't really fit with the sound of the album. But aside from that it's a brilliant album, I still prefer the Glow Pt. 2, but I love Mount Eerie.

I dunno

I actually quite like the rap bit, despite it being completely incongruous.

I really like the rap bit

it makes me want to dance funny!

And I like the sudden change. It's interesting.

I dont mind it that much

its just a shame it comes after the "so your big black cloud will come, and press you to the ground..." choir bit as that is one of my favourite microphones moments and it is jarringly cut off

I also got this today

and Rolo Tomassi's CD EP and Giraffes?Giraffes! latest.
I haven't been this excited about music since In An Aeroplane Over the Sea!

lol.

I lovelovelovelove them.

If you didn't know, Phil Elv(e)rum now records and plays under the name Mt. Eerie (which is also the title of an amazing Microphones album), and he's touring England next week.
If you can make it, I seriously recommend you go.
I saw him last night and I was completely overwhelmed. It was beautiful.

i am so excited for seeing him on wednesday.

SO EXCITED.

and no kids are supporting. and it's a tiny venue. gah. this week is the best week ever for music for me.

mmmm

going friday night, this bodes well :)

I love everything Phil's done.

Massive influence on pretty much everything i do.

I also can't think of anything else to contribute.

I didn't know you play!

Can you send me any?

(please)!

i thought it was amazing when i first heard it

but last year i recommended it to my friend and when we listened to it we were very underwhelmed. still, i intend to put it on later now i remember it and hopefully like it again. through headphones it should be ace

The Glow Pt. 2

is superb.

Mount Eerie is a bit tricky, but worth the repeated listens.

Don't Wake Me Up is pretty good too.

I'd also recommend getting some Mirah as well. 'Advisory Committee' and 'You Think It's Like This, But Really It's Like This' are both fucking great.

i saw the microphones

in manchester phoenix club a few years back, i dont think he tours under the microphones any more, i think he uses mt eerie, ive only ever seen the microphones though so i have no idea what hes like now

ive been thinking recently

phil elvrum has the most ideal life imaginable, living on a mountain/forest/island with his cute/french-canadian/indie-folk-singer/
comic-book-writer wife, traveling the world playing his songs, free reign over k's studio full of vintage equiptment, working on various little projects, I wish I was phil elvrum

ahh.....i though......

....this was going to be one of those “what microphone do you recommend” thread. How disappointing.
