Which band do you like more:

Sunset Rubdown or Wolf parade ? :)

Seriously though: What are the differences in playing or writing with both bands?

bring wolf parade to europe?

any plans for a new sunset rubdown album soon?

err

Why do Frog Eyes get a lot less attention than Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Swan Lake?

When are you going to tour the UK with any of your bands?

Is the consistant greatness of your 'supergroups' due to your own ability or the fact that you know some pretty amazing musicians?

Who gets the final say in what goes into a Wolf Parade record?

Are you heir to the champagne krug's?

and if so why bother with stupid ole music?

I haven't heard the new one, but Apologies was like me/you/me/you aesthetic, was it different on no2 ?

I have a question

When the debut Wolf Parade album leaked onto the internet, you received an email message, basically saying that the mixes were woeful, and that Isaac Brock made a hash of things..... you kindly replied:

"listen.
I'm in Wolf Parade, and I agree completely. We
probably all agree with you. Thanks for the honesty
and all that, and don't worry, it's not being taken
the wrong way. It's a little heartbreaking, yes, for
you have confirmed our own insecurities about the
record, but a little broken heart goes a long when one
is schrelpin' the tunes, bra. So thanks.
That album could be way better, but all this shit
happened and we just needed to get it over and done
with. We made the best mixes we could out of the
tracks we had recorded (we mixed the thing 3 times)
and then all these wheels were already in motion and
money had been spent and blah blah blah. There was no
more time or money. And really, it's just a record, so
buck up you big baby. If we can live with it, so can
you.
Just do what I do: Don't listen to it, ever, and hope
that the next one is better. In fact, just pretend
that this record doesn't even exist and that our next
record is the first full length. We are all really
excited about the next one, which we will do ourselves
and not in a studio. So don't give up on us just yet,
and try to untwist your panties from the bunch that
they are currently in. This record is coming out
whether any of us like it or not.
Thanks for liking the other stuff, though.
Spencer"

My question is, how do you feel about the debut now? and how did you feel after the Pitchfork review? Do you still regret the mix, or are you happy with the commercial success it brought?

I dont understand why everyone disliked the debuts production and blamed brock so much

it is an amazing debut and better than their e.p's

The album

lost sooooo much excitement and energy, that the EPs exuded.

I never wrote the message to Wolf Parade by the way, this was someone else from a forum. But I agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiments.

Brock ballsed it up big time. He turned them from an energetic, exciting, indierock band - to a watered down poppy caricature of themselves.

(all of the above is in my humble opinion, of course)

Ooh, I didn't realise the reply was from Spencer

Yes, I will ask about this.

hmm

Is the creative process that has gone into making the two Wolf Parade records significantly different from that of the Sunset Rubdown/Frog Eyes/Swan Lake records?

who are you influences?

standard but curious..

.

Is his current output sustainable i.e. collaborating and working on so many projects, would he contemplate converging on one band in particular? (Not that anyone here would want him to!)

Btw, saw Sunset Rubdown at TGE Brighton on Thurs and were completely awesome live. Shame about the tight schedule/set length.

ask him who is better sunset rubdown or handsome furs

ask him why wolf parade aren't ver good anymore

lol :(

ask him

why did he bring one of my favourite bands over to play one of my favourite venues two days before my final hand, in dates of the year, where i'm situated 5hours away, making it the most annoyed i've been about missing a concert since i won that DiS free festival ticket a couple of years ago and couldn't go as i had since booked holiday.
then get his autograph for me, cheers.

if its not too late...

ask him why sunset rubdown went from being his solo project to a full blown band, what does he feel he could do with sunset rubdown that he couldn't do with wolf parade.

Ask him what the ratio of normal people to people in indie rock bands is in canada

Bumpy wump

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I'll take a photo of us hugging and send it to you or something.

Can I have a ticket for thursday?

Its a tough question, I know

Last chance submarine

For the first time in ages about an interview, I'm really nervous. Oh God, what if he hates me? :'(

He seems like a decent guy though

I'm sure he'd take it in good jest, as intended.

:D

Eeeeeeeep

Does anyone have any specifically Sunset Rubdown-centric questions? I've been told to make me interview Sunset Rubdown orientated but it's really quite general at the moment and I can't think of anything else to ask.

Not a question as such

Play the UK! Preferably somewhere in the East Midlands. Peterborough would be ideal, if not Cambs or Notts would be acceptable.

THIS ISN'T HELPING ME

Oh God, it's going to be like Clive Anderson interviewing the Bee Gees all over again :'(

Nah

you'll be grand

I'M SO SWEATY

I hope he didn't notice. Really nice guy. After the interview he said "You sticking around for the show? Oh no, you're going to be watching the football", so I said "NO FOOTBALL FOR ME TONIGHT, SPENCER". I think he cried a little out of happiness. Didn't manage to ask anywhere near everything I wanted to though. Hopefully I will resume interviewing in a bit.

What an incredibly nice guy

Up there challenging Charles Bissell for the title of "Nicest guy in indie".

A few titbits for you:

Spencer, Carey Mercer and Dan Bejar have finished recording a new Swan Lake album. Just needs to be mixed.

No plans to bring Wolf Parade over to the UK for the moment :(

No plans to record anything new either.

One awkward moment, though, when I asked him what to expect from the new album, he said "What do you mean? Haven't you heard it? It's leaked". He was very pragmatic about it all though.

I'll probably podcast part of the interview, then broadcast the rest of it when my show's back on air in October. Over half an hour's worth, so plenty to get your teeth into.

Aww

I'm glad to hear that he's a nice guy. I love Spencer.

But no Wolf Parade tour? No plans to record anything new? That man is so lazy.

It's true

He slept backstage during the support act.

but

how old is he?

31

i think

He looks about 12

from a slight distance
