There is not a more evil song than "I wish I was a Punk Rocker"

by it's beautiful symmetry of hypocrisy and ugliness.

Yearning for a vague ethic of miscellaneous rebellion

Vocalising this by aligning 2 movements with pretty much polar opposite standpoints.

THEN presenting it in the most MOR sterile setting possibly ever.

I honestly see it as a landmark piece...It's a defining point in pop culture and sums up its time in the same way Woodstock or Never Mind The Bollocks did, but in such a smelly smelly way

Try reading "smelly smelly" in the voice of Commandant Lassard when he says "many many fine young men and ladies" etc

Yeh sorry...old news but y'knewwwwwwww?

yeh?

It was number one here for 10 weeks

and was the most popular single. It went double platinum. It was played everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Fuck!

Yes it was unescapable when the radio was on

Obviously i'm aware that i can switch over at any time but still!

Wow! You said the "L" word

Landmark

I have not heard this, sorry.

Have your heard Teddybears "Punkrocker" featuring Iggy Pop?

4 chords, 3 verses of classic Iggy words, and the best chorus in a year or so:

Cause I'm a Punkrocker, Yes I Am
Well, I'm a Punkrocker, Yes I Am
Cause I'm a Punrocker, Yes I Am
Well, I'm a Punkrocker, Yes I Am

Not a Landmark

But a sure Classic

well said

i thought this at the time. a punk rocker with flowers in my hair?????
what!?

sandi Thom was on Breakfast this morning

she was horrible. Verbatim quote- 'My new album's about the environment, 'cos thats what everyone's talking about now, and so thats popular'.

Anyone ever seen Punks with flowers in their hair?

i've seen sandi thom live

true facts. a friend forced me to go and it was free and i got free drinks. don't judge me.

Yes there is

Fascination by Alphabeat, who are just a cross between Los Campisinos! and Steps. The girl who lives next door to me plays this song EVERY FUCKING DAY, I have actually never heard her play anything else. It's just excruciatingly painful.

possibly one of the shittest

songs i've ever heard. Not cause it's necessarily musically crap (it is) cos of the puke worthy imagery and cack handed attempts to be a protest singer which are laughable.

it's not too bad

until they start whispering 'say the word' and it looks like the frontman is about to ejaculate in his pants - really awkward watching. (i'm talking about the video btw)

They are the most worrying band I've seen for ages

They look like they might be the kind of brother and sister who are in a sexual relationship and are on the verge of announcing it to the world.

I'm pleased to say

I still haven't heard this song.

I fucking LOVE Alphabeat!

Great pop done well, I say.

I always thought

she wished she was a prawn cracker. You live and learn.

Alphabeat

are fricking awesome, end of discussion. WHOA OH... WHOA OH

That song is brilliant

shurrup

I regret to say that I just watched the video

having never heard the song before.

I hadn't even heard of it til recently in a pub quiz.

It is truly fucking awful.

I hope I never hear it again.

Why do people

keep saying 'what? punk rockers didn't even have flowers in their hair!' OK, the sentiment is expressed in a floppy way, but you're missing the point. She doesn't think punk rockers did wear flowers in their hair, she just longs to be in a time where her generation felt like they were relevant and independent of the rest of society. Which could apply to both hippies and punks.

Not ehwhat.

Forget the lyrical drabness

The most offensive part is the drabness of the tune. Shi'ite! I remember Sandi Thom saying in an interview that her music was "a gift to the world" or some crap. Next time Sandi just give us HMV vouchers and we can buy some Replacements or something...
