No-Wave explosion

This is all great news indeed. Bands like No Age,Times New Viking, HEALTH, Mika Miko etc have really re-energised my appetite for good tunes. Over the last 3 years, it just all felt like the money-men have had too much of a hand in things, but these bands are not so much 'do it yourselves' as 'beleive in yourselves'. Life is good!!! Thoughts?

...(and more recommendations please)

Fuck are yout talking about? I thought No-Wave was a justly ridiculed umbrella term for a bunch of bands NME couldn't be bothered to classify about 6 years ago./

or more accurately

an avantgarde subculture attached to punk originating from 1970's new york and pioneered by bands such as suicide, DNA etc...

liars, ex-models, aids wolf, big black, swans, psychedelic horseshit are all good bands influenced by no wave stuff...

...

Right, I was thinking of No-Name. No-Wave of course, is just unpopular 'punk' bands with low production standards.

Right

Glenn Branca was an unpopular punk artist with low production standards.

...

Most pretentious post of the day. Is that the mythical fifth member of U2?

Well, to me

This is summing up the bands I mentioned. bostockbostock, I take your point....but I really don't see why a term is utilised or created in the past, it can't be used in the same way to describe a collective group of bands relatively accurately in the present day. I totally agree with the bands you have listed as being influenced above however.

yeah i know what you mean

was just correcting the fella above and listing some bands who are influenced by no wave bands rather than saying they were explicitly no-wave...but yeah.

Not even close

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Wave

someone at work is obsessed with it, not totally sure why. some is ok. some is terrible. mostly terrible.

That was No Name

shitgaze

...

I love

No Age, HEALTH, The Mae-Shi, Mika Miko, Abe Vigonda, BARR.. thats just the LA lot...

Pictureplane are pretty cool like a cross between Baltimore beats and Cryastal Castles with a bit of fuzzy punky shoegaze all at once.

Someone mentioned Wildildlife the other day and I really like some of their stuff, its kinda psychadelic/folk/rock kinda.

Rolo Tomassi... do they fit into this random discussion?

any way yeah there is lotsa ace new music out there.

are any of the bands

mentioned classified as no-wave?!?!?

I thought that movement died in the early 80's when Eno fucked it up for everyone! (No New York record)

no,

just influenced by bands who were considered no-wave back in the day

no wave was what punk should have been

and has no connection to the bands mentioned (except they may have listened to them once and not liked it)

:)
