CGE: Excuse me:, MoonCitizen 429-alpha-2209, what are you sonically imbibing?
RtD: I'm glad you textquested me that, SolarGimp 663-gamma-2103. This is Kraftwerk. Over 1 century old, from what is now the Terra-Europa Central Landfill. "Germany", they called it then.
CGE: Fascinating. Might I?
RtD: Of course. Tune your cones to 5364.56. You like?
in 100 years time, human civilization will be a long-forgotten relic of a more innocent past. We won't even have the technology to play back recorded music, let alone the time to spend discussing it. There will still be a few CDs and stuff intact obviously, but they will mostly be fought over by the scavengers for the shiny quality of their backs.
MES is never actually going to die. He looks like he is dead, he probably smells like he is, he definitely sounds like he dead, but he is just going to carry on.
from popular/mainstream culture, i think some uncontroversial picks would include the beatles, the velvet underground, bob dylan and neil young. maybe figures like joni mitchell, patti smith and jimi hendrix as well.
then there are more avant gardish stuff: i think plenty of the john zorn/NYC downtown related projects will be remembered and played.
i don't really picture people raving over crystal castles, los campesinos or animal collective for that matter in 100 years from now.
that i can't really be arsed thinking out fully that goes along the lines of the longer music exists as an art form the fewer bands will make an impact and be remembered.
But there wasn't recorded music on anywhere near the scale there is now.
A more valid comparison might be which artists, albums and songs from now will be remembered in 50 years' time, and if you look at what's remembered from 50 years ago when the modern recording industry got into full swing, there's quite a lot there.
In all [mundane, prosaic] seriousness -- you'd have to say The Beatles, surely?
A small list, to accompany them;
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Bob Marley
Prince
The Wombats
Stevie Wonder
Queen
Pink Floyd
Bowie
The Stones
and
Northern Uproar.
Shampoo

Also: R.E.M.
AY SEE FUCKING DEE SEE!
Kraftwerk.

We could pretend!

OK then, Vampire Weekend.
LOL ?
Yes, LOL.
The Fall
I'm pretty sure MES will still be releasing records after he dies.
A bit like Tupac.
I'm pretty sure
MES is never actually going to die. He looks like he is dead, he probably smells like he is, he definitely sounds like he dead, but he is just going to carry on.

And Daphne & Celeste, obviously.
Limp Bizkit
But remembered in the same way the Holocaust is now i.e; not fondly
Nirvana

Hopefully Pavement,

Don't leave out
Avrääääääääääääm Grääääääääääänt
A band that cannot be ignored.
CRAINE!
Don't forget them.
Craine!
I wasn't on this board then, is there a link to that discussion?
i'd like to propose a theory...
that i can't really be arsed thinking out fully that goes along the lines of the longer music exists as an art form the fewer bands will make an impact and be remembered.
Johnny Foreigner
Youthmovies
This is assuming this board is still going.
Public Enemy
and/or N.W.A
What music do you know from 100 years ago?
I'd wager a handful of songs and small number of acts, virtually none of them popular entertainers nad most of them classical.
So barely anyone. Maybe a few Beatles songs and a few absolute, absolute recognised classics but not a lot.
The Rolling Stones
will still be going.
Yes

Some cunts
will still be banging on about Bob Fucking Dylan, unless the super-humans of the future realise he's complete garbage.
Also, my money's on Metallica and The Sex Pistols.
I'm rather hoping...
that Sister Sledge 'Lost In Music' will be played at my great grandson's wedding reception (which should be in 100 years time..!)
^hero
my great great grandkid is having "More Than A Woman" by Tavares
mine "Freak Out" by Le Chic
or
"Brick House" by The Commadores
lol

'Town' could be the new national anthemn of the future...
Oh, so you hope that 100 years from now
People come to their senses and realize what tripe Dylan is and that Metallica ISN'T the biggest joke since Kiss?
It'll probably go down that way given the way civilization is heading.
OASIS
fuck buttons
Maybe in the future
every band will be called fuck buttons
i love em though
Wot no
Led Zeppelin?
i'll second Led Zeppelin
a band for the ages
The Clash
a few other of the more important punk/hardcore bands
Miles Davies.
Beach Boys maybe?
