wicked.
I was only there 24 hours, but you can't really complain when those 24 hours include Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Balck Lips and A Place to Bury Strangers.
The atmosphere was totally rad too due to the amazing weather.
Quoted:
Times New Viking: "This one's for Heath Ledger, if he's in the audience."
Pissed Jeans: "I'm sorry."
RE:
"This one's for Sir Paul McCartney, who is in the audience tonight"
Absolutely Fucking Amazing
That is all.
probably
the best thing to have ever happened to me.
it were sodding brilliant!!
s0d 0ff!
it was ok
it was great
i am now broken.
Incredible
I'm annoyed that I can't remember LSV's improvised closer properly. Something about lambs to the slaughter at Camber sands, can anyone remember how it went, it's bugging me!
I got a video of it
will look it up for u later
"All the little lambs down in camber sands, walking to the slaughter hand in hand
is that right?
i may get it tatooed on my arm so a spelling correction would be appreciated
That's it!
Cheers!
Best weekend of my life.
Sleeping for a week now though...
Meat Puppets
cacked all over everyone else! They were definitely my favourite. Many other bands were good though. Strangely enough. Also it was boiling all the time and there was a crazy barman who had been working for far too long smashing glasses on the floor and talking nonsense.
Some highlights for you there.
Look in the programme right. Have they photoshopped the small guy from Hot Chip and made him look even smaller? Is someone taking the michael?
That was my 11th
ATP and was by far the best. Amazing bands. Amazing people. Amazing times.
I'm so tired I could cry.
Yes..
it was notably awesome..
I didn't realise Caribou were so f*cking amazing live. Really enjoyed Times New Viking, Meat Puppets, Ween, No Age and Les Savy Fav.
Was a little letdown by Sebadoh who really didn't appear to enjoy being there!
Now to the small matter of a final year uni exam tomorrow morning :S :S
^This
On a weekend featuring fantastic performances from everyone, Sebadoh were painful to watch, I think I left the third or fourth time they stopped to soundcheck again.
there were some long pauses
but I thought when they did play they really nailed the songs. I think they were a bit under time pressure and had to cut the set short indeed, Lou Barlow said at one point Festivals are great but they like to take their time. He also said it was their last show of a three week tour and I guess they wanted to make it good and make sure they sounded alright. Given that Ween didn't actually play for three hours maybe Sebadoh should have had another half hour ;-) I just thought it was great to see all three of them doing their thing like in the old days, switching positions and all that...and if it takes a bit longer between songs, then so be it...
So far the best festival I have been to
The diversity in moods (always posetive) from night to night and general generoisty and approachablility of the majority made it really fun. Wether it was sitting in the pirate ship or sweating at the club it always felt right.
Complaint though, Camber Sands should really sort out the Air Con upstairs... it was actually quite dangerously hott.. especially during acts such as Les Savy Fav and Los Campesinos.
In short, I loved it... the food was really good value as well which shocked me as festivals are never known for fairly priced foods.
My faviroute aspect as usual at festivals is the lounging around in the sun... being in your own little bubble.. as soon as I saw 'Welcome To Brighton & Hove' a lil part of me died as my bubble burst :( O well
Im deffinatly going to Nightmare Before Christmas now.
we're sorry about the heat
but there wasn't that much we could do about it. thanks to everyone though for being supercool and taking it in their stride. wonderful atmosphere from everyone throughout the whole thing :D
uk festival goers
complaining about the heat? It doesnt get hot in the UK! Come to a summer festival in Oz and enjoy the 40 degree plus weather... its actually quite invigorating.
it was indoors
and not a lot of ventilation
Pissed Jeans made my weekend
the rest was pretty decent too though.
dirty projectors
were my favourite, despite the dripping sweat in that heat i stayed from start to finish. amazing.
deerhunter and no age were ace too.
the weather totally made it, it was just like the first one again, i fucking love atp!
part 2 next...
Sebadoh
were fucking amazing. one of the best weekends of my career
Loads of great bands:
Man Man, Harmonia, Bon Iver, Of Montreal, Les Savy Fav, Los Campesinos, Hold Steady, Hot Chip and others too. Super good weekend.
Sounds great
def going to do a sick with excitement about next weekend after reading all this.
Yep good!
Howlin' Rain = my fave of the weekend.
I also enjoyed Jay Reatard and Pissed Jeans. Black Mountain were too boring even though I like their records. Sebadoh seemed fed up with each other but were good for nostaligia's sake...Gaffney! What a cock!....Of Montreal were pretty good....I watched about three songs of Ween but got tired of their self-indulgent muso wankouts...I went to see the Hold Steady on the recommendation of a friend and thought they were the most awful yank insincere bullshit I've ever seen....Redd Kross were a cool party band for the friday night. Otherwise, I didn't see much else. Great people, great weather...the dj's should've laid off the occasional difficult tunelessness in the pub and stuck with the party! Interesting note - I heard Fleetwood Mac being played loudly from at least six different chalets over the weekend.
first one i've ever been at in camber sands
nothing could prepare me for Tim Harrington, i was hoping to see him on the beach collecting shells but alas. Caught the end of Caribou and seriously wished i had seen all of it.
What was with No Age finishing so early, did they come on early as well?
So much super fun.
Super-bed, three matresses, blankets and (an) Arab Strap. Perfect end to a weekend.
Caribou were awesome live!
I had to leave near the end though cause i felt REALLY ill :( sucks to be
That instrumental they did after Melody Day was BUFF! SO FUCKING BUFF!
Tim Harrington spat in my friend's face.
Apparently it was quite refreshingly cooling!
I got some of that too
But mine had a distinctly Jack Daniels-esque tinge to it. Yum!
The whole weekend was fucking great.
It's already taken on a kind of nostalgic glow in the memory... Nice to meet whoever I met, sorry if I bit, insulted or kissed you.
Oh, and Deerhunter
were the best band I saw all weekend.
deerhunter were ace
but i didn't see enough of them, despite plans to do so!
I was disappointed with the set
too much new stuff.
'Strange Lights' was absolutely BRILLIANT though! :)
The only real lowlights were
someone telling my friend "when are you going to grow into that dress, eh?". Horrible cunt.
and us getting rammed by a belgian lorry on the way down delaying our check in by an hour.
But there was soooooo much else to like.
A nice little dananananaykroyd shout out by No Age, oldish man from the next town over from me (clydebank!?) saying that the only pills he was on all weekend were beta-blockers. Also how fat women tempt him with ecstacy at parties and asking his friend, if he wanted to get his nephew any drugs for the weekend, would he have to pre-order them. Does anyone know this man?
finally winning a prize
pub quiz, best team name..one minute snorting coke off a wheel bin, next min shitting my self...the irish guys telling bono jokes,so funny nearly followed through again.and declan djin dalliance in queen vic.
shit and shine ....
band of the weekend for me.
You forgot being greeted in Victoria bus station by sniffer dogs
My personal favouite moment was singing "dananananananaDUNCAN!" to the Batman theme and him appearing magically from the depths of the dark night with a big smile and a really ace tshirt.
Good god...
...it was incredible.
My 4th ATP and the best by miles. Unbelievable how much difference the weather made, but meant I didn't really watch any bands I didn't already know for fear of sweating giant holes in my clothes...
Hot Chip, Hold Steady, Les Savy Fav, Meat Puppets, Jay Reatard, and Of Montreal killed it.
Sitting round a fire on the beach at 4am on Sunday Morning with a bunch of people + Black Mountain while Tim Harrington went on the search for more firewood was also pretty exciting!
Not the best ATP for me but it was good
Friday:
Firstly, did I just get served by Jamie Summers? Was that him on the ticket stall?
Jay Reatard sounded good (3 flying V's!). Vampire Weekend were terifically dull. why o why has noone talked about Shit and Shine??!!! Geniune contender for set of the weekend, (where the hell is Mug x3?). They were the heaviest sounding band for sure and I loved them without hearing much stuff before. Definately gonna check out some records. Spoke to the dude from the band and he recommended "Cherry".
Saturday:
Times New Viking sounded so much better live than on record. I like the fact that they play pop songs and have their guitar set for noise. Good stuff.
Got a perfect view of Howlin Rain right infront of Ethan Miller and it was a treat to see someone shred to the max, he can f**king play.
Les Savy Fav was hilarious for us because my mate got given that Pink Panther suit from Tim after he had been wearing it, and he proceeded to put it on and wear it for the rest of the night. It was returned to its rightful owner the following day I believe.
Sunday:
The day I was really looking forward to. A place to bury strangers were ace, liked the moody lights and then the stobes too.
Pissed Jeans were good, as were Wooden Shjips (I like the fact that they're songs are about 9 to 10 minutes long). New No Age songs sounded great, chatted to Randy after, he's a dude.
Finishing with Girls Against Boys (I couldn't get a decent view of Meat Puppets) and they played Learned It!!! One of the songs of the weekend, a classic and great way to see it out.
ello
yeh i was doing tickets for a bit so could have been me. think i was wearing a llama farmers shirt at the time?
I think
I stood next to you for most of the LC!...then it all got a bit messy at the end...
Yer
Shit and Shine were immense. That well dressed guitar dude looked out of place next to the blue bunnies. Both 'songs' were great. Just wish the set had been longer!
Howlin' Rain were also quality. I liked the bassist constantly having to watch his back for flailing Ethan Miller mid guitar solo. Funny. The Vanilla Fudge style cover was ace too. Here's their version if you haven't already seen it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aWFaZgwerY
Agreed on TNV (sounded really close to the records I reckon!), Pissed Jeans and Wooden Shjips. Wasn't that impressed with No Age but Meat Puppets were the best. Les Savy Fav were better than last year too. Harmonia were top quality too. Again though I wish they had played for another half hour at least.
I saw about five hours of Ween in two days and loved basically all of it. Although the sound was miles better at Camber. And they played Roses Are Free there.
A fantastic weekend.
Highlights..
Shit and Shine were my main reason for going. They didn't disappoint.
The Black Angels, Deerhunter and No Age.
Meat Puppets, Could of been a car crash. But were incredible.
My hangover and general fucked upness is now gone, and I'm ready for the weekend.
Amazing
Highlights for me were Fuck Buttons, Wooden Shjips, Howlin' Rain and the bits I saw of Deerhunter and Shit and Shine.
I was a bit disappointed by Pissed Jeans.
The other obvious highlight was meeting so many great people...the heat in the venues meant more time outside the Queen Vic talking bollocks and laughing. I had the time of my life on Saturday and Sunday night/Monday morning in the pub was immense.
Fucking Ace.
Highlights were No Age, Times New Viking, Los Campesinos!, Fuck Buttons, Les Savy Fav & Harmonia.
