I've been listening to Drive Like Jehu and Slint all day. I know they don't sound a whole lot like each other but I think they've got that whole kind of mathy thing going on. Any recommendations in a similar vein?

Drive Like Jehu rock

other mathy indie type stuff I'd recommend is.
Faraquet
Sharks Keep Moving
Pele
American Football
cap n' jazz
and although I know their not strictly math but their awesome anyway, Shellac

Thanks

will check them out. Already love Shellac.

POLVO?

Polvo!!!

For more recent stuff in a similar vein, I recommend:

Owls
Faraquet
Antelope

Polvo was already said

i will use my invisibility for good.

No you won't

you'll just look at girls in toilets.

Second Faraquet

and Rumah Sakit below (couple of albums are free to listen to on Lastfm at the moment). Also...

Volta Do Mar
The Mercury Program
Tristeza

if we're going that math

then Don Cabellero. American Don. NOW.

Hmmm.

Rodan - http://www.myspace.com/rodanrusty (get Rusty. If you like Slint, you'll love these guys)

Shipping News - http://www.myspace.com/shippingnewsfans (you'll drool over this so so much. Jason and Jeff from Rodan went on to form this band. Get Flies the Field and rock the fuck out. They go from real pretty tracks like Louven, to MONSTERS like the human face. Check out the riffage at 1:25. Both tracks are on the myspace)

honey for petzi - http://www.myspace.com/honeyforpetzi (most instrumental. mega underrated band from Switzerland. They have some quite electronic influenced stuff, but they have the math)

Dianogah - http://www.myspace.com/dianogahband (mostly instrumental. listen to what is your landmass)

Rumah Sakit - http://www.myspace.com/jimig2 (instrumental. anything by these guys. They're off the chain)

Unwound - http://www.myspace.com/corpsepose (i mean, seriously. how good are these guys?)

June of 44 - http://www.myspace.com/giugnodel44 (more good stuff from louisville. it was pretty much the place for this stuff in the 90's.

I'll think of some more.

Seconding of Unwound and June of 44

The former, in particular, are amazing. Their last album (Leaves Turn Inside You) is pretty Slint-esque. New Plastic Ideas is also pretty awesome.

I 2nd june of 44

im surprised they aren't better known

*3rded rather

much better than slint

second

Rodan, June, Shipping News, Unwound, Dianogah.

Also, worth listening to HOOVER - who are fucking incredible. They're not really math, but listen to them anyway. Also, reiterate Sweep The Leg, Johnny - one of the best bands of all time in my mind. Get everything you can that they've ever done.

There was a load of other great math around 1999-2001ish, like Geiger Counter. Worth checking out if possible.

Btw, none of this is really early 90s - but it's all good.

KARATE

.

I'd say Karate where more bluesey than mathy

still bloody good though.

Juno, Codeine

Some good shouts so far

Erm

Minus The Bear.

Oh wait

I didn't realise you said early nineties.

In that case I'm clueless.

Faraquet's

record was 2000. But if you're having them you may as well have Medications too.

Cinemechanica

Their album "The Martial Arts" is sexy math.

www.myspace.com/cinemechanica

I'm loving..

Cinemechanica! Fucking brilliant!

cinemechanica

were stunning live.

I've been listening to their

new 3 track double drum recordings a lot this last week. They're awesome! Check out the live video on their Myspace page. You have to click the view my videos link (near the photos one at the top of the page) to see it

I put those dudes on in Norwich last year

and about 10 people came, it was criminal.
One of the best bands I've ever seen, totally intense and tight as hell.
