Playing shows
For promoters in your area, getting lots of people to come every time, sucking cock, bribes etc
hmm yeah im doing that ;)
but i want to try and get some around the uk, with a touring band. any suggestions barr the cock of suck would be helpful..dirty boy
Doing gigzzzz
Being asked. Any bands my band played with have been because they asked us to go on tour with them. Any bands that play with my band are usually cos I asked them. Uhh just cos we did loads of DIY gigs to start with and played everywhere. Supporting bands can be completely gash anyway, depends who they are.
in birmingham at least it works a bit like this...
a) you become one of the biggest local draws with a promoter, usually 50+ for each gig... you then make the 'list' of bands who are asked to support the touring bands to bulk up numbers...we have done this, it is ultimately a numbers/finance thing for the promoter, but is a nice by-product of having a decent fanbase.
b) you get called up at the last minute because the crap nme scene band they have paid through the nose for is not shifting enough tickets.. promoters will then try and rope in a mismatched band to sell as many overpriced tickets as possible.... we have done this- DON'T
c) you are in one of the few cocksucking, 'scene' bands, usually some offshoot from a band that was almost successful in the 90's, bizzarely, your 'management company' still has decent local connections, so you get given supports disproportionate to the size/quality of your band. we have not done this.
best- elvis perkins.
worst- 900 bemused Alabama 3 fans.
email
the promotors who put on the gigs! weve got loads of good supports this way with bands like , twilight sad, part chimp, wolf eyes, youth movies, duracell, 65daysofstatic and a few others that slipped me mind. worked for us so am sure itll work for u? we have no manager, no label, no agent, no nothing and we managed it :)
I'm opening for Blitzen Trapper soon
I just e-mailed the venue.
Dont just e-mail them once, e-mail them regular and eventually something good will come up. I've opened for Peter, Bjorn & John and Jim Noir in the past too !!
we have landed a few good openers
im thinking full tour support.. for 10-14days..
weve never landed
a full tour support, but we have played a few dates with bands on tours, just not the entire tour, we just email the promotors, get on one of them, then once ur opn one contact more promotors of other dates and tell them u already on on some dates, this might swing it your way, worked for us sumtimes
