Think of any?

After just listening to A SOng for Starlit Beaches by Yndi Halda I'm going to throw that into the ring.

you start the thread with an average post rock band?

oy vey! I nominate:

Beat It - Michael Jackson

You suck

I'm actually tempted to add at least one of the other songs on Enjoy Eternal Bliss to the list.

Theyre far from average in my eyes also.
But hoy hoy.

Beat it is good, but perfect?

I think you'll find that

that's actually Adam and the Ants Prince Charming

oh vey! jackson 5 "a b c" crushes "beat it"

+ pop is too big of a universe for "beat it" to be it's brightest star.

sorry

but if it works for you, that's cool

^ this

But then again what song off Thriller isn't perfect?!

er

'The Girl Is Mine'?

^ yep

This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads

Long Island- The Wave Pictures
Grievances- Daniel Johnston
The Beach- Meho Plaza
The Leanover- Life Without Buildings
Internal K-Dart- Pavement

etc.

ooh

198d- At The Drive-In

Just Like Heaven

by The Cure, perfect pop song

Yep

Although I love both Dinosaur Jr and The Cure

I never really got that into Dinosaur jr's studio version, especially lou's vocal bits. I do love the way dinosaur play it live though. But the cure version's plays like a dream right the way through.

that wave pictures song is good

except for his fucking voice. God, it's so arch and annoying.

pretty much every kings of convinience song.

they're all so perfectly crafted!
esp. A Riot In An Empty Street, the production is beyond perfect.

Cleaning Each Other by Dananananaykroyd

i have recently been listening to this song on repeat. it is absolutely perfect.

You speak the truth

Not as good as The Greater Than Symbol And The Hash live though!

you also speak the truth

The Greater Than Symbol And The Hash just has that extra Dana' OOMPH! for live shows :D

On Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel

Perfection is difficult. Eight minutes of perfection is really difficult. But here it just sounds effortless ...

A man at the peak of his powers. Shame he fell off.

That'll be "Oh" rather than "On" there ...

Song = perfect; spelling = less so.

I think

Two Headed Boy (Part 2) is pretty flawless.

i was just about to post this

i just listened to this for the first time in ages and i almost started crying. Seriously.

thirded

NMH's finest hour (or 3 minutes whatever) imo. Passionate and makes you want to cry and strangle soemone at the same time

the perfect song

does not exist

and life would be boring if it did

I disagree

Surely if the perfect song existed, there would be no point in making music anymore.

If a song was perfect it couldn't be improved on, and surely the point of being in a band is to make music as close as possible to, in your opinion, perfect.

Fortunately

Everyone disagrees on what the perfect song is, so there's at least 6 billion possibilities. And then people's opinions change from second to second, and so you need to multiply ... BIG NUMBER!

Mind you, if I'd written Billie Jean, I'd have retired. Shame Jacko didn't.

^ this

perfection is subjective anyway.
But if someone feels a song is perfect then it gives everyone else something to endeavour to. It doesn't mean everyone hould quit and listen to that song over and over again.

i'm going either

up the junction by squeeze or last caress by the misfits. two of my biggest obessions, so maybe a little bias, but in terms of setting melodies to chords, they're both outstanding.

i agree with ringer

but a song i feel is as close as possible is there she goes my beautiful world by nick cave

then creep by radiohead and piazza new york catcher by belle and sebastian

I love that Nick Cave song

Perfect for walking around in the sun with it blasting away on the headphones.

Piazza New York Catcher is also excellent but a bit B&S-by-numbers.

This Is The Shirt

by Two People

i was thinking

the other day that Trading On Past Treasures by Held By Hands is almost ridiculously perfectly formed.

Also, Monkey by Low is absolutely untouchably good. Everything about it, from that drone at the start to the precise harmonies, is perfection.

And Unfinished by Mineral. The entire feel of the song is spinetingling and it basically perfects the whole build-up/cathartic-release thing. The bit where the guitars get massive near the end is so powerful it almost hurts.

Good call

with trading on past treasures

High Noon

By DJ Shadow, post punk guitar samples and heavy trip hop beats one of my favourite tracks of all time and it's always the one I talk about when anyone asks me about Dj shadow

candle in the wind

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived

from the new Weezer album.

Just...yes.

^this

That song is Weezer's best song ever.

I'm not sure yet if this song is amazing

Or the worst thing I have ever heard in my life

The former

Undoubtedly the best thing they've ever done.

^^^^^

The Winner Takes It All

by ABBA.

listen to the arrangement and the performance of that song. It is the best pop ballad ever written, and it will never be topped. Ever.

^this

One of Us is pretty damn near perfect too.
As are Yes by McAlmont & Butler, Envy by Ash and The Mourners Of St. Paul's by Liam Frost

Yes

Yes!

Monkey! Knife! Fight!

by minus the bear, or maybe drilling by them too.

If it's Minus The Bear

the thermals - no culture icons
the cure - inbetween days
neutral milk hotel - holland, 1945
ryan adams - my winding wheel

simply thrilled honey

orange juice..

A Pair Of Brown Eyes

is fairly perfect. Especially so if you read the background to it and begin to realise just how much is crammed into the simple lyrics.

It's astonishing really - shame he's an alcoholic junkie.

*

My Bloody Valentine - To Here Knows When

Built To Spill - Else

Not a big fan, but that song is absolutely perfect.

Asa-Chang & Junray

Hana.

Perfect.

I think...

Dear Chicago by Ryan Adams.

I don't really think that, but it's pretty impressive.

Obvious, but true.

The Get Up Kids

Ten Minutes

Spoiled by Sebadoh

ny snow globe by Rachel's
When Sorrow SHoots Her Darts by Set Fire To Flames

Barkmarket - the visible cow

I'm not trying to be wilfully obscure, I'm really not. Some of the pop songs mentioned are really good. I just happen to think this is perfect.

Pavement - Carrot Rope

Field Music - A House Is Not A Home

are the two immediate songs that spring to mind.

Hotellounge

by dEUS

Oh and

Here by Pavement

I've Got You Under My Skin

Frank Sinatra (arr. Nelson Riddle)

'Come On Eileen' by Dexy's Midnight Runners
'Zombie' by The Cranberries
'Cut Your Hair' by Pavement
'No Diggity' by Blackstreet

its hard...

but at the moment my perfect song would be:

Refused

Tannhauser/Derivè
