I have the album "The Young Machines", and it's very good indeed. Although as kind of a twist, the lyrics are mostly about him with his (I think?) best friend's lass - see the song "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend". It's interesting, anyway.
They have a girl singing, like Imogen Heap kind of style. A bit. The music isn't synthy, but it's made up of loads of interesting little noises. Toys, water, and all kinds of junk they just found around. It sounds like a craft project. The album is called "The Only Thing I Ever Wanted".
This is already my album of the year, it's incredible, the glitchy pop production of jimmy tamborello and the great lyrics and heartfelt singing of Ben Gibbard, all from one guy! In fact, those two are going to have to pull something extra special to beat this record, full track here:
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Age+of+Rockets/_/avada+kedavra
But I second The Notwist, DNTEL, Plastic Operator and Mates of State. Obviously Hot Chip 'n all...
Try DNTEL's song 'Breakfast In Bed', which has Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst singing - It's the most Postal Service song in the world. Not surprising, really... Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Q85Obp_5s
dntel's 'this is the dream of evan and chan' is even MORE postal servicey considering it actually has ben gibbard doing the vocals on it? ;-) [/pedantics]
a Postal Service song without the Postal Service line-up, but yeah, anyone who likes them should hear all of DNTEL's stuff, I reckon. You can listen to the track here: http://www.last.fm/music/Dntel/_/(This+Is)+The+Dream+of+Evan+and+Chan
are amazing....one of their songs was used on the OC but no one recognised it so they are still small and wonderful. They're Ben Gibbards favourite band (well, they were 18months ago in an interveiw i read)
Her Space Holiday

"tiger my friend"
is a hell of a lot better than "The Only Thing I Ever Wanted" in my humble opinion.
Hey,
I didn't even know it existed. I'll have to track that one down.
I guess they're not so similar, but I always listen to them when I'm in the same mood as when I listen to the Postal Service.
Good sentence structuring.

Say Hi
Styrofoam
^ Say Hi
Definitely
That new Cut Copy album's pretty similar
in terms of pretty singing and disco beats but still sounding very, very indie.
If you describe it like that, yeah
But listening to it I would say it's not similar at all to The Postal Service.
I Was A Cub Scout...
...the British Postal Service...
Album is very good.
Try
Plastic Operator's album Different Places.
