If you were to support your local football team, who would that be?

I mean literally where you live now (regardless of where you grew up) what's the geographically nearest football team to you?

The only reason I ask is 'cos it struck me that weirdly at the moment I'd end up supporting Arsenal (used to be QPR for a while, might have been Harrow or Hayes for a while too)a and Arsenal are the precisely the sort of team whose supporters are told to "support their local team". But I don't reckon there's any clubs (including non-league btw) nearer to me than the Emirates...

Arsenal are only a couple of miles away

next nearest, Dulwich Hamlet/Fisher Athletic (seeing as they're groundsharing)

I never knew Fisher Athletic were London based.

I always assumed there was a small town called Fisher somewhere...

Sheffield United

or Crowborough Athletic.

MK Dons now.

It always used to be Luton Town, who I went to see now and then when I was younger.

Don't know -

I live in E3. Any idea?

looks like

Leyton Orient? 2.2 miles

oh

boo :(
thanks hun

it could be worse!

your second-closest club is probably millwall :/

Orient for me too

then West Ham probably.

Corby Town

I do support them but don't go as much as I should!

pretty much the worst ground ever

and a crap chairman.

Yes it is

terrible one of the reasons I don't go! They are meant to be building a new one but I can't see it happening myself!

Yeah the rumour is that you are

with help from the council, more than ours will ever do. The fear is if we end up having to groundshare at any new stadium with you, that would be horrible.

I can't

see a ground share ever getting of the ground. There are to many dick heads on both sides that would ruin it! You are more likely to share with Diamonds than us!

Wycombe Wanderers

(but I have a West Ham season ticket and now live in Norwich)

this website is pretty useful

though it only has professional teams:

http://www.hopewiser.com/cgi-bin/proximity.cgi

at uni:

0.59 miles CH Sheffield United Football Club
2.59 miles CH Sheffield Wednesday Football Club
5.61 miles L2 Rotherham United Football Club
9.75 miles L2 Chesterfield Football Club
9.75 miles L1 Chesterfield Football Club
12.12 miles CH Barnsley Football Club
18.32 miles L1 Doncaster Rovers Football
20.18 miles L2 Mansfield Town Football Club
22.69 miles L1 Huddersfield Town AFC
27.87 miles L1 Leeds United AFC

(i still have a norwich city season ticket though)

No more results to display

Northern Ireland discrimination that is!

It would be Grimsby Town

I live about 10 minutes walk from Blundell Park. I drove 300 miles to watch them lose 2-0 in a gutless performance yesterday in Hereford. So yeah, don't support your local football team. It will only end in agony and crushing defeats :(

growing up Arsenal were my local team

now i live in South West London...

1.94 miles PR Fulham Football Club
3.17 miles L2 Brentford
3.25 miles PR Chelsea Football Club SW6
4.16 miles CH Queens Park Rangers
8.17 miles CH Crystal Palace
8.99 miles L1 Millwall
9.65 miles PR Arsenal
12.62 miles CH Charlton Athletic
12.70 miles L1 Leyton Orient
13.02 miles PR Tottenham Hotspur

i think mine is

leyton orient, followed by millwall, then west ham...i've actually been to see millwall afew times since ive been here, its funny.

2.82 miles Millwall Football
2.86 miles Arsenal Football Club
3.00 miles Leyton Orient Football Club
4.12 miles West Ham United Football Club
4.93 miles Charlton Athletic Football Club

Manchester United PLC

I can see the top of Legoland from my flat, think it's about two miles away. City's used to be pretty much equidistant, but going the other way. I can often hear when United score, can sometimes even make out the deadly silence of the opposition daring to put the ball in the net, too/

QPR apparently

maybe i will...

either altrincham eff sea (recently relegated from the conference, no less)

or oxford, but nah. i can't forget my roots, man, my roots.

I lose.

Truro City are my local team. Argyle are the closest league team (about 40 miles).
The nearest Premier League team is Portsmouth 180 miles away.

Yeah, I know what you mean about Arsenal supporters

When I went to Manchester Uni I was always asked what team I supported. I got bored with saying I didn't like football because this always lead to faces of utter disbelief.

So I ended up saying Arsenal, as that was who everyone at school supported and this led to jeers until I pointed out where I actually came from.

In short, if I were a football fan I would be perfectly in my rights to be an Arsenal fan by right of my place of birth and a straight line to the nearest club.

erm, whatever cardiff's football team is called?

but it's a well known fact that all the cool people round here support rugby, so i don't really care.

Tamworth F.C.

Finished 15th in the Blue Square North this season...

Summer friendlies against Leicester City and Rangers!

The nearest Premier League team would be Aston Villa who I supported when I was younger (but aren't too fussed about now).

>

5.03 miles CH Bristol City Football Club
6.09 miles L1 Bristol Rovers Football Club

Damnit.

Turns out I grew up closer to Bristol Rovers' (current ground) than Bristol City's Although Rovers were playng in Bath when I grew up so actually I was technically supporting my local team. Although my real local team would have been Yate Town. I think City were the better choice.

heehee

i'm guessing some variant on "you're just a small town in Bath" must be sung to rovers fans sometimes by city

MTFC4life!

2.22 miles L2 Macclesfield Town Football Club
8.73 miles L2 Stockport County Football Club
14.45 miles PR Manchester United Football Club
14.72 miles PR Manchester City Football Club
15.70 miles L1 Port Vale Football Club

this is my house

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a315/harrru/home.jpg

so I'm fairly sure it's Sheffield Wednesday.

lots of nervous people outside already.

I know where you live

I'm going to stalk you or something

jealous

and nervous

Well

Either Slough Town or Wycombe Wanderers. They're about the same distance apart. Not sure about non-league teams, though.

At uni it'd be Nottingham Forest. Notts County are about 200 yards further away.

Oh, turns out Slough Town are non-league

I always thought they were in Conference South for ages, but they're actually two below that.

the conference is non league too!

indie football for lyfe.

.

oxford united (who i do support)
swindon town
reading
wycombe
cheltenham
mk dons
watford
luton
northampton

Damn

Mine would definitely be Arsenal

.

Middlesbrough FC

For life.

I follow them and their success already -

but i'm not an avid supporter - although, they've been doing really well of late, so I may start going to some games.
Oh, MK dons.

.

You support Middlesbrough?!?

.

Hmm that would be MK Dons then!

*slap*

Ummm.

It would be a close call between Partick Thistle and Rangers as they seem to be pretty equidistant from my flat.

It's the green and white of the east end for me though.

Well

Beckenham Town I assume...I used to play for them...

And if training grounds count then I do support my local team...Crystal Palace

oh wait...where i live now

Hibs beat Hearts by 0.08 of a mile.

I believe

QPR or Brentford.

Watford

but I'm at uni so York City

Bromsgrove Rovers FC

I can see the floodlights poking out over the metropolitan Bromsgrove skyline from my bedroom window.
