It could be turned into that fun game where you alternate stages at a fest but with venues!
And I haven't had breakfast yet and you've made me hungrier.
I'm going, can't wait
buble & sqeak you say? interesting....
what's the bangers & mash like?
As am I
Not sure about the Bubble and Squeak malarkey though...
Health are....
stupidly brillaint live. i had the fortune to play with them last year in Bolton's dog and partridge!! i didn't know how the fuck to take them at first - but oh my - their chaos is just something else!
might go this sat in manc - if i peel myself away from boozing & bbq'ing!
enjoy!
Yeah sod that
I might have a kebab while I'm waiting at the polling station.
Are there still tickets for this?
All the hype about their live shows has tempted me, even though I know nothing about them.

if you like liars/black dice/good music then go for it.
and if you like HEALTH...
You might like the HEALTH//DISCO 12" we're putting out: www.myspace.com/toughloveonmyspace
I feel cheap for doing that. I'd feel even cheaper if i had a bedroom full of unsold records (not that i will have, it's HEALTH ffs)
now that
was GREAT.
my ears = broken :(
oh yeah
to expand:
the HEALTH drummer is absolutely stunning. amazing. best drummer i've ever seen possibly. he is INCREDIBLE.
i totally have a man-crush on the bassist/sometimes singer guy.
the support bands were very good. Pre were really fun but they could have done with the vocals being a bit more minimalistic really as her voice can grate a bit.
the skeleton band were REALLY REALLY good, but there were so many people speaking which is unlike the luminaire and it was really annoying. their harmonies are akin to those of dirty projectors and their songs are just really great sounding. i look forward to hearing some recorded stuff.
fantastic night and well worth six quid!
Skeletons'
Lucas album from last year is well worth picking up, one of my faves from 2007.
So...
I decided to go after all, not normally the sort of thing I'd go an see but was actually really f'in impressed. Loved Pre, and the Skeletons were excellent in parts, like a cross between Dirty Projectors, Menomena and Yeasayer but some of their set was a bit too outre for my tastes. And as for HEALTH...well, John Stanier has some competition for the best goddamn drummer I've ever seen. Not overly won over by the actual music, but in terms of energy and performance and all-out-chaos they're the most impressive band I've seen since O'Death in the same venue last November.
Thanks for the heads up Ibzo.
no worries champ
i think i might have been standing next to you during Pre??
i'm still shocked at how good the HEALTH drummer is...i just stood there with my mouth open for a minute during one of the songs.
ok
i thought that was pretty boring. PRE was probably the highlight. i don't get it.
i really enjoyed it
all 3 bands were great, i had such a good time. That Skeletons band in particular, the two side guitar players nearly had me in tears. I thought i was good at guitar! I will be investigating them further like some sort of indie FBI agent.
Health just blew me away, their interpretation of the record live is amazing. The drummer was a fucking beast on those skins. So cool. Probably the best 6quid i've spent in a long long time.
HEALTH
were incredibly
absolutely incredible
plus their new songs are perhaps even better than their old..
oh yes!
that one they played...it just constantly built up in tension, and it was so groovy! The one long haired bass guy played the drum on. Probably the highlight of the set for me.
^ Agreed.
A really wonderful live band. As someone who attempts to play music, it's very, very rare that I see a band who make me want to give up even trying. HEALTH made me do that this evening...
shut up
no it didn't
Shut up King.
It did.
Then I went home and listened to lesser bands and remembered how much there is to beat in the world.
All three bands were ace
Pre were fun made flesh.
Skeletons were a nice surprise.
HEALTH were absolutely awesome.
I had a nightmare last night in which 50 Boris Johnsons relentlessly pursued me to the sound of thundering drums and broken, crashing guitars.
sleep
I was too tired to enjoy it fully unfortunately, about 10 minutes into HEALTH the relentless noise surrounded me like a warm blanket and i drifted off for a minute of two. the sound was so deafening it actually imploded and i could barely notice it. ridiculous.
HEALTH
were good, not great but good. I saw images of rotating neon-coloured angular patterns throughout.
and they played some new tracks right? one of them was excellent. the drummer is a machine.
Bubble + Squeak and Mash
surely that's too much potato?
my ears are broken
but HEALTH and Pre were both fucking ace. If I had any money I would've bought the entire merch stall...

ace night
Thought Pre put on a good show but that one-level-screaming got on my tits a little bit, and couldn't help thinking that if it wasn't in vogue at the moment, they'd be hurling themselves into whatever was. y'know?
and it was hilarious to see speccy indie trainspotters biting their lips and nodding, gently nursing shameful boners.
Skeletons - Fucking ace...Just completely their own band...some mad textures and a weird almost feral grubby feeling to it all
HEALTH - Wowlerskates...Especially Zangief - thought the drums were going to give way every other song. Brilliant.
"Eastern Promise" - Very dissapointing...served up on a completely pointless 3-tier plate frame...seemed to consist entirely of Iceland frozen produce, deep-fried and accompanied by random sauces (Chibese food goes neither with
a) garlic dough bites and
b) Oilve Oil and Basil dip
Bubble and Squeak - Really good. Has gone up by apound since my last visit, however now you get thicker bacon and lovely half-mashed new potatoes rather than just mash. The bernaise was a touch separated, but you can't fault them for this on such a busy night.
Just enough chard to offset the creaminess of the sauce.
^ eh?
best gig of
the year for me so far. The new stuff was really impressive.
I love Skeletons, I had no idea what to expect, althought as someone mentioned the talking was rather annoying as I was stood right at the back near the bar and it drowned out some parts but fun night all round.
