what doesn't make sense???

i'm just asking if anyone knows any bands that play any sort of music like these bands do???

Yeah, but Animal collective and the Klaxons

aren't really similar in musical styles.

Are you looking for bands that encompass all of those genres or just some of them?

as i said, Any bands that

are of the same genre

i'm not saying my band tastes are of the same

genre..i just mean that on my own i have tried very hard and i can't find any band that plays anything of the same sort. the closest i've found is lovvers.

Lovvers suck apparently.

Have you tried Cutting Pink with Knives?

They are noise experimental. I am not sure about the other bands you have listed (apart from Klaxons, animal collective) but aren't Psychedelic horsehit noise expermimental?

Can't really think of a band that are similar to The Klaxons. Probably get shot down for this but 'Metronomy' may be considered as being similar

They got slated big time last week.

A lot of people saw them play The Bullit Bar, during the Camden crawl.

well personally i dont' care how others think of them

i jus think for myself. crazy but true

If I find out that a band are a bunch of arrogant cunts.

Then I decide there and then that they are not worth bothering with.

Perfectly feasible. And true.

no sorryi i'm just being a silly

but seriously i've never heard them/seen them. so i'll wait til i decide. i do hope they turn out gtreat though as they're the only UK act i've found worth wasting time on....

try this lot

www.myspace.com/crimesofthefuture

It's my band. Not sure if it will be your cup of tea tbh, but it was worth the jag!1

Cleckhudderfax are pretty good. And pretty weird.

http://www.myspace.com/cleckhuddersfax

lovvers

i like them! they stayed in my flat once as a felow Glasgow promoter had nowhere to house them, were lovely guests.

Noise experimental?

Really?!

Wh are we talking about, this is getting confusing now.

If you are referring to my comment about Psychedelic Horseshit then I wasn't too sure. I heard some of the tracks on there site, sounded similar to Coachwhips. And you are right, CPWK are nothing like them.

I think it's time I got my coat and left this thread.

THEIR

:`(``````

Surely they're just saying that..

..they want people to name bands like any of the above.

if you like...

animal collective... panda bear

unicorns... sunset rubdown, wolf parade, islands, handsome furs

times new viking... maybe check out a place to bury strangers, but im not sure..

ya i know the canadian band.s//

i'm not try8ing to be a prick..it's just i'd like to know of some UK bands that are doing such brilliant stuff..i'm sure there must be some but i can't find them....

yuppers that's all i want!!

i'm moving to the UK and can't seem to find any bands to suit my taste! i'm just hoping that someone on DiS knows of sometthing that i'd like :)

i never said they werent' theoGB!!!

i'm saying bands "like" the ones i've listed. i know you know that. dont' be silly.

It was implicit in the way you structured your post...

I wasn't being sarcastic: I've never seen Klaxons or heard them speak.

so does this mean there are no

good UK bands :'""""""(

Yeah, at 8:00 in the morning on one internet forum...

only a handful of people respoded to your question.

This DOES in fact mean that there are no good UK bands.

LOL

try searching lastfm.

far more fruitful an endeavor.

Psychedelic Horseshit

But they aren't British either.

ya it really does't help re-mentiioning

an non-uk band i already mentioned.
sorry i'm not normally so rude, but i'm just really adament to find a good UK band and i'm having a hard time and it's stressing me out..

..

i don't know why you're stressing out about the music :)! as mattj and placid_casual have listed some excellent bands - do check them out. also, once you get here you'll be able to go to more local gigs from seeing said bands. there really are some amazing bands out there, you just need to have faith.

and lovvers are alright! the sticks and broken arm are highly recommended. along with dethscalator.

I didn't read your post

Like I would do something like that...

because i'd like to know some

"local bands" that are good.
right now i'm pretty dpressed about moving to a country with no good music, but i know there must be some, just hidden, and i know DiSers must know about it!!!

.

"i'm pretty dpressed about moving to a country with no good music" --> stay in canada then...

so it's bad that i have hope and that

i'm asking others for leads to find it???

Not really

The only English bands I like at the moment are:
The Sticks
The Rebel/Country Teasers
Black Time
The Hipshakes
Dan Melchior und Das Menace (He lives in America though)
Shit + Shine
Epideme
Lovvers

Also:

The Shitty limits
Bilge Pump
Cowtown
Broken Arm
Sceptres

Sadly due to a number of factors

The smallness of our country, where bands cannot develop in enough space.

the press and media coverage, always looking for the next big thing, build them up and knock them down.

The Misplaced belief that Rock and Roll was invented in this country. It has bred a certain sort of insular arrogance. I know as soon as a band lists its influences as Beatles, Kinks, Weller, Smiths and Clash exactly how dull and formularic they will be without even hearing them.

The links between fashion and music that continually grow stronger. Being fashionable does not make your music any better, it only ensures you will soon be out of favour.

Dues to these factors I think the uk music scene has got increasingly stagnant

Lovvers are

great, and not a bunch of arrogant cunts.

If you like Klaxons, you may like Late of the Pier. There are some similarities.

I disagree

The UK is only small in comparison to America, outside of London there is plenty of space for bands to "develop" undisturbed.

It probably has more to do few decent labels and a general lack of interest in this kind of music. I don't think it's coincidental that 4 of the bands I listed have released the majority of their music on US labels.

Most of this only applies to mainstream music.

Totally agree about The Beatles etc though. I know they're, liek, supposedly important and all that, but I wish they'd just fuck off out of the public consciousness. They've been, and continue to be, responsible for an ocean of insipid imitators.

'Eh we're the next Beatles mate donchaknow.'

'Fuck off and rot in your own faeces.'

you speaketh the truth

"The links between fashion and music that continually grow stronger. Being fashionable does not make your music any better, it only ensures you will soon be out of favour."

ok

check out

buttonhead (sound a bit like deerhoof)
kite season (a mix of animal collective and jamie t!)

I saw a UK band once

they where pretty good.

Here's some

Living in a Box, Johnny hates Jazz, The Blow Monkeys, Hue and Cry.

You'll love these.

thanx

I thought I could think of some then started typing and it didnt work thanx for rescuing me.

There are a lot of good bands but they'll rarely get attention

because they appeal to a narrow spectrum and when you have less population that spectrum's narrowness translates to lack of fans who can fund your endeavours.

I'd second choices like Bilge Pump and Buttonhead from those listed above.

Have a look here:
http://www.myspace.com/silverrocketclub

Pretty much every one of the bands on their friends list are worth listening to. Or you could by a SR 100 triple CD thing. 71 amazing bands and then we're on there too.

Good call

with the Silver Rocket comp. A wealth of great stuff there.

aye

up the SR!

No

There are actually no bands in the UK anymore.

Ever since the NME started writing about the inaudible sound wave scene every band in the country has split up in an attempt to make even less noise than their rivals.

Typically the NME have moved on and are now hyping negative inaudible soundwave where bands actually commit suicide in order to avoid never making any sound ever again. The trendy scene bastards.

I haven't herd about that scene

does that make me a scene expert? or scenster?

Yes, there are loads:

TheSoundofBarstewards + Sapdunk's band.
That band that meths was in.
Royworld
The Daves

umm..as you didn't list the first two

actual bands' names i can't listen to them.
but those other two are atrocious and i do hope this is a joke????

Sound like blah wha?!

Listen to:
The Exploits of Elaine, Hreda, Eduard Soundingblock, Shield Your Eyes, Silent Front, Theo, Mirror Mirror, Perhaps Contraption, Geisha, Astrohenge, The Naciente Quartet, Three Trapped Tigers, Akira, Falenizza Horsepower, Queen of Swords, Stig Noise Soundsystem, Roll Call for the Second Site, Instruments, Fighting Kites, Charlottefield, Exit Calm, Lakes, Twocsinak, Bilge Pump, Trencher, CPWK, Hey! Colossus, Liberez, Alexander Thomas, Tropics, Cove, Mirimar Disaster, Rolo Tomassi, Epic 45, Vessels, Freeze Puppy, House of Brothers, Immune, Palehorse, Manatees, Glissando, Xmas Lights, Pocus Whiteface, Cyril Snear, Wait For Coniston, All Dark Mornings, Shit and Shine, We Are Carnivores, Action Beat, Crowns on the Rats Orchestra, 50ft Panda and (shady JAGGGG alert) Nitkowski.

Work through this lot and you'll have a broad (but biased and incomplete) picture of what's going on in t' cuntry's indie underground. Also if you decide you unequivocally hate all these bands you are dead to me;~)

Plus, off the top of my head:

Dananananaykroyd, Copy Haho, This Aint Vegas, This Town Needs Guns, Tropics, Johnny Foreigner, Jonquil, Beak, School of Language, Frightened Rabbit, Twilight Sad, Joeyfat, Comet Gain, An Emergency, Pennines, Wooderson, [jag]Held By Hands, Shittalker[/], Souvaris, Birds Of Prey/Delay, Free Diamonds, Spin Spin the Dogs, Lords, Polaris, Mob Rules...

Yeah - "UK underground" sux right now.

Indeed it does.

No choice. No variety. No talent. Bear jokes!

(+1 for mattj's choices too)

Okay I forgot the exclamations.

I saw them last night with Shield Your Eyes. They're achingly 'now' in their dance punk ways, but easily the most intense and hardcore-influenced out of any of those bands. Pretty much tear Foals a new a-hole in terms of pure phrenetic propulsiveness.

Woah there...

Their myspace page made me feel like I was starting to trip. Can't listen to audio in work though; will check later.

yep

it's a real killer but i've seen worse myspace pages.

Reminded by the techno thread:

Worriedaboutsatan.

what was that shit about lovvers?

i must have missed the original post on that camden crawl thing.

<i'm replying here so that instead of my post being lost in the middle of the page, hopefully someone will spot the post and point me in the right direction>

It was my fault. And I have been trying to

find the thread but to no avail. Basically there were a lot of comments saying that Lovvers weren't very good, and their fans were arrogant. i put 2 and 2 together and came up with 11.

My apologies.

I'm sure they are. I shouldn't have made a judgement

by reading a few reviews.

I think that someone mentioned that there were a few idiots in the crowd at the Bullet bar gig.

Sorry about that, I shouldn't have said it.

haha

so there were some idiots in attendance at a gig in london? and a gig in camden during the crawl at that?

i find that really hard to believe...

;-)
