I am a very late comer to the alter of AC DC. I think watching the "Live At Donington" DVD cemented it for me- that one concert totally blew any lameness that took place at "Woodstock" off the map. "Live At Donington" made me cry tears of ashtonishment. What is it with AC DC? They seem to be a force of nature.
have you seen the video of them playing to
FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE in Moscow with Metallica, the Black Crows and Pantera supporting ?
No, but I just recorded a "Classic" something or other on VH1
It was a show they played with Bon at some university in Britain, hosted by some schaltzy MC, who get's totally ground into the dirt by the band everytime he tries to say anything- another amazing concert though.
The Moscow show- is it available? What a powerhouse line-up- just getting into Pantera a little- have you ever seen pics of Pantera from when they were a "Glam" band?
yes
http://www.play.com/Music/MusicDVD/4-/934470/For-Those-About-To-Rock/Product.html
The glam Pantera albums aren't even that bad as far as that sort of thing goes, it's just hilarious because within about 3 years they were touting themselves as the toughest hardest band in the world.
The Metallica footage is the best.
have you ever listened to Rose Tattoo?
the AC/DC who never made it?
if you ever feel the need for more Acca Dacca and you've got all that's available this band sound *exactly* the same (but somehow a little bit shitter)
I'll check them out
:)
Ummm... Rose Tattoo were massive in Oz..
which is where they are from.
When I saw Glam Phil; I almost fell off my chair
Thanks!
*are
and, yeah, they are amazing.
May I blame that on being American?
Or just take the hit and admit that I am a grammatical troglodyte.
is is just as grammatically correct as are
just depends if you refer to ac/dc as a single entity or as a group of individuals.
i think.
Exactly, I processed it as plural
but lord knows my English is awful.
*my English are awful.
and spelling tres badd.
Then it would be are...
;)
AC DC?
Meh.
that's what i used to think
:)
When I visited Madrid a few years ago
I got a bus into the mountains, and on the way there was a sheer cliff face with AC DC carved into the stone about half way up.
The fact that someone felt it necessary to go to that much trouble instantly makes them amazing :-)
live in madrid
coming soon to dvd. i'm producing it :)
Watch the opening sequence to "Live At Donington"
It's unbridled rock glory- steal from that- a lot!
Good luck on your project!
aye
i'll check it out.
btw did you check out the PLUG ME IN dvd from last year? lots of great rare + live stuff on that too (and yes i did that too!)
No, but my Son has requested it several times.
I guess I'm worried about spoiling my Donington afterglow.
Words carved in stone do seem weighier
I've never been out of the States but Spain is on the must go list.
That dvd bored the trousers off me
Angus is a crap soloist but he still spends most of that dvd soloing. They are a great band though and i'm sure it would be great if you were actually there watching them. Powerage, Back In Black and High Voltage are best.
Angus is a wonderful machine
as is Malcolm
Angus seems BORN to soloing!
Keep in mind his constant stepping out time and head banging (due to an obvious neck of steel) and sprinting about or flailing on the floor Curly Style. Most guitarists can't play a 8 note runs standing stock still.
ACDC are the fucking dons
...and my all time faves. I could talk about them all day long; Powerage, Highway To Hell, Back In Black, High Voltage, etc, etc. What you see is what you get, they sing about good times, shagging women and getting drunk. Love it. You can hear their influence in nearly every contemporary rock band going. Angus's and Malcom's twin guitar attack makes it all tick.
At the time
I thought AC/DC were crap, and lumped them in with all hair metal/hard rock crapness. Appetite for Destruction (g'nR) made me revisit my theory and decide that I couldn't just dismiss the whole genre because 99% of the bands are shite. Turns out, AC/DC are an exception, too. I always loved early Aerosmith, though. Loved the first Van Halen record....
AC/DC are awesome because they back up their adolescent nonsense with good tunes.
Touch Too Much
And Have A Drink On Me are two of my all times faves. Hell I love 'em all even the stuff on the Razor's Edge!
I agree with Porter.
.
am i the only person who doesnt like ac dc?
I'm sure not
I used to dismiss them as kind of trashy and silly all the while there was a little part of me saying wait a sec, these quys rock, but I felt they were too low brow for me and just tried to ignore them. Then I saw them on SNL one night and was just floored by the mightyness of their sound and the economic way they pulled it off- it seemed so effortless. I just stared at the screen trying to figure out how they were making that fat, fat sound.
its the pure egde
just amazing ha
stupid costume amazing guitaring
i think they practice a lot
seriously
they are without doubt the most monumentally tight live band I have ever seen.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
That Donington was a great day, Metallica played an awesome show as well, was just before they released the black album, 80,000 drinking cider from 2 litre containers...pissing in the empties and launching them into the air.
Fave acdc gig tho has to be when they re opened the Hammersmith Apollo a few years back, was lucky enough to get in, LET THERE BE ROCK !!!
I'll look for you the next time I viddy it
No, I am honored, thanks for sharing that.
I guess I would have endured piss showers to have been there.
Here's to JIMBOBJONJONES!
The 'DC
are awesome cos they do
DIRTY DEEDS
DIRT CHEAP!
I prefer music like ACDC
to any punk or post punk or any of that boring stuff where the point is to be unmelodic and shit and stuff.
But I prefer The Black Crowes.
Black Crowes' singer is a natural
not many of those
