Basically it would be one person each on accordion, zither, and glockenspiel/bells/maybe some sort of broken piano and effects, and then two people on various loose drums/toy instruments/found percussion. It would also need preferably one male and one female vocalist to sing in an I am thinking at the moment high and damaged manner (though I'm flexible on what the vocals would sound like).
Anyone in Manchester interested in forming this? I have basically all the instruments already just lying around, and I can play accordion to a degree of what other people seem to think is proficiency.
Awe...
So sad,
I always wanted to be in a band that had precussion - I would be a mean tambourine player given half the chance.
Sounds like a cool idea though - kind of like Slow Club?
so essentially...
efterklang?
i'd probably be up for that. if i lived in manchester.
No, more loose and triball-y
and herbal
don't forget the herbs.
i wish i lived in manchester, this is so exactly the kind of band i want to be in.
bah!
if only you lived in glasgow, my band works to a very similar idea (minus the broken piano) would be great to bounce ideas off each other
Ooh wow
What are you called?
.
the second hand marching band
we have some (very, VERY basic demos on last fm) there are now 20 of us and all the demos were recorded by 2 people.

your idea sounds amazing, i think we are more towards the pop side of things going by what you have said, but instrumentation sounds very similar. looking forward to hearing what you make.
yeah
the second hand marching band
.
this site scares me
ps)
i want a zither
hi Steff!
scared now? =P
.
TERRIFIED!
i will meet you soon, pinkie swear, how was mogwai last night?
very, very loud.
to the point where earplugs were somewhat redundant. Really good though, new songs sounding ace. How did the move go? If I can get it off work, I'll be at your Edinburgh gig!
Yeah definitely more poppy I would say!
But still, you guys are good! Would love to hear what you sound like with 20 members.
I'm back in Manchester in June
I'd love to have a go at something like this! Although having never really played percussion before I'm not sure how much use I'd be but I'd be certainly up for trying
Cool
When unfortunately I leave Manchester in June for the summer because I AM A STUDENT but as long as you can keep some sort of basic time and have a good eye for found objects you might see about that could make cool new sounds then you could be a percussionist yeah!
Awesome
Well if you still need people in on your return in September then give me a shout :-)
HI!
Can I be in it?
OK thats another percussionist then
Oh PS I'm going to call the band 'Pigeon Kill'.
ooh, good name
i only have a shit yamaha keyboard
i doubt this is of help.
x
No, shit yamaha keyboards ftw!
Seriously, I love shit yamaha keyboards so much.
Or wait exactly HOW shit are we talking here
because its the mostly really tiny ones that are so rubbishy they transcend their shitness and become awesome.
it has the star wars theme as its demo
and lots of neon buttons.
i think its a good/shit one from the 90s...
let us know if you need a hand, i'd be happy to help!
I think that could actually fit in yeah!
I'll get it contact if this looks like actually happening.
No no no no no no no
No no no no no no no no
sounds good
live in manchester and got lots of weird instruments collected from my trips to Malaysia and about the way such as... Japanese glockenspeil, a balaeika, tabla, djemba, mandolin....let us know if u get anything sorted, would be interested.
Oh wow that sounds perfect
Definitely will do!
Sounds like Man Man with an accordian
...erm, and a female singer...whahever... good luck MM!
This sounds ace
I would love to be involved if it happened. I play drums (well), guitar and ukulele (badly).
Does this mean you're based in Manchester?
This is the kind of thing
I'd love to do, but I've sortof got finals this term. I can sing, but it tends to be quite low..
this is pretty fucking weird
i was thinking along the same lines about posting something similar here today after reading about The Scratch Orchestra a few years ago. They were a group of experimental musicians from the late 60's, it was mainly improvisational stuff they did, they were a really eclectic bunch of people; lecturers, brick layers, truckers, librarians, soldiers, academics and the like. i think it'd be great if someone got together something for the 'noughties'.
hahaha!
you're in love with that broken piano in our practice room! i had a band in the first year called '...his dark marching band'; it was kind of a noise band but with horns, accordions and stuff! it never took off, but i made some awesome demos using various plug-ins on the colleges recording software! you should look into investing in loop pedals and such!
erm...
... i'm in manchester way. i'd be up for comin down havin a knock around. can do voice/guitar/harmonica/bit of banjo. i also got a uke but can't play it. dunno why i told you that.
