I've never heard one of their records. Normally i'd tell people to start at the beginning, but it's a bit difficult when a band have over 100 records of various kinds. Is there one/a few that i'd be best starting with?

The Peel Sessions box.

thank me later.

any of the best ofs?

"50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong"
"458489 A Sides"

I like both of them.

Once you got these

get Grotesque (After the Gramme) and Hex Education Hour

Start with either

Hex Enduction Hour, then This Nations Saving Grace.

Also, while i'm at it...

Where to start with Yo La Tengo?

^

Cmon, though, just buy one of their records. You take all the fun out of it.

there's a thread on YLT somewhere on 'ere

go with I can hear the heart beating as one and And then nothing turned itself inside out.

Both are sublime indie-pop.

Best to avoid the best of as its kinda misleading.

what this guy says

thats how i did it, and it worked.

this ^

I think there is a rule

that you have to wait at least a week since the last Fall thread was started

it is 9 days now

cos of the attention the book is getting

there really is no excuse not to know where to start

just open a newspaper, young person, there will be a nice guide to it all, and a scary photo of uncle rank curmudgeon, telling us that darkies are alrightyknow, and much more friendly than musicians, and how Napoleon is the sort of role model youngsters need thesedays

Don't feel bad, you're not alone

and they might have over a 100 records but I'll be damned if you see any in the shops.

PS- I'll buy MY 1st Fall record based on recs from this thread.

Really?

i think you'll find them in most record shops. Not extensively, but i think the majority of music emporiums will at least have a copy of Fall Heads Roll and 50,000 Fall Fans...

anyway, for pity's sake, hunt down the Peel Sessions box set already.

Yeah

I own no Fall records and 50000 is the one I always see.

As Mentioned Above

You can't go wrong with The Peel Sessions Box, but is it out of print now also?

I'd suggest

Live at the Witch Trials and then 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong.

Both are fantastic.

I got 50,000 Fall Fans Cant Be Wrong.

First disc = good. Second was crap I think.

I don't understand how they're obsessible, The Fall. They've got like a really good idea but they tend to use it a little too often.

Hahaha....

You've never heard a fall album! Oh dear 'loser', you really don't know your music do you, who's the fool now eh you prick? Just try badmouthing me one more time, go on, i dare you.

Well.

He's probably a bit more grammatically sound.

looks like its being re-released in may, but wait around and you should be able to get it for cheaper than that. amazon fluctuate their prices so much, i kept it in my basket for a few months and eventually they put the price down to £16.99
definitley worth the money and a fantastic introduction as you get a comprehensive overview of their history.

And another thing......

Twee loser is such a gay name is it not? Why have you got a gay name, cock-muncher? You know in music, twee is one of the worst things you can be, and loser is just....self-explanatory. What do you look like Mr chocolate tunnel explorer, do you wear a cardigan and cords? Ooooh i bet you do. Have you got a nice stroky beard and like to play with your boyfriend's glockenspiel on cold nights, sipping/felching ovaltine? Mmmm, tasty. Do you like to visit charity shops at weekends, Mr doughnut puncher? How many badges do you wear Mr. Marmite miner? Hahahahahahaha!!! Had enough yet or do you want more? I bet you want more don't you, you filthy animal! I'll understand if you want me to stop, it must be devastating to be attracted to someone new, when you've already got another 'twee lover' at home........Great Scott that's it!!!! Why don't you drop a letter and change your name to twee lover? It's still gay (probably gayer) but it's got more street cred. You'd be all pimped-up dude! Pimp my username, i think there's definitely a market there. Seeya!

my god...

you are a fool.

Get the War of Intelligence the fontana years.

Its got all of their best stuff. It cost me 10 quid and it was the best 10 quid that I ever spent. It has got 16 tracks on it and they are all good. And this is the best bit, no-one actually seems to know this. I think I am possibly the only person in the world with this album.

For some reason i cannot figure, the Falls fontana albums are not much talked about??????

Stuff like 'High Tension Line' and 'Freerange' is easily their best stuff in my opinion.

50000 Fall Fans Can't be Wrong

is definitely the best place to start, but thire more "accessible" albums are

70s Fall: Dragnet
80s Fall: I am Kurious Oranj
90s Fall: (at a push) The Light User Syndrome
00s Fall: The Unutterable OR Fall Heads Roll

Now go and Enjoy!

.

Good starting points include:

458489 A Sides
Hex Enduction Hour
Grotesque (After The Gramme)
The Real New Fall LP (formerly Country on the Click)
Live at the Witch Trials

The Peel Box Set

I heard they were sending that outta space as a reprensation of what earthlings can do.

"I've never heard one of their records"

If you've seen the old Vauxhall Corsa ad where they're playing hide and seek with cars then you have, that was 'Touch Sensitive'.

And...

They used "Theme From Sparta FC" for bits of Match Of The Day .

google

"where to start with the fall?" and drownedinsound

"I hate to do this"

well feckin don't then, search the forums for the countless other where to start with the Fall threads.
