along those lines, how about boards of canada, god is an astronaut, four tet et al... sigur ros also tends not to intrude too much, cos the words dont make any sense so as not to derail your train of thought...
as i say i listen to everything from mogwai and mono to 65daysofstatic and pelican when working.
throw open my back door and listen to the sounds of nature.. the birds, the buzzing of bees, the sirens, the helicopters landing a mile away, the rumbling planes coming in to heathrow(new and improved with terminal five, for all your holidaying needs)
PRAM I would wholeheartedly recommend for this purpose of revision, which I have thus far not got round to. Good luck to us all.
Here's a muxtape that I made to do my revisings. It's not so... ambient. More... fun.
It does feature Mark Lawrenson! And the voice of David "Salad Fingers and Jerry Jackson" Firth! Plus I made reference to "Rudebox" by Robbie Williams in the title. Enjoy.
perhaps try Terry Riley, John Cage, Steve Reich or Francis Dhomont.
Also, if you like this slow, mostly instrumental stuff maybe Tortoise, The Books or Slint, off the top of my head.
i've been trying to get the terry riley album - rainbow in curved air?? i really like the whole minimal classical thing so i will check out those other things.
having an energy spurt after I HAVE BUILT A TREEHOUSE! I HAVE BUILT A TREEHOUSE!
That, combined with excess amounts of banana, is the only way I stay awake whilst trying to memories the Ionic Charge on all the elements.
the microphones now- think i need more high tempo. obv boards of canada is my favourite music ever. stars of the lid i often listen to to sleep. gregor samsa - beautiful but words. i really want to check out johnny greenwood - just trying to find it at the mo. holy fuck am seeing tomorrow night. sigur ros again - great stuff but i know it too well. spazz, scholastic deth etc. sound like they're not what i'm looking for. xiu xiu and architecture in helsinki - again too many words.
stuff like trans am / the field - more up tempo - energy giving stuff????
as it brings your heart beat down to the right level. so no drum'n'bass then...
my teacher gave me mozart. i prefer jonquil. i listened to his album 'sunny casinos' on last fm today and it was really relaxing
But I find listening to music with a good beat great when Im revising, maybe its the monotonous of it. So I like Simian Mobile Disco or Daft Punk, just on quietly.
Alternatively, Portishead and Kraftwerk are both great.
If you want more relaxed stuff, classical music is always good, the There will be blood OST is beautiful, or I really like revising to Devendra Banhart or Bright Eyes-Im wide awake its morning
dance music is actually pretty good.
i did like to listen to minimal techno but the stuff on last.fm is sometimes a bit annoying.
i like simian mobile disco as well
Ex slowdive members form an alt-country band, record an album with lots of pretty female vocals and slide guitar. Bam! One of the best records of the 90's.
when revising...but as mentioned by wecancreate, Dirty Sexy Money says it's for sex as well. In my opinion revision isn't better than sex but maybe I'm just not revising in the right way...
stop making me
feel guilty about doing 2 hours in 2 weeks off.

grizzly bear
or the microphones, Air is a good one or Night Ripper on repeat for some reason makes you really productive.

Revising to Girl Talk?
That would probably drive me insane.
i listen to all kinds of instrumental stuff when working
along those lines, how about boards of canada, god is an astronaut, four tet et al... sigur ros also tends not to intrude too much, cos the words dont make any sense so as not to derail your train of thought...

Stars of the Lid
Message to Bears
Goldmund
Balmorhea
Gregor Samsa

those
are all very calm and chilled, mostly instrumental. Ambient/Acoustic/damn lovely.
Bodysong
by Jonny Greenwood does the trick.

There Will Be Blood OST is good too!
i like to
throw open my back door and listen to the sounds of nature.. the birds, the buzzing of bees, the sirens, the helicopters landing a mile away, the rumbling planes coming in to heathrow(new and improved with terminal five, for all your holidaying needs)
yeah it's fun. but it works a treat
i used to
listen to Geogaddi by Boards of Canada a lot, especially when revising for maths exams.
Holy Fuck
and
Sigur Ros
work for me
is that
cause of 'music is math'??
i think i must have thought so initially
there's something about the time signatures that helped me concentrate though.
Spazz
Scholastic Deth
Charles Bronson

boards of canada (as others have said)
the octopus project
errors
my bloody valentine
godspeed
explosions in the sky
anything new I haven't got round to listening to yet
'cause then I'm not distracted by singing/playing air instruments and I don't end up writing the song words in the margin.
If you like Arvo Part...
perhaps try Terry Riley, John Cage, Steve Reich or Francis Dhomont.
Also, if you like this slow, mostly instrumental stuff maybe Tortoise, The Books or Slint, off the top of my head.

I am personally going for
Xiu Xiu and Architecture in Helsinki
oh and occasional spurts of I'm From Barcelona when I need waking up.
when waking up?
surely you'd swape Architecture in Helsinki with I'm From Barcelona, or have I been listening to the wrong songs?
nothing beats

gorecki
i like
dirty three
boxhead ensemble
low's 'songs for a dead pilot'

Mojave 3 - Ask Me Tomorrow
