at school, there were sweaties in rock music, schemies into chart music and dance music. and.. that was it. and noone really identified themselves with those categories, they were terms of abuse.
i know we shouldn't take a few rich kids on a bbc website as representative, but there does seem to be more tribalism.
i think it might just be a bit more identifiable now. I mean at my school we had skaters, grungers, chavs, trendies and all stuff like that. I think it might just be that the differences are more defined now.
At my school I wouldn't really say that that applies, if you were to judge by those definitions on that website my friends would be indies, basketballers, skaters, emos and nu-ravers. but if you called any of them one of those things they'd just be offended, no one wants to be part of these groups apart from idiots...
If you're a complete loser dork at school who nobody likes or pays any attention to, you had, until now, 3 ways of 'stepping out from the crowd and being noticed': Goth, Emo or An Hero. Now they've lumped the NME indie-subculture in with "fashionable" trends for rejected teens who couldn't quite handle all the makeup involved with the whole goth looking like a ghost wearing a binbag thing.
Look at her face and listen to her voice. A few years ago you wouldn't have looked at her if her face was on fire. Now she has similarly retardo'd boys looking at her 'cos she's got hairspray on and right jeans.
what is an indie I keep seeing the word indie like indie films on sky and indie music what is an indie....
It made me laugh cos I didnt think the frase 'an indie' even existed it just sounds silly like somat your dad would say.... and mine did
given that she says her favourite band is razorlight at the time, and now they barely feature on her top artists, im guessing she used to be into razorlight and got a bit of a clue later on.
+She listens to X Ray Spex
+She listens to Sonic Youth
+She listens to The Sonics
-She has a ridiculous taste in eyewear
-She listened to Carla Bruni last week
-She listens to artists once each. Is she actually interested in music, or just in having a fashionable last.fm chart?
-Compatibility: Very Low
and you're 24. And I'm 20. Now look who's the paedo? Taking impressionable young men to notting hill and plying them with Spanish beer with odd aftertastes and Wipers albums.
but like i said several things, her mates look younger than 17, shes a typical 15 year old kid in the video, she likes razorlight on the video but they arent in her last.fm... etc.
the other one that seems semi normal is the mosher. yes he's a bit teenaged, but he's not the indie girl. she's the sort of person that makes me wish for an ethnic cleansing of the middle classes.
* I listen to anything that’s easily downloadable.
* I like alternative music… whether it's in or out of fashion. I like real music.
* As my music habits change, so do I.
* I like to listen to my music on my iPod, Mp3 Player, Mobile phone, Satellite and Cable systems, through Windows Media Player/Real Player/ iTunes and online streaming.
hmm
The one point where she had a chance to redeem herself:
"What's the most random CD I own? I own a Ronan Keating CD".
- and she blows it.
In fairness
he probably DOES speak to her in ways Razorlight could only dream of
With an Irish accent?
oh dear
poor girl
this will haunt her
Oh yes.
If
she watches it back in 10 years she'll kill herself.
"Ah'm urr Indy. Arr an so yooneek. Ah'm urr eemoshunell paintar und i only lusten to 'low-fi' likes RAysorlites"
she really reminds
me of someone on here. a guy from here.
i won't say who. that would be nasty.
As long as it's not me, I'm fine.
you shouldn't have said that
I'm laughing like a drain cause I know exactly who you mean.
this isn't fair :D
me too :D
At least, if it is who I think it is, it's funny. I'm gonna take it like that anyway. Its funny.
Funny.
yeah
I know exactly who you're talking about.
:D:D
Sorry
i don't know who you're talking about!
i want to know :(
I think he means a friend of mine
But I don't think he'd ever get filmed saying he like Razorlight though...
i had an inkling
but i don't know him well enough to conclude such a thing.
It is a pretty funny comparison in fairness
:D
:')
From 'Scene Kid':
How do I (social) network? (Myspace, Bebo, Facebook, MSN)
* By using screen names that combine ‘cool’ band names or lyrics with my own, like ‘Clap Your Hands Say CLAIRE’ or ‘SAMisonfire.’
:D
haha
its actually true though
JACK Your Hands Say CLAIRE
Oh my.
its a sign
CLAIREclaww
&& SAM SUICIDE
I hope these people get injured
^5
.
I found that to be informative
Good work BBC
mis spelling of "independant"
on the definition.
You have misspelt misspelling
touche
what is the point of the Them?
thing? to point children further in the direction of being a type rather than themselves? slightly odd no?
.
"If it looks cultured, its indie."
all kids like to fit in
its pretty harmless really, just quite funny
it's the kind of thing
that makes me glad being indie wasn't invented when i was young.
it does seem to have changed
from something to like to something to 'be'. kids nowadays seem a bit more obsessive with their tribal membership?
it does seem that way
at school, there were sweaties in rock music, schemies into chart music and dance music. and.. that was it. and noone really identified themselves with those categories, they were terms of abuse.
i know we shouldn't take a few rich kids on a bbc website as representative, but there does seem to be more tribalism.
i blame the internet.
Im not sure if i agree
i think it might just be a bit more identifiable now. I mean at my school we had skaters, grungers, chavs, trendies and all stuff like that. I think it might just be that the differences are more defined now.
There was still cliques and stuff.
You're seven years
younger than imagechange.
Nah
At my school I wouldn't really say that that applies, if you were to judge by those definitions on that website my friends would be indies, basketballers, skaters, emos and nu-ravers. but if you called any of them one of those things they'd just be offended, no one wants to be part of these groups apart from idiots...
It's quite simple
I wish they would all die.

:D
an indie
lol. this is pretty funny. i love people trying to define youth movements from the outside
I thought the point of indie was that you can;t actually define it because it's so independent?
I was wrong.
I would hate to wear my nans clothes.
also LOL at the scene kid one
being linked with hardcore :)
'Dean - Hoodie'
:D
My Dad asked the other day
'What is an Indie' so I might have to show him this hehe.
This is the first time
I've ever heard the term "an indie". You're dad is way cooler than me :)
well he said it in the context
what is an indie I keep seeing the word indie like indie films on sky and indie music what is an indie....
It made me laugh cos I didnt think the frase 'an indie' even existed it just sounds silly like somat your dad would say.... and mine did
:D
"Obviously raves, but if you're not old enough it doesn't matter… you don't have to go to raves to be a Nu-Raver."
"i'm jord and i'm a nu-raver"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/switch/them/jordan.shtml
why, bbc, didnt we have this in the 90s for grebo and romo?
The best bit though is:
"I just don't want to conform and be the same as everyone else."
oh shit i think i have her on myspace!
jesus.
link pls
+1
all i can provide of use
is a last.fm page
http://www.last.fm/user/flashgordon__/
not bad really.
haha i thought it was her!
my mate talks to her. i hope for his sake its not her
OK im 99% sure it is her
do i tell my friend or not?
tell him.
it's a bit of a shame she's exposed herself as a bit of a wang - 'nme is the indie bible' :(
as i said below i think its a year or so old
and im guessing she was desperately playing up to it all... so its not awful, just as you said shes a wang.
If it's a year old:
why would she have The Moldy Peaches at number one in her track listing?
the video is a year old
given that she says her favourite band is razorlight at the time, and now they barely feature on her top artists, im guessing she used to be into razorlight and got a bit of a clue later on.
Just looking at her shoutbox
I think it is. Someone's written:
'aye, you've not scrobbled ronan for a while, he needs to be in our artists we share in common aye. xxxxxxxxxxx'
i cant wait for him to come online now
:D
im guessing the video was done a year or so ago
point in her favour:
she likes Life Without Buildings.
hmmm
+She listens to X Ray Spex
+She listens to Sonic Youth
+She listens to The Sonics
-She has a ridiculous taste in eyewear
-She listened to Carla Bruni last week
-She listens to artists once each. Is she actually interested in music, or just in having a fashionable last.fm chart?
-Compatibility: Very Low
I got medium compatability
im guessing that video was done a year or two ago given that she mentions school. So its not all bad.
dude she's like 15 too
you utter paedo
Well I went out with you yesterday
and you're 24. And I'm 20. Now look who's the paedo? Taking impressionable young men to notting hill and plying them with Spanish beer with odd aftertastes and Wipers albums.
(I really like Youth of America, a lot)
if that's constitutes going out
then i'm a stud.
Also:
sorry. I realise you're actually 23. We can date after all.
shes 17
although she was probably 15 in that video.. thus explaining the change from complete bellend, to bellend thats grown up.
Im sure if i was on telly at 15 id now look back on it and cry.
is this program not a new thing then?
i'm surprised someones only posted it here now. 2 years seems like a long time for the beeb to wait.
im not sure
but like i said several things, her mates look younger than 17, shes a typical 15 year old kid in the video, she likes razorlight on the video but they arent in her last.fm... etc.
i think by this point
it constitutes stalking and she could sue you for loadsamoney
indie kids dont need money
its not quirky
no thats ska kids
'ska is about having fun, not caring about anything like material possessions, and being TOTALLY WICKED!!!'
thats actually true of all ska though
not just the kids... another reason to hate it.
I don't see what's wrong with having fun.
do you see anything wrong with reel big fish?
I have a 2-Tone T-shirt
Am I now subnormal?
.
its not that old. the techie guy goes to my school and i think he was filmed less than a year ago and he was the first on it.
I like her taste in eyewear
Well, on that video.

Your musical compatibility rating with flashgordon__ is:
Very Low
this is why i'm surprised
she comes off badly out of this thing. i always thought she was pretty sound due to her music taste.
i'm sure she's lovely in real life, i wouldn't want to sound 'indier-than-thou' or judgemental or anything.
"VERY LOW"
thank christ.
:O
You share a few artists in common, including Kings of Leon, Good Shoes, Sonic Youth, Adam Green, and Pixies.
. . .
me too.
very embarrassing really.
this.

JOE TEACHES YOU TO SKANK ONLINE!!!!
if only we had this now!!!
the other one that seems semi normal is the mosher. yes he's a bit teenaged, but he's not the indie girl. she's the sort of person that makes me wish for an ethnic cleansing of the middle classes.
for their own sakes.
Techie's seem most... normal
What about music?
* I listen to anything that’s easily downloadable.
* I like alternative music… whether it's in or out of fashion. I like real music.
* As my music habits change, so do I.
* I like to listen to my music on my iPod, Mp3 Player, Mobile phone, Satellite and Cable systems, through Windows Media Player/Real Player/ iTunes and online streaming.
to be fair
she sounds like shes from liverpool. i guess its excusable.
then again its absoloutely gold.
