Sorry to start this thread again but our usual place is booked for next Tuesday (Gun Factory in Stoke Newington) and am trying to find a decent rehearsal space for a couple hours next Tues night. Any ideas of somewhere east, north east, or central?
(note, used one around Denmark street once and the sound was just AWFUL - SOOO bad... hence wanting somewhere decent.. we don't mind paying more as it's important to us to check out various sound levels as we are an electro act with lots of cables and sounds and stuff.. yeah.. ummm..).
THANKS!!
:-)

...
Now I can't remember what exactly the name is, but it's on Hackney Road about 5 minutes ride down from Liverpool Street. This place is so swish and costs so little, I actually find myself kinda wanting to be in a band just so I can practise there.
It's quite famous apparently, so Googling it shouldn't be a chore.
Is it Premises Recording studios?
(must be just near the cafe)..?
I know Bonafide on Curtain Road is shit... and I don't fancy smelling cats piss, quite frankly, while in a room without air for a few hours.
...
That's the one. Nice big rooms, comfortable sofas for when you are not METAL and have to sit down, and you might see Courtney Love when she barges into your room thinking you're her band.
Thank you very very much. Nick Cave was spotted by my friend
near Premises Cafe recently having latte out the front... I wonder if he was pottering in the studio. Thanks!!
Argh - Premises is fully booked..
Just tried OTR on Mare Street but no answer.. Any other tips and handy hints on east side studios?
Might have to be Bonafide...
(Chromeo always pops into my head when I walk past there).
Loads of bigger bands
use Premesis.....when i'm there i'll normally see a menagerie of different indie bands.
When's ur next gig, Terra, now that you're on the big
time payroll? I must come along-ski.
Camden Crawl on tyhe Saturday night I believe
19th of April?
Vatican
in Bancroft Rd? I used to use them ages ago, and though not as nice as the premises they more than made up for it by being cheap.
I'm not actual sure they're still going though, since a quick google reveals a lot of listings under 'dance studios'.
My limited experience of rehearsal rooms in London to date
Bonafide (Old Street)
Pros: Cheap! Central Location! Not too bad with availability.
Cons: Absolutely disgusting and covered in fungus! Equipment intermittent and in need of replacement.
Breakfast Studios (Clapham Junction)
Pros: Cheap! Easily accessible location, right next to the train station (in the arches)! Clean! Great equipment!
Cons: Odd hour slots in evenings (18:00-21:00 or 21:00-00:00). Booked out months ahead (phoned on March 18th and told they were booked out till May).
I'm just looking for something cheap, with reliable equipment relatively central (we're based in various locations in the south of London), but to no avail. We thought we'd lucked out when we used Breakfast once, but have never been able to get a slot there since.
Only backline we need is a drumkit (without cymbals), two guitar amps, a bass amp and a PA.
Seem to only be able to find expensive places so far, alas.
POOR ME!
Ta - have reserved a booking at OTR on mare street
so will report back duly - Premises referred me there, actually.
I wanna play where the Cave has played!
We/I rent one in Limehouse
and tis basic but really cheap an' alright. Has guitar amp, bass amp, and a PA, loud enough for an electro band to stick everything through - rehearsed last week twice and my ears were ringing in the morning. Great sign.
Permanent hearing damage
Not so cool.

I concur
Just always don't realise how loud it is and keep turning it up...
Fortress

Just off Old st roundabout. Good size clean rooms, decent gear. 4hrs = £70 so a bit steep.
We are looking for a cheaper alternative ourselves.
Premises are good but expensive.
The Joint in kings cross is supposed to be good.
Bonafide is not worth using, filthy & the gear if it worked would not pass a safety inspection...AVOID!
If you can be bothered with the journey Mill Hill Studios are ok, reasonably priced.
OTR just on Mare Street... £45 notes for 4 hours
from 7 till 11 (slev)
So yeah... got that sorted.
Will report back but our favourite is Gun Factory in Stoke Newington - just clean, good sound, and the guys who run it are really cool. I remember going to parties there before it got converted into rehearsal space, oddly enough! (years ago - old mews entry).
OTR is alright
tho a monitor fell off some breeze bricks and nearly killed my friend in there once. sick.
