all those cruddy punk and DIY pop comps and their ilk, eh? it's pretty much all i listen to these days, if you include all the bands like Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit that sound the same.

what volumes/songs/bands do you like best?

there's nothing like spontaneous one-take ineptitude, terrible injokes, brutal offensiveness and one note guitar solos for a good time. something like Tampax's "UFO Dictator" or the Huns' "Glad He's Dead" has far more energy and charm (if you call it that) than yer usual 'rock' shite simply by virtue of it being done for no reason other than fun.

and of course you can download it all with no qualms as all the records are out of print and as rare as hen's teeth and a large proportion of the musicians will be dead.

Are you talking about the Messthetic compilations?

If so, they're very good. Hyped2Death have put some rather interesting stuff out. My singer's other band are on a few of the punk comps too. I recommend them thoroughly.

yeah, Messthetics, Homework, Teenline...

all the Hyped2Death stuff and then all of those old "Killed By Death" bootleg LPs compiling loads of old punk records and general DIY stuff and power-pop and that.

what band was your singer in?

The Astronauts

Often called 'hippy punk' which I quite like, despite being a bit contradictory.

Yeah, on Messthetics #102

His other band Restricted Hours are on there too.

hehe

i'll listen to that later.

it's funny where some of these people turn up later in life, i saw some Youtube footage of a Japanese doctor with a centre-parted bowl cut being embarrassed on a gameshow with some live tape of his old hardcore band, whose only single has a war atrocity on the cover and goes for a shitload of money on eBay. that was odd.

there

are some kbd reissues available. i picked up the first 4 volumes not too long ago...
