Has anyone been to South Africa?

I need to start saving to go on the 2009 Lions tour, but will probably only be able to afford one test. What is the best bet out of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town?

I've been!

It's been a good while though... Erm spent the most time in Joburg and Cape Town. Cape Town is great, but I was too young to go and do stuff (like going out) when I was there... I would still say you might be better off in Cape Town though because you'll only get mugged and raped in Johannesburg if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which I am told is most places/most of the time.

So yeah, Cape Town ftw basically.

i'm sure someone has

somewhere

beat me to it!

;(

south africa?

more like south NAFFrica...

heh heh...

One of my life's ambitions is to go to a Lions game

SA is the most affordable, but with the highest probility of murder

erm...

I've only been to jo-burg airport, I was mainly in Swaziland but I also spent about a week in Durban, I don't know if it's typcial of other SA cities, if so, expect the race split to be alive and well.

Don't know anything about Pretoria, Jo-burg has the dangerous reputation, Cape Town has lots of extra things to see/do as well as watch the game...

^

I don't think the race split thing was very bad in Cape Town at all, and like you said there's loads to do and see in the city.

I've just realised I was in Durban 7 years ago

lets hope things have progressed a little more since then.

Hmm.

I was in SA five years ago, and let me just say that for the most part apartheid was still live and well in all but name.

ive only been to J-burg and Durban.

so im gonna say

.....
..........
Johannesburg
tadahhh!

David Healy permitting,

I'll be going in 2010!

It's rubbish

Don't come.

Cape Town's a much much MUCH better city than Johannesburg. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favourite cities that I've been to. Not sure about nightlife and stuff cos I went with family when I was 15, but it's a beautiful place.

My uncle lived in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

I really wanted to go visit him there, but couldn't afford it and now he's staying in Canada. So basically I'm no help.

Cape Town

absolutely stole my heart five years ago. Wonderful atmosphere, cute little shops/cafes, incredible beaches, adorable buildings in pastel shades, touristy but not overrated Table Mountain. It's simply gorgeous.

I lived in Cape Town

for a few months in 2006.

I loved it at the time. Such a strange place, quite european, but obviously african.

As someone living IN South Africa

You should definitely come watch in Cape Town if you are most concerned with how things are going to be like outside the rugby. Don't go to joburg - its crap. It has crime, no beaches or anything and a horribly located stadium. So is Pretoria, although I'm guessing it will probably have the best atmosphere - if you call a bunch of drunk Afrikaners atmosphere.

Cape Town has beaches, better night life, has better tourist attractions and better wimmin. And the stadium is ok, but ever so conveniently located in the middle of the suburbs so it messes with traffic around me.

Cape Town is also the middle test

So the contest will still be alive regardless. Looks like a good shout

I briefly dated a south african in 2001.

She was a nasty, calculating cunt.

Joburg is shit

but we've all got crime.
