just seen it mentioned again on someones faves list...
why?
its ok, but its a bit messy and overblown. certainly not a 10/10. theres too much static and tunelessness for my liking.
im sure its not cos im a reprobate

Not heard it, but

Volcano by Satyricon is one of the best black metal albums ever

im sure it is

and volcano starring tommy lee jones is the best disaster film ever.
is this true?
no

No. But

There was a pizza on the menu named 'Volcano' in a Mancunian takeaway I used to frequent. It was hotter than the sun and just as tasty.

I like Beautiful Seizure too. It's just messy and overblown enough to be a fantastic album, for me.

i listened to it again recently

and it's still ace. i never agreed with the 10/10 rating anyway, but i'd say it's an 8/10 at least.

i usually remember it just for how good 'apple or a gun' is, but actually, there's a few tracks that are just as good.

...

i listened to apple or a gun (which is amazinggg) loads before i heard the album and was pretty disappointed when i eventually heard it. they're all pretty similar songs.
still think they're a decent band though.

yeh

i agree with the apple or a gun thing, its pretty ace. the rest of the album pales in comparison.
songs like la lluvia for instance
im not a massive fan of his vocals at all.

hmmm.

well i rate it highly, Apple or a gun is the most immediate tune, however Fire Fire is an absolute gem if you let it open up properly. there are plenty of others

i will say that i thought it was proper cack when i first heard the LP, however i perservered with it for many many nights. swinging wildly between genuis/cack/genius/cack not quite sure which way it will fall. almost the same predicament i had with captain beefheart. it eventually fell on genius and totally accept it is unlikely to achieve universal acclaim.

but i dont care greatly - i find it a fabulous record to stick on when i need a bit of light dappling thru the curtains of my meagre existence....

10.5/10

fire fire

what's it gonna take to get your freak on, freak on, freak on, freak on?

utter win.

There is a post on

their myspace saying a new album called Paperwork is being recorded as we speak!

The album is pretty great.

Fire Fire, Apple Or A Gun and Red & White bells are all a bit special. It sounded messy to me at first but for me it unravels the more you listen. It's unpredictable, filled with hidden hooks and at times amazing beauty in a weird schizophrenic way at least. Although La Lluvia does my head in, so 9/10 from me with that song being the only weak point.

la lluvia

is like that song on the vertigo of bliss.
altho i quite like that one for some reason. its one of those songs

easy does it!

is genius, as is pulling my face in and out of distortion

I'd give it a 10/10 for effort.

Not sure what I'd give the album though - don't think I've listened to it enough.

;

i like it, and rate easy does it pretty highly, but i always thought that with the 10/10 review, even though i like it, that it was there to try and get a few signature "DiS" reviews.
you know, the way nme, stylus and pf get their titles attached to bands, to raise awareness.
if the album had been more popular, perhaps DiS would have got more credit?

one of the best albums in recent years

in my humble opinion. awesome band and i cannot wait for the new album. their appearance in southampton was one of my favourite shows ever.

its an amazing album

i think the messiness is one of his best features, i love that jazz styling, everything feels like its spilling over the sides just barely held together by the amazing drumming. such vivid timbres too, they really have the potential to be a particularly special band. for a debut its insanely well realised, and they were excellent live too. i think the next album could be something really incredible.

It is actually a brilliant album

Pulling my face.... is highly underrated. Some of the lyrics on that track are brilliant and the way it caves in on itself is completely brilliant

live they were one of the best bands i've ever seen.

everything on this record just becomes totally realised when it's right in front of you. 10/10 for me, definitely. it took time, like.
