I kinda always see IS carpets records in the used bin and I'm tempted... cos I can't really remember. My recollection is they're kinda like Kula shaker only a little better (but how much better?!)...
without a hint of overstatement that they were, approxuimately, one billion times better than kula shaker.
of course, bear in mind that by this scale Reef were 50,000 times better than kula shaker.
that my claims to fame wer that i went to school with a member of Kula Shaker and went to the same pub as reef, and lived for a while in the same town as the Others.
God, shit music follows me around like the plague.
are you living now alex? could give us a handy hint as to where the next wave of trult awful indie bands is invading from. we could strike now and bomb their 'battle of the bands' nights...
Kula Shaker suffered a bit from a classic NME build em up, knock em down. I'm not saying they were good or anything, but there was a brief period where everyone was happy to like Hey Dude.
But very 'of the time'. If you like the whole madchester thing you'll probably love them.
The first Kula Shaker album is great! As is their cover of Hush and Magical Machine Gun and Sound of Drums. I prefer Kula Shaker to the Inspiral Carpets but if I was 5 years younger that'd probably be the other way round.
and have 30ish cd's of theirs still... most of their stuff didn't stand the test of time that well tho admitadly. can't remember the last time i pulled them out to listen either....
i absolutley love the carpets, i grew up in Manchester through the hacienda days (i was a kid though so never went clubbing... lol) so all the music from back then still gives me a little tingle... This is how it feels is a great song by the carpets... happy mondays, the smiths, james, stone roses, love em all... proud to be mancunian!
the inspirals were pretty bad, to say they were a 'great singles band' does the likes of say, Madness, The Supremes, The Beach Boys and The Buzzcocks a great disservice.
i grew up around Manchester at the time and they were always thought of as a bit of a joke. they looked awful, their singer had a horrible monotone croon and every song had that annoying rinkydink organ sound which was nicked (badly) from The Doors Soul Kitchen...
with the old singer, Steve Holt, who went on to form The Rainkings.
The first version of Keep The Circle Around is utterly fantastic, as are the likes of Whiskey, Greek Wedding Song and So Far.
If you weren't around at the time pick up the greatest hits with the 2nd disc 'rare as fuck' and the DVD.

Me too

and really I should just myspace em.
i liked their
quirky, organ-based pop singles. yes, indeedy.
i'd go so far as to say
without a hint of overstatement that they were, approxuimately, one billion times better than kula shaker.
of course, bear in mind that by this scale Reef were 50,000 times better than kula shaker.
I find it a sad irony
that my claims to fame wer that i went to school with a member of Kula Shaker and went to the same pub as reef, and lived for a while in the same town as the Others.

even Gay Dad...
were better than Kula Shaker!
I think that
Kula Shaker suffered a bit from a classic NME build em up, knock em down. I'm not saying they were good or anything, but there was a brief period where everyone was happy to like Hey Dude.
Back to the point, Saturn Five is a quality tune.
The IC's are okay
But very 'of the time'. If you like the whole madchester thing you'll probably love them.

well...
it was a time when i pretended not to come from manchester as i was continually bombarded with... crappy questions about Madchester.
however... Saturn5 is a really really quality tune.
the rest is mediocre at best.... as with most of the madchester 'scene'
Northside anyone?

northside
no one.
i remember
to tony h bigging them up on one of his shows....
they were f'kin awful!
MOVE is a very great Inspirals song
there were not all that many very good ones
but many good ones
shall we take a trip
sing LSD!
they remind me of neds wearing
cool as fuck t-shirts
i guess they were kind of fun, but i dont really have much of an opinion as i remember them more for their merchandise than their music
I used to LOVE them...
...and I remember my cool as fuck tshirt (I'm not a ned) but I was skinny as, er, fuck, so all that everyone saw on my chest was "..ool as fu..."
And Joe is a classic song. I wanna hear move now....
Joe
is great!
Their big one was This Is How It Feels and you'll probably find it on every Indie compilation from that era. It wasn't their best.
They were great live (back then anyway) and I've got two t-shirts and i'm not a ned either.
what's a ned?
I liked Uniform and I Want You
They were probably their worst songs weren't they?
Husband don't know what he's done
KIDS DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH MUM!
she can't say,
they can't see,
putting it down to another bad day...
Great Lyrics..
Also remember the fantastically daft Mark E. Smith singing on 'I Want You'
Moo!
p.s. A Ned is the Scots equivalent of a Chav. Stands for non-educated delinquent (so they say)
'mon then, radge!
i was a huge fan back in the day
and have 30ish cd's of theirs still... most of their stuff didn't stand the test of time that well tho admitadly. can't remember the last time i pulled them out to listen either....
Anyone else remember
Carter USM doing a cover of 'this is how it feels' live?
Awesome stuff.
Great singles band
strange to think
they actually started off doing double-header gigs with spacemen 3 of all people...happy daze
Clint Boon's
disco resue at South anyone? No didn't think so.
Love Em

Everyone knows The High were better
let's put this into perspective
the inspirals were pretty bad, to say they were a 'great singles band' does the likes of say, Madness, The Supremes, The Beach Boys and The Buzzcocks a great disservice.
