Graham Coxon talks on 'risk' of Blur reunion

Former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has admitted that it may be some time before the band is reconciled, stating that the potential risk involved would be the main obstacle to any reunion.

"I suppose the rumours are based on some sort of fact," said Coxon, referring to ceasless whispering that seemed to find new volume in September last year.

"It's kind of naive to expect a group to get back together after years of not really communicating really well and under that amount of pressure. But steps have been made to talk."

Those talks amount to little more than the niceties thrown any dinner table during polite chatter, though, Coxon told Xfm.

"We all met up in a restaurant and it was nice but it was small talk, really, just catching up with friends like you do and it was all very odd.

"Nothing like recording was discussed and of course we're all busy. I think it's something that might happen when everybody feels ready and that might be years away.”

It’s almost been five years since the last Blur album, Coxon leaving halfway through recording for Think Tank in 2002.

It seems that since then Coxon and Albarn have become too embroiled in their respective solo activities to make the time for a much-desired reunion.

"We're all doing stuff individually that's really fulfilling,” confirmed Coxon, “and that doesn't have to change. Pressure is the main obstacle, perhaps going back to make a record with Blur is a risk for all of us."

The implication is that that risk is to solo careers, though it’s tempting to suggest that Coxon’s perhaps referring to inter-band relations. All will unfold in due course, we’re sure.

i'm not sure

there's much to risk with coxon's recent solo career...

took the words right out of my mouth

the concepts "risk" and "Coxo's solo stuff" are in no danger of ever coming into contact

Coxon is nothing without Blur

and I imagine he spent his whole time with them moaning like Alan Bennett about how unfulfilled he was. I think its clear who was the talent and innovator in light of his and Damons respective solo careers.

I like to think re: risk

he's hinting at a conspiracy that goes all the way to the top.

They can take their time by all means

but this is one band who really do need to close the book properly at some point, so I really hope they sort it eventually.

i wonder if they'll be able

to keep alex off the telly long enough to play some shows

We can only hope

they don't ever get back together.

Or, they do, but a huge stage-light falls on Alex James and crushes him.

Reunion please!

Anything that distracts Alex James from spewing crap about the limitations of music and the world of cheese in the Observer every few weeks is fine with me. Hopefully I could avoid his music more easily than his piss poor journalism.

Graham Coxon

writes good pop music. Respect to him. Alex James is a fucking wanker though. DON'T REUNITE PLEASE.

Coxon's solo career was probably better

when he WAS in Blur. Damon always seemed to manage too. I'm sure if they set up a studio on Alex's farm they could all find time to fit their extracurricular activities in.

My Hero

There's no way Alex will be able to take time off from ridding the world of cocaine, referring to himself as a "rock-star" and hosting terrible band competitions. Oh, and running a farm. He's a farmer you know...?

Doing forget

making a mild arse of himself on 'Question Time'...

Why do they have to release an album?

Why exactly do Blur need to release an album for them to make a reunion

I wouldn't be fussed if they just reunited to headline glasto then be back to their solo careers, its their choice at the end of the day

I just think there are thousands of kids my age (18) around the country who were too young when blur first got put into the spotlight, I remember playing fifa 98' and song 2 was the headline song of the game, the music took you to places even as a nipper you knew to be mindblowing, and its for that simple reason they should reunite and make boys' childhood dreams come true.

I would give anything to see blur live at some point in my life!

I hope you get to see them live too!

They were a great live band, one of my favourite festival headliners ever (V97 - the papers dubbed their set "commercial suicide" because they played loads of album tracks from 'Modern Life Is Rubbish', 'Leisure' and 'Blur' - obviously, it was fantastic).

I don't think it's fair to overly criticise Graham's solo stuff - he's just enjoying himself these days, and fair play to him. His best solo stuff probably was made while he was still in Blur, but he wasn't a very happy bunny back then, and I imagine that one of the "risks" for him would be a return to any situations that make him miserable. Life's too short, etc.

Still, I'm not kidding myself: I would cream my pants if Blur made another album. And played the Roundhouse for 15 consecutive nights, so I'd at least be able to get a ticket.

T in the Park '99

V97 might have been great but T99 certainly wasn't. They pretty much played the whole of "13".....in track order. Then threw us a few scraps by playing one or two hits at the end!

/\/\ hahaha /\/\

yeah i was at that T In The Park set. though still loved it as i was and propably still am insane blur fan

the same year when they headlined Reading. literally the best thing i have ever seen. and they closed with 'Sing' - amazing.

Coxon=Balls

I wish Blur would go on and make another album without Coxon. he should piss off and make more of his boring crap and shit paintings. Blur are better off without him. (Although his version of thats when i reach for my revolver is pretty good)

Are you saying

that every Blur album except 'Think Tank' is rubbish?

If so, sir, I may have to offer you outside, sir, so we can settle this like GENTLEMEN, sir!
