I'm going to say either Five, Eight and Ten by Mineral or In Circles by Sunny Day Real Estate.

I just love that plucked intro to Five, Eight and Ten.

I know this thread has been done before, but I've been listening to far too much of this stuff to not post about it.

Assuming I'm allowed to call them emo

American Football- Never Meant

emo's not a dirty word anymore

its not being played on MTV anymore.

good call^

sic transit gloria by brand new

It was a toss up between that and

Me Vs Maradona Vs Elvis

very

good call

Christie Front Drive

Fin

I love

all of the songs mentioned so far. I'd say I prefer Seven to In Circles by SDRE though.

I wholeheartedly agree with In Circles by Sunny Day Real Estate

infact the whole of Diary is amazing

It's the best album ever made.

That's a solidgoldfact.

Actually, this might be a good thread. I love SDRE: what else should I be listening to? I shall take recommendations from this thread and either wilfully ignore them or make some informed purchases.

Braid

.

I like Braid and all

but they aren't as good as some other stuff. Maybe they're less immediate and I need to devote some more time to them. I only have The Age of Octeen which I'm told is their weaker album.

Get

Frame and Canvas. It might change your mind.

oh man you'd love mineral

get The Power of Failing. and Endserenading.

Noted.

I posted a massive list in a thread a few days ago

and i can't be arsed typing it out again.

The thread was called 'good old-new emo' or something.

bleeeeeeeeeed american

maybe

at your funeral

by saves the day is also a bit of a tear-jerking classic

Schmeemo

Promise Ring - Why Did Ever We Meet
Texas is the Reason - Back And To The Left
Wordbug - Waiting (Exeter proto-emo)

And

Get Up Kids - Anne Arbour

Back and to the Left

good call. Antique is another great song of theirs, can't believe I forgot about that one.

Fullerov

from

Brand New: Play Crack The Sky
Brand New: Jesus Christ
The Get Up Kids: Campfire Kansas
Knapsack: Skip The Details
Knapsack: Please Shut Off The Lights
Say Anything: Every Man Needs A Molly
Braid: Milwaukee Sky Rocket

Does Glassjaw count?

The Gillette Cavalcade Of Sports?
If not, probably something by Weezer.

I hate myself

'monster free tokyo'
'drowning not waving' ahha how they used to make me sad
also sunny day real estate's 'seven' of course

I never really saw Weezer

as emo.

Under ANY of its variations.

no not at all

yes hes very emo-tional on pinkerton but its not the same kettle of fish

Sunny Day Real Estate - Song About an Angel

or Steps and Numbers by the Appleseed Cast, if you could call them emo.

I do.

Shit i forgot about Steps and Numbers

the drumming in it is amazing

Circa Survive - Great Golden Baby

On The Might Of Princes - The Swell And The Breaking
Further Seems Forever - The Moon Is Down/The Bradley

I love emo a considerable amount.

Does anyone think that...

Absinthe Party..... by Minus The Bear could qualify as emo, it's definitely a bit emo-fied. If that makes any sense. If it counts then thats a great song.

yeah i think some minus the bear tracks border on emo territory

absinthe party is amazing even if it doesn't qualify

Braid - A Dozen Roses

clearly

i'm

with you...

City On Film

I have seen Bob Nanna twice, and twice he hasn't played it.

SUX.

^ 5

That, along with I'll See You When We're Both Not So Emotional by American Football are two of my favourite songs of all time.

I'll be crushingly predictable and say

Jude Law and a Semester Abroad by Brand New.

23

by Jimmy Eat World FTW!

Old Brand New?

Thats not predicatable. Thats well controversial!

is it?

Didn't realise. Even though I prefer their new stuff, this is probably my favourite track.

^ snap!

Does anyone else

have a slight obsession with getting all the mid 90's bands albums.

I spend ages looking for Boy's Life and Mineral records....

.

mewithoutYou - C-Minor

yes

I nearly wept of joy when I got my Christie Front Drive/Boy's Life split EP 10".

list

American Football - Honestly?/You Know I Should Be Leaving Soon
Braid - Collect Call from Clark Kent

I'd say that's

more post-hardcore than emo?

Oh my god

Hmm...

I was going to say something by Get Up Kids, but someone else mentioned my beloved Brand New as being 'emo' so what the hell: "Limousine"

Or 'I Can Climb Mountains' by Hell Is For Heroes. Tune.

"And you can fake smiles to make you feel

When its time to break the deal
Cos it's easy now, i'm easy now"

<3

Jawbreaker - Fireman

Sunny Day Real Estate - ALL OF DIARY
Texas Is The Reason - DO You Know Who You Are? (Yes, a very un-emo instrumental, but it's simplicity which gets me).

Loads

Last Days of April - Will The Violins Be Playing is a belter

As is Mother Mary by Far

and Holiday by The Get Up Kids - pure fist clenching emo awesomeness!

brand new - last chance to lose your keys

pop-punk or emo, dunno, but it's great

jesus christ by brand new too.

in circlesss by SDRE as mentioned lots before and song about an angel. aaahhh :D

some others that i can't remember now.

I know it is a bit cheesy but...

Lukewarm by New End Original.

Are we including 'screamo'?

In which case anything by Circle takes the Square.

couldn't possibly pick just one

but a randomly chosen top 3 might be:

Get Up Kids - Holiday
Mineral - Unfinished
Jimmy Eat World - Table For Glasses

Steeper Than We Thought - KNAPSACK

Emergency!Emergency! - THE PROMISE RING
Intifada Driving School - SEAM
Like A Future With No Friend - SMALL BROWN BIKE
Lucky Denver Mint - JEW

.

Tiny Hawks - Signal Meets A Signal
Bells on Trike - There Went Nothing
Evergreen - Shoulders
Damezumari - Second Chance
kolya - The Story Becomes the Vehicle
Boilermaker- Slingshot
Lovesick - Invention
Boys Life - All of the Negatives
Rockets and Bluelights - Andee
Mineral - Serenading

probably

braid - urbanna's to dark or forever got shorter.
american football - nevermeant

whilst technically a punk band, i will add
kiss the bottle by jawbreaker.

another vote for

'Back and to the left' by Texas Is The Reason.

Also 'Boys Lie' by Brandtson (if it's allowed)

Ooh, can't pick just one

First thoughts:

Sunny Day Real Estate - Seven
Midtown - Waiting for the News
Brand New - Okay, I Believe You...
Dashboard Confessional - Best Deceptions
Alexisonfire - Where No One Knows (Does this count?)

Oh, and something by Saves The Day

Freakish probably. Or Nightingale.

hmmm

Do You Like Coffee?
Forever Got Shorter
or
Hugs From Boys
by Braid

or

I'll See You When We're Both Not So Emotional
by American Football

Christie Front Drive - Bag

Texas is the Reason - A Jack With One Eye
Jawbreaker - Kiss The Bottle

unfinished by mineral

or after the movies by cursive (if cursive count(to pre empt the emo police))

.

if anyone cares, i'll be announcing the dates for a tour for the new amsterdams (matt pryor, lead singer of get up kids) in a couple of days... will be in may

"please drive faster! oh no disaster!!!"

by Braid. maybe. i sure do sing it a lot, and have done so for the past million of years...
