Good news for people who like floods – organisers at the Carling Weekend Reading Festival have been forced to close off car parks and camping areas due to yet more of the interfering wet stuff cacking things up for everyone again.
Festival big cheese – well, maybe not the big cheese, but certainly a nice ripe gorgonzola - Melvyn Benn said that emergency flood plans have been put in place to accommodate not-so-happy campers, who can expect to find some areas "unusable" at the event, which takes place this weekend August 24-6.
Organisers have turned one proposed car park into a campsite campsite, while other pitching areas will have reduced capacity. But don’t panic – help is at hand from the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals homepage, and Benn at least is looking on the bright side.
"It's been a very difficult month," he said. "This summer has been bloody awful.
"But we will be able to stage the world's greatest rock festival despite what climate change and the weather have thrown at us. I always said the festival was more important than the weather!"
flood produces good music?
i'm sure we could have had a 'flood the producer' joke there. didnt he produce albums for the pumpkins and nin?
yes.
and unfortunatly U2.
i better get myself some wellies.
"world's greatest rock festival"
this is like describing the people who design those aseptic show homes in the home counties as being the "world's greatest architects".
:-)
world's shittest festival more like!
that'll
give all those screamo bands something to whine about
yeh...
that's right, blame climate change... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck...
bad weather won't
make it akin to reading 92 and I'll lamp the first one to make the comparison. why oh why did i get a sunday ticket...?
well
..i'm still looking forward to it, mudbath or not. for my money it's the best line up for the last few years - Shins, Interpol, NIN, Pumpkins, UNKLE - fair share of bands i've never seen.
however, after 10 years of hardcore Reading-ness, i feel it may be time to move on after this year... and those foreign festivals sure look tempting...
'Greatest rock festival'
..greatest?
..rock?
..was he talking about the same festival?
Re:Floods put dampeners on Reading.
good.
I'm used to cynicism on here
But what's the point of that, person above? Just pointless and not nice.
I went to benicasim instead this year
.. and unless someone air drops me in free of charge i won't be going to reading again
bahaha
glad its all under control
"well, the carparks and campsites are all under water, and we have no real back ups or solutions... BUT WE'RE GONNA HAVE A ROCKIN GOOD TIME YEAH READING 2007!"
awesome
Rain falls on everyone
hahaha flood jokes...
Yeah,
but Leeds is fine...
Yup
when you bust the European Festival scene its really really hard to ever imagine going back to this shit!
The campsites will be full by tomorrow
I work between Reading Station and the festival site and on my way in this morning saw that people are arriving already. Better hurry up!!
las year I saw the most scariest thing EVER
An emo boi straightening his hair...WITH WIRELESS STRAIGHTENERS
3 year drout
Haven't been now for three years and I thought every year I would miss it or at least get the urge by saturday afternoon to get on a train but I don't.
After a little over 10 years of ritually hitting the same strip of wasteland I am sad to say I couldn't give a shit about Reading anymore.
I think that when it changed hands it got a lot worse, the burning desire to over populate yet never increase the arena size is foolish.
The introduction of the dance tent in 97 screwed everything, the last two years I went each night someone tried to sleep in my tent whilst I was in it resulting in punch ups. My entire tent content has been stolen without fail by saturday and I feel like there are more 13yr olds than 30, but maybe thats getting older talking.
Things I do miss from Readings gone by:
The Dr Martins unsigned tent, saw some amazing acts in there all those years ago.
The Virgin Tea tent thingy back in 96/97?? somewhere around then, free blackcurrent tea, quality.
Being able to put your tent up behind where you parked your car.
The Ice cream van meeting spot right side of main stage by the light tower without fail every year!
And of course getting the opportunity to see a hundred or so amazing acts in 3 great tents and one shite main stage.
