I was going to go this year
But I've changed my mind about it.
hmm
The Magic Numbers are the first headlining band to be announced for this years Summer Sundae Festival.
Also playing at the Leicester bash are, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Pipettes, The Rumblestrips, Duke Special, Gruff Rhys, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, Tiny Dancers, The Whip, Ben Taylor, Richmond Fontaine and Cud. Many more big names are still to come.
SOUNDS A BIT SHIT.
Line up
is a bit gash
I
groaned when I saw the headline on NME.com, just knew they were referring to Summer Sundae...I don't hate The Magic Numbers, but this is less than thrilling.
Normally a bunch of decent bands on lower down the order so fingers crossed.
Better than Gomez last year
I trust the organisers implicity, so I'm sure they're building up to some really good stuff (Soweto Kinch and Broken Family Band have somehow been announced since this morning) According to the head honcho on their forum they approached LCD and Doves but neither were available.
*sad face*
It was so good last year and the year before.
I hope it improves....
Only Gruff Rhys to be excited about...
but as I'm going to Dour now I can't be goiing to this anyway.
This
might just be my favourite festival. I've been the last two years and have a ticket for this year too.
I think it's just that this first announcement is a tad underwhelming...as said above, Gruff Rhys apart, there's nowt to get excited about - at least not to my ears anyway.
It's not like last year when first reading about Elbow and B&S, I almost pooped myself...but there's still loads of time left for some good stuff to be added, so I'm not worried.
i went in 2005
and it was great, and a really rich diverse line-up.
Had a ticket for last year but couldn't go at the last minute.
Went last year,
and it was my favourite UK festival of last year. Very good laid back crowd and atmosphere and eclectic (in a good way) line up. Shall hopefully be returning this year
I agree
Gruff Rhys is the only thing that I'm excited about musically so far.
However, the overall vibe of this festival, the lack of aggro, the indoor venues, the decent bars, the clean toilets and the city centre location are all things I'm looking forward to.
All it will take is a few decent other acts on the bill and all will be fine. It had better be, I've already got a ticket!
I bought my ticket today..
lineup doesn't look too impressive at the mo but there's plenty of time for that to change :) LCD would have been the aceness but ah well....
Just
realised today that I had managed to confuse Duke Special with Duke Spirit, ummm...from what I saw when they supported The Divine Comedy last year, that's now two whole bands to look forward too.
Gay4Summer Sundae, that's me
More names announced today, and this is a lot more promising:
Divine Comedy, Spiritualized Acoustic Mainline, !!!, John Cooper Clarke, DJ Yoda, The Aliens, Spoon, Malcolm Middleton, Two Gallants, Kate Nash, Simple Kid, Alberta Cross, Palladium, Jeremy Warmsley, Wild Beasts, zZz
a local festival
for me but its shit every year, i've never been!
wut?
surely the second part of that sentence renders the first part meaningless...
SS
line up looking quite good, what with !!! and dj yoda and spiritualized.i have my ticket so hopefully line up will get better.tis a lovely festival though, very chilled and laid back.
summer sundae fringe festival
and to make the summer sundae event a bit more interesting :
http://www.myspace.com/summersundaefringefestival
with several label showcases, single launch parties and 4 official festival warm up parties.
more information from pineapster

rumble strips
are ace.
The rest of it does look a little gash tho..
nah its slowly getting there.
aliens are ex beta band.
malcolm middleton is ex arab strap
the displacements have been added to the bill
as has micah p hinson.
and theres still the dance headliners and indoor headliners to be announced.
ahh - it'd be worth it for micah alone
Thank you for the translation on the other bands, I didn't know about Aliens.
Yeah
I stopped doing updates because I wasn't sure if anyone was arsed, but look, new names: http://www.summersundae.com/lineup.asp
Please
keep doing updates
I'm always arsed.
I just don't always show it.
And I'm very happy with the latest additions.
I knew it'd come good.
no worries.
it will be worth a ticket just to see spiritualized do the acoustic set. and this will be the only UK summer festival appearance.
basically jason pierce, doggen, an acoustic guitar, a fender rhodes, a string quartet and 4 gospel singers. rework spiritualized, spacemen 3 and daniel johnson songs. i saw them y theatre leicester gig and it was breathtaking.
jasons is only doing acoustic gigs until the new album is finished in september.
Are you sure it's their only appearance?

That's April.
This is summer. I'm a pedant.
i struggle to class
ATP as a festival, post war delapidated holiday camps dont seem ideal festival venues.
but it will be spiritualized's only summer festival appearance.
Apart from Glastonbury
And more
The Concretes, Jazz Jamaica, Polytechnic, Candie Payne, Stephanie Dosen, Nuru Kane, Fujiya & Miyagi, The Strange Death of Liberal England.
Stephanie Dosen
is well worth checking out, saw her a couple of weeks ago supporting Midlake, quite an intriguing voice
low and maps
are both added to the bill.
so thats low, maps, polytechnic, spiritualized, !!!, john cooper clarke....
things are getting very interesting!!
Well, that's a turn up
Sophie Ellis-Bextor added.
Never
saw this coming, but perhaps every festival has to have it's own "Daphne and Celeste moment", although I expect no such nonsense here. More interesting than The Magic Numbers at least, (apologies to The MN's, I just don't care that much any more).
A not unwelcome addition, strangely attractive, as she appears to be made entirely of triangles.
It's really confusing.
