Excellent. Now that other mags have been given their exclusives, Drowned in Sound can tell you the line ups for this year's Carling (AKA New Bands) stage at the Reading/Leeds festivals.

Friday in Reading (August 26) and Saturday in Leeds (27) will be Ladytron, Charlotte Hatherley, Saul Williams, The National, Mando Diao, The Paddingtons, We Are Scientists, The Blood Arm, Cherubs, Two Gallants, The Rogers Sisters and Fell City Girl.

Saturday in Reading (27) and Sunday in Leeds (28) showcases The Go! Team, The Raveonettes, Sleater Kinney, Caesars, Yeti, Dogs, Arctic Monkeys, Mystery Jets, 747’s, Clor and Neon.

Sunday in Reading (28) and Friday in Leeds (26) offers Echo & The Bunnymen, Adam Green, The Dresden Dolls, Engineers, Amusement Parks on Fire, Komakino, Towers Of London, The Rifles, Battle, Every Move A Picture, Young Offenders Institute, Boy Kill Boy and Forward Russia.

Which is a very decent selection, non?

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

A fair point Dom Dom Dom Dom.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Not really a fair point Dom Dom Dom Dom, as it's DiS who gave the stage the 'new bands' alias, not Carling/Mean Fiddler.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

ive been going 5 years, and its always been the carling stage to me.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I was wondering that. I was also wondering where her eyes were. Someone give them her back quick-sharp, or she'll walk into a big puddle.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

The Human-Mole!

Wow, more reasons to get annoyed about not going to Reading :-(

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Jo Sutton who writes for DiS.
She also appears in the new Komakino video, fact fans.

Ladytron and Charlotte Hatherley on Friday night?

Sod the Pixies then.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Man! go team, adam green, amusement parks, mystery jets and saul williams, that has made my week!

Sleater Kinney at the new bands tent? Should be renamed the 'you emo sluts haven't heard of me' tent. The only half decent band to play Reading (along with the Go Team)

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Im suprised Sleater Kinney aren't headlining the Carling Tent on the Saturday.
Im also disapointed that Ladytron are on at the same time as The Pixies, tough decision.
Anyway it's now confirmed that I will be spending most of my time in the new bands tent, as i do every year.

Is that a picture of Zoe Ball ?

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Probably her ugly sister.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

It's the fucking Aphex Twin!

Not going anymore methinks. Haven't missed a Reading since 2000, but T In The Park eats its bollocks, so I'm going north.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I seriously doubt that. I've given TitP a miss every year since 2002, and haven't regretted it.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I immensely enjoyed it last year. Faithless, Massive Attack, Chem Brothers...some great artists who I wouldn't pay for a whole gig for, but excellent in the festival atmosphere.

This year is the same. Reading just doesn't provide anything different. Seeing Snoop at T will be fun for me, the same goes for your James Brown's and your Green Day's etc. Give us some novelty Reading, for X's sake.

I think Sleter Kinny will clash with Arcade Fire. Dilema!

Not that I'm going :-(

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I'm gay for this line-up.

Well on the whole that's a load of bollocks. Saul Williams though! I'm glad i'm going this time. Last year it was

The Shins
Mclusky
Mark Lanegan
Mondo Generator
TV ont radio
Autolux
etc etc etc.

which was class.

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I had to miss Autolux to see the Icarus Line, it was worth it though.

New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

I'm happy. Very happy.

Is that the Aphex Twin in the picture though? Jeez... how unfortunate

Re: New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

rubbish. as more and more bands get announced its still only turbonegro and maiden that i can be arsed with ... sell sell sell! maybe.

New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds

Pfft...I think the Carling Stage is really disappointing this year. Last year's was awesome. Devendra Banhart with his cross-legged ramblings about little animals and teeth.

fortunately for all you beautiful peeps i was far too busy propping up the bar to actually be in the new komakino video despite the fact i was only a few feet away from ryu's stinky feet.
it is important to bear in mind however that where we aphex twins are disadvantaged with mole-sight we more than make up for with the lengths of our fingers......makes sense really, i just neglected to read the small print before i applied *nonchalant shrug* xXx
