Hope Of The States split confirmed
Posted: 31 Aug '06, 13:58
Those 'Hope Of The States are splitting' mumblings - which we reported here - have now been confirmed.
It had been announced after the sextet's sets at Reading and Leeds that the performances would be their last, and now a statement from the band has been released putting any doubts over their future to rest.
The statement reads:
“Following two astonishing performances at the weekend’s Carling Reading / Leeds Festival the band have announced they are splitting and would like to thank all their fans who have supported them over last few years.
"We can walk away at this point as friends and be increasingly proud of what we have done. Thank you to everyone for all your support and the incredible times we have shared with our fans and supporters".
You can read the confirmation on the band's own official site, here.
Left
before they were Dropped
Lol
hahahahhaa
that made me laugh. i am easily amused when hungover i tells you!
...
They were no Coldplay, that's for sure.
:(
:(
A real shame
Sure, there latest offering wasn't up to scratch, but their first album was absolutely fantastic, in my opinion. I saw them live once at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth and it definitely ranks as one of the best gigs I've seen with an excellent performance twinned by great video sequences and lighting. A damn shame.
:(
x100
i saw the leeds festival show
and now feel completely crest fallen. i was really hoping to see them again as their live power was something so much better and more intense than on either record.
Colin Murray
Did anyone see Colin on BBC 3 having a go at the people watching for not buying their album and being responsible for them splitting? I've never heard them, but I thought that was quite funny.
bad craic
these had some ace songs, left is shit though
The first three songs
are brilliant, then it all goes horribly wrong until industry, which is one of their best. The album really isn't as bad as a lot of people are making out. What made them think "Good Fight" was err, good, is beyond me though.
They look like a bunch of past-its
trying to be emo.
wel
it's obvious you havn't heard their music...............
this is a bad thing. and though some people are gonna be like 'meh like it matters'...if you actually listen to their albums you wil realise that they are aAMAZING...and that they WILL be sorely missed...it's a BAD thing....we can only hope that they continue doing wierd side projects like they did before...cos i kinda need their sound in ma life..
:(
to be fair
their debut was one of the best albums ever.
Indeed it was...
just a beautiful beautiful album...
I too after seeing them at Reading really hoped to see them live again, as K_T said they really were just an amazingly powerful live band...
I blame Therapyrock's bad review of Left;)
Well and truly gutted
This is the third band that I rate 10/10 to have split up this year and I'm getting incredibly vexed! They were a fantastic, electrifying live band and both albums are superb. Left was unfairly criticised for dropping their post-rock sound, yet the only songs on The Lost Riots that could be labelled as post-rock were Black Dollar Bills, The Black Amnesias and Me Ves Y Sufres. TLR was chock full of pop songs like Nehemiah, George Washington, Sadness On My Back, Goodhorsehymns, Enemies/Friends and more, yet no one was complaining then. It's bizarre! Anyway I will miss them dearly and will commence to play the triumphant, call to arms brilliance of Nehemiah at top volume as of this very moment...HEAR US SINGING WE SING, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!!!!!
sniff
couldn't agree more
sure, 'left' is a bit of a grower (read not as masterful, but getting there), but the one and only time i saw them at the Joiners in Soton, they were immense beyond words - 'tis a sad day indeed
ehh
while they did 'never realise their potential', they never made a really good album, i wonder if they did have it in them. Lost Riots was good but suffered from being overlong with not enough variety, and Left was astonishingly mediocre. i only saw them live once and they were fairly good. they'll be missed like any band who splits up will be.
I
quite liked the first album but never really got past the fact that the singer has a terrible voice. And to be fair I've never felt compelled to listen to it since it came out. Black Dollar Bills is nice.
Not a huge loss really. Maybe some of them will form a new band with someone who can sing and be AMAZING?
I think his voice...
is great. Definatly a Marmite one tho isn't it. They'll be sorely missed for me. First time i saw them was when they were touring 'The Lost Riots' and that show coupled with the amazing projections backdrop was one of the gigs I will always remember. Caughed the tail of their set at Leeds and ending on 'Enemies/Friends' I thought they were still ace.
Still, I always think lack of commercial success is the worst possible reason for spitting ever!
Yeah but
He was the shittest singer ever.
This split makes me quite sad, actually.
I didn't give a monkey's about 70% of their stuff, but it saddens me that the band who did Black Dollar Bills is no longer around. I fucking love that video, it's so sad *sniff*
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I accidentally slept through their Reading set and will now NEVER see them live!
Shit.
I didn't mind missing them at reading cos i knew i would be seeing them when they play at Jersey Live tomorrow... am gutted now, i could have seen them twice in a week, but now will NEVER see them :(
I do really a like a few songs from Left, but as everyone's saying, The Lost Riots will remembered as a fantastic album.
Darn
They have some proper hardcore fans who have seen the 15 times. I saw them 3 times and I'm proper gutted. I've grown up with Enemies/Friends.
HOTS will be missed!
I'm considering myself fortunate to have seen and met the band during their US jaunt a few yrs back. Left is definitely a grower for me and Lost Riots will be classic forever. To Sam and the boys...you'll be missed!!!
goodbye to artwank
saw live 3 times - overran 3 times - made a big show about how they must be allowed to continue 3 times - crowd largely not interested 3 times.
I must applaude them though - I was genuinely surprised they made a 2nd album, and some of there instrumental parts were not too shabby. Back to the politics degrees then eh lads...
